kochu, 01 Aug 2014Quality of sony is good, Samsung still made of cheap plastic but they are good in getting upda... moreYou are talking about more descent updates from Samsung, yet I am still the only one to be running 4.4.4 Android on my Xperia Z1 and Xperia Z Ultra along with my 2-3 friends with nexus 4s!! Everyone else with a Samsung smartphone still begs for it, even though it is not even a desirable update over 4.4.3, since it is only a security update! And for the record none of the Samsung devices has even seen 4.4.3. Even their S5 flagship and Note 3 are still on the sam firmware base they launched at, which is 4.4.2. Just for the truth's speak concerning UPDATES!! ;)
Anonymous, 31 Jul 2014sony is poor not even on the top5 phone makers
sony user interface is ugly and limitedI am a sony user,We have custom themes from store, we have
custom camera applications like AR effects from store, we have smooth simple and lite OS with mini apps in our phones, we have 20.7MP cameras even in out mini versions of flagships, and better design luxary look, not cheap plastic. Samsung has the worst UI and worst android OS ever.even a 738MB RAM samsung phone lagging than 256MB unbranded chinese android phone. and SAMSUNG OS is being copied by chinese companies :D but sony OS hard to copy. Samsung wins only in display/screen department.
Quality of sony is good, Samsung still made of cheap plastic but they are good in getting updates comparing to sony.
AnonD-171976, 31 Jul 2014bravo sony, japanese products always great quality (never dip your water-resist phone to water)I ever dive, for sure
these are the three major brands( electronics home appliances, tv's , smartphones etc) in the world
samsung sold 74 millions smartphones
lg sold 14.5 millions smartphones
sony sold 9.4 millions smartphones.
AnonD-85136, 31 Jul 2014Many Samehung's fan boys are jealous with sony's positive resultsSony and Samsung are very different companies, yet they are also very similar when it comes to smartphone sales – yes, you read that correctly. It is no secret that Samsung blows Sony out of the water when it comes to smartphone sales…or just about any other products they sell. However, Samsung could take a clue from the collapse of the once mighty Sony. Samsung, up until a year ago, thought they would never see a decline in sales – they were (and still are) the smartphone king, selling more devices worldwide than any other company. Samsung thought they were invincible, but look how quickly times have changed – their latest flagship, the Galaxy S5, is selling like a mere mortal device, and the latest rumors have them rushing to get the Galaxy Note 4 out the door to compete against the new iPhone 6 model(s) coming out at the same time. We all know what happens when we rush a product to market…will they ever learn.
Some of you may be too young to understand what the name Sony meant in the U.S. and what a big deal it was. The best TVs, audio and electronic equipment were all from Sony – I’m not talking about a $10,000 amplifier type specialty company – but if you were a middle – upper class American, you were proud to have a Sony product in your house. They actually had a distribution chain and that is why it is so frustrating to see them unable to get us a damn smartphone – how hard can it be? For whatever reason, Sony has slowly been dropping off the face of the U.S. – Samsung, LG and Vizio are the TV brands you see the most…what happened to Sony?
Sony just released their first quarter P&Ls that ended June 30, 2014 – overall it isn’t bad. Sales increased 6-percent to $18 billion, and operating income went up…but one place it did not do well was their Xperia line of smartphones. Sales dollars were up 2-percent, however, unit sales declined 2-percent. The worst area was their mid-range Xperia models – they were unable to compete. Sony had expected mid-range devices “to significantly grow mainly in emerging market countries.” That did not happen they say because of “increasingly competitive markets in various areas.” Because of these figures, Sony is carefully reviewing its Mid-Range Plan (MRP) – in it, they cited: “In July Sony began a review of its Mid-Range Plan (“MRP”) for the Mobile Communications business. This process is currently on-going, and Sony will continue to evaluate the financial and other consequences of changes, if any, in the MRP or strategic alternatives within the Mobile Communications business, as well as its financial performance. It is possible that the above-described circumstances might result in an impairment charge against various assets, including goodwill, in that reporting segment.”
Sony’s higher pricing has always made it difficult for them to compete against the likes of Samsung and now the onslaught of cheap phones from China and India – and let us not forget the Moto G and now the Moto E devices, offering up quality and smooth performance for a fraction of what a ‘low cost’ Sony device would run. Hit us up on our Google+ Page and let us know why you think Sony is doing so poorly in their Xperia line of smartphones…as always, we would love to hear from you.
sony sold only 9.4 millions smartphone as of 2q 2014.
bravo sony, japanese products always great quality

Miike Hunt, 31 Jul 2014Sony needs to get off its high horse and realise their reliance on brand to keep prices high j... moreYeah that's why Apple Iphones have decreased in price?
What are you talking about???
Miike Hunt, 31 Jul 2014Sony needs to get off its high horse and realise their reliance on brand to keep prices high j... moreWhat? Since when? My girlfriend only just upgraded her phone to an iPhone 4S (why, who the heck knows) and it costs her £35 a month (unlimited calls, texts and 500MB), and the handset was £50. And there's several updated iPhones above it! Eh? I got my Xperia Z1 free for £29 with unlimted calls, texts and 1GB internet. And you say Apple have realised this?
I agree with you that Sony isn't exactly realising they have to stop charging so high becuse of their name, but for you to say Apple has learnt, no they haven't.
Is Vaio sold yet ? Why is it still in Sony's website , and does anyone recommend a Sony Vaio flip a1x ? I really love it :(
AnonD-152462, 31 Jul 2014My dad has a Sony ZR and he hates it lol. Poor screen and Bad UIOh really? Your dad would be too old to say that! But aren't you ?
Miike Hunt, 31 Jul 2014Sony needs to get off its high horse and realise their reliance on brand to keep prices high j... moreWhat a load of tosh. Apple are the most expensive electronic manufacturer out there! Have their prices decreased? Hell no.
How dare you even compare the two based on prices? What a rediculous comment.
