My advice to you is to stay to nokia(in my opinion is the best brand + you can find lots of free apps etc)I've tried Samsung,Panasonic,Motorola,Sagem,Sony Ericssonand I got to the conclusion that Nokia RULES!
I bought N3230 after I had read quite a few bad opinions about it because I really like it very much,it got almost all the features I want. But I was really disappointed and returned it the second day after i bought it.I cannot even make a call because the key pad is totally not function well.I am wondering is it because I am the bad luck one to get this one or most of this model got the same problems.I'm now looking at Panasonic X800,but still prefer N3230's features if it can function well.Any advises?

I dont care wat u people say to this ph,I've
been using this phone for 5 months and Im
VERY SATISFIED wit tis ph.Im PROUD wit it!its

nice design but why do't nokia ever give all in 1 phone.the mp3 is horrible to say the least.the phone also freezes a lot the display even fails to show anything at times, sound but no visuals...funny,anybody seen something like this?
people like everyone even i was disappointed with the quality of mp3 and the slowness of the phione and the constant freezing but now therz a solution to all the problems... just get the latest firmware upgrade 4.0526.2 and all the glitches in this phone are solved... it vibrates for messages in the vibration mode ( which it didnt earlier), get the viking mp3 player 3.5 and the mp3 quality becomes as good as any other phone even from the loudspeaker, the phone's become 10 time faster and has never frozen since the upgrade... so all 3230 users can enjoy coz its the best phone till now with all the features...
48channel is only for midi. If u play a midi file, a total of 48 kind of whatever instrument sound can be played at the same time. Like Mihai said, that's solely for midi. mp3 got nothing to do with 48 channel figure. However, there's really no point putting a 256kb/s mp3 in ur phone. As a matter of fact u will find little difference when playing a 64kb/s @ 22khz mp3 compare to a 128kb/s @ 44khz mp3. Reason being the phone speaker range is only up to 16khz (from what I heard). Therefore anything more than is kind of like wasting ur bandwidth. But if u don't mind using up some space on ur phone, 128kb/s @ 44khz is ok. Definately 256kb/s is no point. That's for playing on a HiFi system!
Nowadays I normally sample my mp3 to 64kb/s @ 22khz mono. And even with these settings, they can sound very nice in phones like SE and motorola. (What can I say, I thought putting down the bit rate and sampling frequency will make my friends' phone sound not as good. But I was wrong. Which means we can probably go at lower bitrate and we r still sort of wasting our bandwidth!??)
By the way,I have the same question as Mo, will this phone have stereo sound after software upgrading? And is it clear, strong etc?
48 channel is for midi sounds.I suppose you're reffering to songs as mp3s,therefore 48 channels have nothing to do with mp3 playback.Although I doubt that you'll notice any differences between 64 and 128kb/s if you play 'em on the phone.
Is true that this phone has 48 channels and there not will be difference if I put an 64 kb/s song or 256 kb/s.
My friend tell me this....he tell me that there is not difference between 64kb/s song and 128 or high on 3230 becouse my phone have just 48 channels. is so? pls hel me. becouse I put in my phone just songs with 256kb/s to have a clear sound... :) .... this songs take 3x much memory than a song with 64kb/s. HELP ME PLS!!
can anyone help me i want to find out about this phone because my old phone is broken and i decided to bye this phone i need some ones opinion because i will bye a phone on friday
So Just one question, if i do get the latest firmware will i be able to play mp3s in stero?
yes a great phone indeed with so many features though will be experienced when software upgraded to the new version.
cant wait for the n70 which also is full packed of features
It's good mobile! My best bought.
And i have question: where i can get some applications or can i'll do it my self for my hobby with camera operations?
According to telco, firmware upgrade will be available in NZ in a month. My question: does the upgrade fix the problem of 'fat' photos on the 3230? If not, I may trade the phone in instead.
I have the 3230 since only two days yet, but i have already an opinion. This phone is amongs the slowest s60 phones that i know, YET it also is one of the best looking ones! The camera isreally good, it is a breeze to use the file transfer via cable (bluetooth on the PC sometimes refuses to detect the phone) and most of the 3rd party software is compatible (as opposed to the N70 which is a million percent faster, but runs almost none of the usual softwares).
After using GPRS, the phone slows down to a crawl but a reboot will "fix" this. I use a almost completely full 1 Gigabyte MMC so that might be the reason (i have 300 songs and several full-length movies on it).
Mine has the old firmware still (3.0505.2) so i too suffer from the rather bad and weak mp3 sound, but a firmware upgrade will most likely solve it - if Nokia ever gets this upgrade all the way to Thailand, which can take AGES.
I can recommend the 3230 for normal users who seek a phone with excellent reception, good voice quality (which it has! very loud and clear) and beautiful looks. I will NOT recommend it for power users or gamers - it really lacks performance.
