After failure of OS10 Q5/10 QWERTY phones, BB is releasing their first QWERTY phone with physical keys. This will be surely costlier than Passport.
AnonD-179946, 27 Aug 2014IF it is sols for R400- R440 on contract then I'm in... Cant wait as well BafwethuIt'll be in S.A much later than the rest of the world, we always have had a technological delay with newly released devices same with the new Samsungs and iPhones however I'd estimate it to be at around R500+ upon release on a deprived tarriff like 100mins 100 text 250mb data
AnonD-294879, 27 Aug 2014The detail is that the Passport is a flagship phone, the Classic is not. Moreover, the price c... moreThe price is $760 US dollar or CZK16,000
Unless the phone is subsidised by a network or sold e by Blackberry for $600 in the US (grey market make more sense to BUY from US) then it is not going to be sold at $600
GSMARENA have cited a souce for the price
"Dostupnost a cena" is stated as 16000, NOT 12590 CZK which is what $600 converts to
IMO it is seriously overpriced (above the price of the S5 on Amazon.com) and heavy much heavier than the Z30
As already mentioned it is an upgrade on the Z30 but in adding the keyboard to the Z30 they have "squarified" it and the width precludes one hand use
You will get used to the weight.
I got the K zoom, and it's 200 grams. And it's quite big as well, but in thickness that is. At first I felt like the weight was a problem. The size was quite easy to live with, except for a few trousers with really shallow pockets, but those are shallow even for a phone like the S5.
But now after havint the phone for a while, I don't think much about the weight any more. + really todays phones are best with headsets, so you can freely operate them with two hands, even when on a call.
I can't speak for the width of this device however. But seeing how I could fit a 10,7 cm tall phone sideways in my pocket, i dont think that will be a huge problem for most, not optimal but probably worth it for those interested in a device like this.
The detail is that the Passport is a flagship phone, the Classic is not. Moreover, the price conversion to US dollars is likely to not be representative of the usual prices for devices in the US. Expect the Passport to cost around $600 to $699 unlocked in America. The Classic much lower, probably around $400-$549. If you're price sensitive, you can buy the Z3 at around $250 unlocked, or if you're not, you could get the Porsche-designed P'9983 for more than $2000. Your choice.

Annaa, 27 Aug 2014If BB Passport's cost is $760 then what will BB Classic cost? $1000-$1200? BB had gone insane ... moreNope, BlackBerry Classic will be priced about 12000 CZK ($600) in Czech republic, so in the US or so about $400
i wouldn't mind switching to blackberry for this baby.
If BB Passport's cost is $760 then what will BB Classic cost? $1000-$1200? BB had gone insane once again. Seems they had not learnt anything from Z10 failure. Better to wait for 6 months & purchase after write off/price cut at half the price.
Alex, 27 Aug 2014Looking forward to the release of this phone here in the Philippines! I really hope BlackBe... moreSound good and for sure, expensive like iPhone. Forget about Samsung because it is cheap mid-range phone even they called flagship.
bb, one of a few companies who strive to be different and not do whats usual to everyone, the passport is sooo business like bold. cant wait for it to land in south africa
It's actually kind of a compelling design to me. Square screen funnily is liberating, given that you are freed from turning the screen sideways. The keyboard looks great too.
It may not be for everyone, but Blackberry fans, and fans of smartphones with keyboards will probably enjoy using the Passport.
Now here is a BB smartphone which makes me forget android. perfect innovation . good processor. camera at it best . big screen. huge battery . new keyboard . looks like build to last .awaiting bb
Love BlackBerry and the Passport is an innovative, refreshing design for those of us who actually use it to work but I reckon it's just too big, too wide and too heavy.
I don't think the weight is a problem.. I never felt the weight of the Lumia 920 was a problem.
It is pricey - to be expected, unfortunately. I wonder if they'll release a cut-down version of the Passport like they did with the Q and Z series.
It should've launched earlier.
