Mark K, 06 May 2009There is a lot of misinformation on the web stating (incorrectly) that a PC data cable cannot ... moreHi, I just got the NOkia 1680 and am having tons of trouble finding the data cable. I ordered one off a website, they claimed it was the right one and it is wrong. I even looked on Nokia's own web site and could not find it. I then called Nokia and their customer service people told me there is no data cable available for this phone. Can you please tell me where you purchased your cable and also what the model number is? Thanks, my email adress is kkristan@acosta.com
This is the best phone I ever have. User friendly, very handy, solid, without those billion useless options. Thanks God, somebody still makes phone like this.
There is a lot of misinformation on the web stating (incorrectly) that a PC data cable cannot be used with this phone, so I'm writing to confirm that I followed the instructions in Mitja Kukovec's April 2 message and was able to use my PC data cable to transfer files in and out of my Nokia 1680c-2b, using Nokia PC Suite version 7.1.26.0, downloaded from europe.nokia.com/pcsuite (running on Windows XP). I purchased the cable on eBay from a seller in Hong Kong for around $7 including shipping, and I installed the driver from the CD that came with it.
After driver installation and plugging the cable into a USB port, it showed up in the Windows device manager (under "Ports") as a "Prolific USB-to-Serial Comm Port (COM5)." After installing PC Suite, I closed the "Get Connected wizard," opened the PC Suite program and selected Settings, Manage Connections, double-clicked on "Serial Cable (CA-42)" and changed its setting to COM5. After a short pause, a balloon popped up from the PC Suite tray icon with the message "Nokia 1680c-2b connected via serial cable." I was then able to use the file manager in PC Suite to browse and transfer files in the phone's memory, and it worked perfectly for me. I hope this information is helpful to people who are having difficulty using a data cable.
