One of the best Nokia phones I've seen. Look at it like this: you want a camera? If it had a VGA camera, you'd want at least 1,3 MP. If it had 1,3 MP you'd wish it had at least 2 MP. If it had 5 MP you'd say it's just another 5 MP phone. No camera - no inferiority complexes.
A dust-resistant keypad? See, it's for communicating. On the slider phones the keypads are almost optional. If you want to listen to music or watch videos, get an appropriate device. For some of us 100 kB of internet equals one dollar. Forget 3G. It's been said that Nokia makes either creaky phones in sturdy casings or the sturdy phones in creaky casings. This is one of the former.
Most of the common users are stuck behind in the WAP era anyway and buy feature phones just for show and never use the actual features. This is a phone.
And it doesn't cost a fortune. Still, not as good and functional as a Motorola for the same price :-P

Why do you insist on buying this phone only. This is not the only phone that nokia makes. You can find the features that you are looking for in other phones. May be you are one of the barbarians you mentioned who cannot afford anything better.So wants to have all the features but have only money for the cheapest

So rude, its not a bad phone especially for others that can't afford "THE BEST" phones out there... the market here are people who wants to have easy communication and less expense... =(

Come on, what do you guys know about Nokia? The Nokia 1xxx series are known as the Ultrabasic series. They are created to have the most basic functions a mobile phone should have. It is FOR THOSE PEOPLE WHO DON'T REQUIRE A MOBILE PHONE WITH SO MANY COMPLICATED FUNCTIONS.
Every phones created for the market suits different need of different people, they have a purpose. If you don't know anything, please keep your mouth shut, don't post any stupid nonsensical comments.

that are the reasons indeed! The hi/tech phones intimidate a few. haha. Well funny. but true sometimes. In my opinion, this kinda phones will be always made for children, elderly people, or maybe young people who dont like hi tech. Pretty basic and nice. Cool

Yup... not all people really want and/or need phones that have all those hi-tech features. Some people are actually intimidated and/or put-off by all these. I like this phone a lot especially its torch feature -- thus making it a very practical phone.
I would just like to say though that I hope nokia makes phones with these specs but with a bigger colored screen and bigger keypads like the 3110. People, for example my dad, does not need cameras, etc. but a larger screen is a must because his eyesight is not that great. From the looks of it this has a small screen.

Hello all! I don't know why i even bother, maybe it's because it's a friday and i'm just waiting for my sallary cheque. Anyway, to answer why nokia still makes this kind of phones, let me give you some reasons why...
1. It's for the low end market
2. It's for those small to medium size companies to give out to their agents, employees
3. It's for kids that are going to use a cell phone for the first time
4. For elderly people who just wants a phone to talk
5. Back up phone or to be use for your seondary line
6. For consollation prizes
7. Emergency phone that is left inside the house.
8. For those who lost their phone and still saving for a high end unit.
9. To lend to your guest who came abroad.
10. For simplicity and practicallity....and alot more!
So for those wondering why...hopefully, you guys will grow old and get wiser and to be more open minded.

ugly phone! lack of many features and Nokia should have created atleast bluetooth or camera for this phone! a new phone but lack of many features which is soooo ugly! and the design looks like the old models of Nokia

what's got to love about this phone! are you kidding me this phone is ugly! it lacks of many features including bluetooth, camera, Wifi, 3g etc. OLD PHONE! and whats the year today why create a old phone! Nokia should have atleast created a bluetooth or camera for this phone!

I LOVE this phone - it's one of the best looking handsets I've ever seen. I have been using a 8800 Sirocco which doesn't even compare to this little beauty.
As soon as this phone became available I sold my 8800 and got 3 1209's!!
As soon as I held the 1209 I knew it was a quality phone, the screen is colour and the buttons can be pressed - the technology is amazing. I have managed to hook up a 5mp camera to it with tape and bluetack and the picture quality is amazing.
The mp3 player is fantastic, tremendous sound quality, it only took about 3 minutes to actually fix my ipod to the nokia.
This is by far the most advanced and beautiful handset ever made--Nokia keep up the good work
