Lex79, 05 Sep 2014Yeah this is confusing to say the least.
If gpu patents are being infringed, how is it that... moreI read the statement made by NVIDIA and IMO this is a 'reclassification' as the Galaxy Range has been around since 2010"
So phones are primarily phones which now have increasing gaming capabilities and mire games available this would have been a problem in 2010 for Samsung
It is the GPU so the gaming which no doubt in a console would attract a level of fees
Samsung are sourced by a NVIDIA licensed Qualcomm who supplied for years a product to Samsung
NVIDIA appear to say this is how it is being used so a "Gaming" fee is now being demanded
Samsung must have a contract with Qualcomm and I believe BOTH Qualcomm and Samsung are in compliance
Why is Samsung being sued, it would be suicidal to go up against Apple, and Samsung with it 'copying" convictions and the largest company is seen as the best to enforce the revised/ interpretation of this.
I doubt that any other phone company have had any action taken against them by NVIDIA, but this is my best guess as it is the use of a GPU in a device not primarily used for gaming but us increasingly being used so
Again my view is in order for NVIDIA to win is that it Samsung knowingly used a Qualcomm product that it knew breached NVIDIA patents
NVIDIA are not stating that Samsung are using the GPU,ILLEGALLY but the fee NVIDIA expects for it use, so NVIDIA are asking for more as when it was licensed, phone use gas changed and gotten larger
This S*&^%$*()g never have their own intellectual electrical knowledge..
Software from Google
CPU from ARM cortex
GPU from Qualcomm adreno
Just like other china brand...
It seems like Sammy is being sued from multiple angles.
I guess next IBM & Microsoft will file law suit against Sammy.
Their workin people are galaxy plastic mindset..(copy..built..sell)...
To the people that just wanna fight Samsung for no reason, you do realise that Samsung buys these GPU's right? The didn't build them
I used to support in the past Samsung as they were innovative company and they wonted to do something. Now I am sure that half of they products are just copy/paste from other companies! They are just slightly better from Chinese companies!
AnonD-255443, 05 Sep 2014The issue is, Samsung doesn't make those GPUs. They buy them. The maker should be liable, not ... moreWhy other manufacturers didn't get into problems? Because they might have paid the patent fees. Why only Samsung and Qualcomm specifically why not only Qualcomm? Because they both might have not paid the patent fees :)
To all those who are complaining why not other OEMs who uses Nvidia's patents? It's simple. They already have paid patent fees ;) This is not some a child fight or child bias that I like this teacher not that or I hate this one not that. This is co-operate world. There are ground reasons behind doing something like that while millions of dollars are revolving behind you. Its not that Nvidia sued other manufacturers. They have done researches or check out their books and probably found out who's giving them patent fees and who is not. Might as well there would be agreements between other manufacturers excluding Samsung and Qualcomm. Use brains people :)
Smuti, 05 Sep 2014Because Samsung is the biggest it's easiest to milk the biggest cow. I don't see how it's sams... moreFanboys logic, if some other rival company sues you for its own creations and innovations being used without legal procedures, that company becomes a patent troll.
There are two faces of every story. The other OEMs probably have paid the patent fee to Nvidia. Might be just Qualcomm and Samsung not paying the fee. There is something called brains...
The issue is, Samsung doesn't make those GPUs. They buy them. The maker should be liable, not the buyer (or else every phone owner, like you and I, are liable). Samsung didn't violate the patent.
If they did, then so did Apple, Nokia, HTC, LG, etc...they all use off the shelf GPUs purchased from vendors using the tech listed as offending - Adreno, Mali and PowerVR.
Anonymous, 05 Sep 2014If you read it's not Samsung. The patents are with gpu venders. Ones all major phones are using. If you sense it correctly, you'll realize Samsung can do some modifications. Keep in mind that Samsung didn't pay the patent fees. That is why it's being dragged. This might be the case where all the other OEMs have paid patent fees to Nvidia.
Anonymous, 05 Sep 2014Samsung .... please stop using other people "intellectual property" for free. Yo... moreyour first line makes sense but then you become a troll/hater/noob... none of the gpus are samsung's design specifically so you should not be a noob commenting like that... they use mali which is arm design and not samsung's own...
please stop using other people "intellectual property" for free.
Your chipset engineers are crap......what a shame....the arm Mali are crap..
built your own architecture....
AnonD-13148, 05 Sep 2014Again, I didn't say it.Again. Yes you did. That is exactly what is directly implied by what you said.
Either you said it or you don't know how to write a simple sentence. Either way the error lies within your writing, not mine.
Nvidia is just like Samsung
Apple was first. And then came Samsung. and then Samsung files a lawsuit for "copying" their ideas(if not, they sue apple for something unreasonable)
Every one trys to beat SAM, World's largest mobile phone maker.. what is the reason.. Because they're out of us..
