Wow. 20mp OIS Camera and hopefully waterproof..At least that's according to the latest information being reported by the Korean website ETNews. They spoke to a member of LG's development team who said that "the future is waterproof and dustproof".

OIS is cool, but 20 MP is dumb. 8 or 10 is fine for a phone.

What really matters is the actual physical size of the sensor. Adding more pixels to a sensor of the same physical size does not capture more light and make for better images. In fact, it usually increases noise.

If this is just another 1/3 sensor, like everything else out there, it will be mediocre like everything else out there.

There are only a handful of phones that have larger sensors. This is what people don't get about the Nokia 1020 and 808. People think it's about the 40 MP sensor and wrong critique if for engaging in the MP race. But what makes those phones so great is their enormous 1/1.5 and 1/1.2 (respectively) sensors. Five times bigger than a 1/3 sensor.

Take a look at this camparison image and see how tiny a 1/3 sensor is, compared to the 1/1.2 sensor in the 808: http://www.dpreview.com/articles/9716437399/nokia-808-pureview-with-41mp-sensor

Failure to understand the sensor size issue is why people don't get that all these new "more megapixel" phones are no better than what came before them. Even the five year old Nokia N86 has a 1/2.5 sensor that's larger than every sensor out there, except in the Galaxy S5. Phone cameras have basically just been stagnating for years (with a couple of Nokia phones been the only realy advances).

Copied tech from Sony and making it better or worse is not something to brag about. LG su...s anyway.
They needed almost 2 years, to improve Exmor RS 20.7mpx sensor.

Anonymous, 15 Oct 2014Who cares about nokia phones?! Millions of people. It just happens to be a much smaller number than, say, people who follow Samsung or Apple.

Anonymous, 15 Oct 2014It just proves that LG is one step behind.Behind in what? Megapixels means shit. Light sensitivity and optical stabilization means everything.

Sony will use their brand new, much larger 22mp 2/3" curved sensor(IMX271SMK)in next years flagship hence why LG are now getting this older sensor next year. Sony are leaving this behind and letting other brands use it as it has run it's time within the Xperia brand. Expect the new curved seonsor to be a Sony exclusive for some time untill they allow anyone else to use it in their own smartphones.

AnonD-215925, 15 Oct 2014LG is good brand but they don`t even think about future, they want to make better then Note 4 ... moreSamsung is still on 16mpx, so in theory they will catch up by making a better stabilized more pixel having sensor on the S6, but after the S6 LG will release the G4 and it will have an even more perfected optical sensor than they are barging about now. Unless they will find it hard to push more pixels to the phones screen having the same size next year. I personally wouldn't buy a device above 5,5"(~0,2"), since it would be even harder to fit it in my front pocket.
