Hey guys I am really considering of buying this phone in 2 days and my only question is:
Is there really anything bad about the Nokia 3230 which can't be fixed with future firmware updates or Symbian-related software?
Some might say the mp3 player but I have heard it on my cousin's 6260 and I really don't care! It sounded fine to me. Also, this is probably the only problem that bugged me apart from class 5 EDGE, is that only the back cover can come off. Although this can be solved with a leather cover, which is most likely if I buy this phone, I have a phone (Alcatel ot 735) that's front cover can't come so I know how much of a pain it is.
So apart from that, are there any MAJOR problems that would/should hinder me from buying this mass market phone at a price of $679 AUD?
The question, or a similar one in context, of whether anyone knows if Nokia is planning a version upgrade has been asked before and there're no direct answers. Irrelevant to pose the question again. However, as to all other Nokia models, a firmware upgrade should be looming in the horizon, its a matter of 'w-h-e-n'.
You can upgrade your Nokia 3230 (or 'reflash' is the word) at home if you have the necessary tools but should the equipment fails to be reflashed properly, please be aware that your warranty will be totally void and you may have to incur even more charges/penalties besides the usual labour cost.
Nokia Care Centres are available for your patronage anytime, especially so during the equipment's 1-year warranty grace period. Visit and have the equipment upgraded by professionals.
You may want to wait a few more months before purchasing the Nokia 3230, by then, a new firmware would have been installed. Or, follow the reviews here closely; should anyone post a review with regards to a new firmware in the phone, then you can consider buying the Nokia 3230, with bugs of the first version tweaked. Bugs may still be however present in subsequent versions.
Hi, It seems 3230 has bugs with the present firmware or software. Does anyone know whether Nokia is planning to fix them or if I buy 3230 now will I be able to upgrade the fiemware at home when it gets released? Because I really like the phone's looks & camera quality seems to be great. --ishtiaque
to solve the memory problem (storing the message at memory card) u need to install
MsvDriveE.sis it will auto. stor the messages to the MMC
Nokia has to launch different kinds of phones to cater to the different segmentations of the consumer market. Different market in different regions require specific phones for specific situations/environments/circumstances. While it may look like a TV remote controller to some, at least, it is a good start for parents to get their young kids to use a simple mobile phone. As they grow up, they can progress to better phones with cameras or 3G capabilities. When they've found their identity at an older age, they might want to use Nokia fashion phones or business phones.
Every phone that Nokia churns out serves a different demographic profile. So while most of you may be quick to shoot down this model, you're just making a mockery of your education and intellectual capabilities. Put some thought into why some stuff are designed that way and yet still well-received by a percentage in the market, cause they need it. If its clear that there'll be no take-up for this model, it won't be launched in the first place.
I dunno what's the problem between you and Dan-Andrew but the phone does vibrate when the Silent mode is activated. Only prob encountered is all incoming sms are 'quietly sent', no sound, no vibration.
So, what i've done was to follow the previous post where it instructed to use another profile and personalise it as you would for a Silent profile and it works on my 3230.
No vibration during incoming sms while phone on Silent Profile:
Strange bug but what I've done to temporary troubleshoot this bug is this:
Use another profile. Eg: Rename ur Meeting as Sshh...or Silence or whatever and set your message tone to 'beep twice' or beep'...turn on your vibration and send a test-sms using another mobile line. Viola! *beep beep* and *vibrato*.
Something's wrong with the original "Silent" profile or its meant to be that way? Whatever it is, should you really in desperate need of the phone to vibrate during quiet moments, do what I've detailed in the previous paragraph.
To users of 3230
In your Rally Pro game, do you have sound coming out from your set? Mine doesn't, strange. For Agent V and the other Space Trooper game, it works perfectly well.
1 more bug or how shall i put it..an irritatin thing with the 3230..
I tried tranferin a 4.7 mb MP3 file from the 6230 to it, But the process stalled sayin that there was insufficient Memory..
Inference the Mobile takes only files as big as the phone memory even though there is lot of free space on the MMC...& the mobile has a paltry 6 MB of phone memory...
Hi Dan-Andrew...Thanks for calling me little stupid..
And hey.. you are extremely diligent to say that it vibrates in silent..Dont make a bigger fool of yourself on the net..
If u want Symbian, Stereo MP3,Powerpoint viewer,1.3 MP Camera,Expandable Memory,Good Browsing Speeds..
THEN there is a mobile which is goin to be released soon & it is called the Nokia 6681..
Only think lackin i feel are FM Radio & IR, But i think there can only be 1 reason for their absence, It takes a hell of a lot time if u use IR to transfer data[ even a single photo taken with Megapixel resolution takes time, but is a breeze with Bluetooth, especially if it is Bluetooth v1.2, which is faster than v 1.1, which is what exactly the 6681 has] & comin to the FM Radio, U ALWAYS require the headset to listen to it as the headset acts as the Antenna & Nokia have the HS-2R headset available as an acessory which can used for the FM Radio..SO...THINK ABOUT IT..
Guys DO u have this problem also. Whenever i receive any Pic or Mp3 from my frend through bluetooth or infra. I cant save into my phone and memory card. It only show saving screen, but the bar dun seen like running, and stuck there, SO YOU GUYS HAV Encounter THis Problem???
Alternatively, if you want a powerpoint viewer, consider O2 mini or other PDA brands with mobile -call functions.
7710 has what you've mentioned and if you're agreeable to the size, by all means, get it. MP3 quality playback of 3230 is the same as 7610.
So, there's nothing to be confused, just set your direction and your wants straight.
One cant have the best of everything. Do you want a big screen phone? If so, 6230 is eliminated. Do you want stereo MP3 and FM radio? Then 6630 and 3230 are eliminated. Do you want a symbian-software phone? 6230 is eliminated.
My advice is to wait for the 6230i. 7710 is too big for your pockets and you might start complaining.
guys help me on this one which fone i should go for i need a stereo mp3 player a megapix camera symbian os word powerpoint viwers which nokia i should go for 6230,6630,3230.7710 please help i am really really confused. by the way what is the quality of sound of mp3s on 3230 is it better than 7610.
this phone is good at a low price but it is discouraging becasue of its bugs and other features like the 3x zoom? im not contented. it is for the masses but it disappoints the mass with the software problems.huh!
If you're using RealPlayer as your video playback, its not fullscreen. However, you can install other 3rd-party video/cam recording programs for fullscreen feature.
Quality is comparable to other Nokia symbian handphones of 65k TFT colour screens. Pixelated as usual but good enough to capture those moments.
To those with Photo Editor of a different language:
Not to worry, click the Nokia Asia Pacific website at http://www.nokia-asia.com/nokia/0,,71792.html and download the local version. Remember to use 'Manager' in your phone under 'Tools' to remove the previous version of the Photo Editor.
You may also want to know that you can use some of the applications that are posted on websites of other Nokia models (eg 6600, 6260, 7610, 6630, 6800, etc) and install them onto your Nokia 3230. Most of the applications work in my 3230.
