It has a shatterproof screen guard on the front screen that contains the SONY logo. The sad thing is, that is not scratch proof. It attract scratches very often :(
Yeah, I'd advise people to wait a bit for the price. It's an amazing small device but not for 550 USD that is just crazy for a 6 month old flagship. 450-500 USD max.
AnonD-258086, 09 Jul 2014well that might be true, but i have owned xperia v,z,z2 and shower with it all the time. I am ... moreI am not saying, that this is SONY's fault. The people are just careless with their phones, just because the manufacturer says its water resistant/water proof. I can only say if you treat your phone well, it will be good to you for a long time.
Well it's been in South Africa for a while now. My issue with this phone is that it is quite thick for a high end device. That thickness (thicker than it's siblings) and the large bezels plus the onscreen controls make it's screen appear too small for it's body. The iPhone has large bezels but it's really thin (I know complaining about thickness seems silly, but it makes a difference).

Too late and too expensive...and why campera is so poor if we compare with Nokia PV ? Eh if Lumia 1020 will have Android or MeeGo or Symbian Belle (if they wouldn't stop develop it).
This phone indeed supports US frequency bands. In *#*#4636#*#*, users can change to US mode, but cannot change back to Europe mode.
MaxSmarties, 09 Jul 2014Too late and too expensive for an otherwise good deviceToo xpensive?!?
This is cheap for what you get...and you get it all.
First off all, Z1 belongs to other era. Even Z2 is for sale for a few months in Canada.
Second - no LTE 17 (AT&T) and 12 bands (T-mob from VZN)!?
MaxSmarties, 09 Jul 2014Too late and too expensive for an otherwise good deviceYou Don't even own a compact cell!
Anonymous, 09 Jul 2014You're right. People should be very careful with "water proof/water resistant" units... morewell that might be true, but i have owned xperia v,z,z2 and shower with it all the time. I am a diver and it always get wet when i have it with me on the boat for pictures and have never had any water-damage, but you have to treat the phone ok if you want the water-ressistance to mantaine over time. of course. that the problem i think. not sonys foult.
not compatible with AT&T LTE band 17 (700 Mhz) ?! That's not good.

I like SONY and I am planning to get the Z3 when I comes out, but this is the fact. We are getting many SONYs units for repair with liquid damage. If your phones are still working after all the torture, then you are very lucky.
