When I read a message or type a message, the screen goes into dim mode quickly. How do I set it up to stay a bit longer so I can read and do something
I have another clue on why some people might be having problems using a data cable with the 1680c. Earlier I had one cable go bad on me after it had previously worked for me, and a second one that I bought later worked perfectly, so just now I bought another cable (exactly the same type) to have as a spare. It turns out that the newest cable does not work, so now I have one good cable and one bad cable of exactly the same type. Looking closely inside the "phone-end" plugs of the two cables, I could see on the bad cable that the two center pins were pushed in, so that they appeared to be about 2-3 mm shorter than the two outer pins. On the good cable, all four pins are about the same length (equal length to within 1/2 mm of each other or better). The plastic casing of the plug has four tiny clips that hold it shut, so I carefully pried the four clips out on the bad cable and popped the case open. Inside, I saw that the center two pins were indeed pushed back too far inside the plug, and a third wire (which connects to the outer two pins) was completely broken off from its solder connection. The conclusion: The tiny plug that connects to the phone is very fragile or cheaply made in many of these cables, and it's possible that many of the people having trouble could simply have a broken plug on their cables.

So perhaps CA-50 is the correct cable and they simply posted the wrong picture with the auctions.

By the way, the CA-50 cable appears to have the wrong plug for the 1680c, from pictures I've seen on eBay, so you might want to check and make sure the plug fits your phone.
my mrs has the 1680 classic. she bought a nok2630 cable that came with the drivers for usb's of ebay. i d/l latest version of pc nokia suite then fiddled around with the sodding thing for hours, plugging and unplugging the phone, installing, uninstalling then restarting the pc.It took a lot of fiddling around but got there eventually + i'm in the Mrs's good books now, so bonus

They ask to choose from available phone models and 1680 is not among them. I have 1680c-2b and I just got my CA-50 Connectivity Adapter Cable from Hong Kong.
I find the phone as a basic emergency phone to contact mum after school lol
dont go for it baby(people)...bad phone as having no connectivity optns.
An update on my experiences with 1680c data cables, for those who may be interested... As mentioned earlier, my original data cable bought from a Hong Kong seller suddenly stopped working, for unknown reasons. Afterward, I lost the cable (still don't know where it is), so I bought a new "MYBAT" brand data cable from an eBay seller named "dabbledeal" located in the USA. It uses exactly the same driver as my original Hong Kong cable. Good news--right now, the new MYBAT cable is working for me! I just used PC Suite and transferred all my contacts into my 1680c-2b phone through the cable. I'm still not sure why my original data cable stopped working but can only assume it was a defect or random failure of the electronics inside the cable. For now, everything seems to be working fine with the new "MYBAT" data cable, and I'm a happy Nokia 1680c owner once again.
