I had the Google Nexus 5 which spoilt me rotten. I could not adjust to any other phone after that and was extremely unhappy with the other phones. I wanted a stock Android phone and the motorola phones came the closest but the g5 for example had a heating issue. I waited for months for the Nokia 5 purely for the stock android experience. So far the Nokia 5 is the closest I have come to my Google Nexus which in my mind is a great phone.
I have no complaints with the phone. The heating issue is only while charging and I think that is because of fast charging. Even though I wasn't aware whether it came with that feature or not it seems to be because the phone charges really fast. 16 GB memory seems less but so far due to the stock android experience, I haven't had any issues. Same for speed. Everything runs smoothly. I think it's not about the specs but optimisation and this phone optimises what it has well. Battery lasts for 2 days with moderate use and a little over a day with intensive use. The only complaint I have is the size. I wish all phones these days came in the nexus 5 size. That would have made this phone perfect. But otherwise no complaints.
Nokia 5 has worse camera even j5 prime has better in camera .. bettery is about average... it uses alot of data in background... Voice quality is best in this price range... software optimization is good ... wifi speed is about average... it doesn't have gallery and file manager ... video recording is very good also stabilization.. build quality is very good...
bibinJohn, 26 Aug 2017hello,
Nokia 5 upto me is good decent performer. many people complaint about ram showing less... moreHi... I have put few comments about the RAM in Nokia 5. Even though device shows low amount of RAM it works smoothly as you said. Even when I am running about 5 apps at the same time. I never complained about the phone lag or anything. This works really fine for me. I think Nokia 5 manages the RAM well somehow...
So cheers..... :-)
Darvaish, 25 Aug 2017Overall satisfied. Good build quality. On software side, there's room for improvement. Hopeful... moreAbout earlier comment on not able to transfer apps to SD card, problem was with my own configuration of card. Have to actually set up card as Internal storage to work. Nokia 5, a fantastic device.
Nokia 5 upto me is good decent performer. many people complaint about ram showing less. what i can say is that my phone never gets hanged or slow. i was using a lenovo 3gb ram phone before and whenever the remainig space was below 1gb my phone got hanged. and i have no issues with playstore or any other thing. i guess those are all fake comments and i would like to see the genuity behind them. what nokia gives me is the update to latest android in the market which i find no one else can promise me. the design is also top notch and multitasking goes smoothly. i have no issues with nokia 5 . this is a good mid range phone. nokia promises you to be with the trend.
I bought Nokia 5, this device is really rubbish...problem with my device I can't open any app except just few app....there is issue when open any app that can't open.
Calculated has stopped, play store has stopped even almost every app has stopped not running apps

And plz tell me how can fix this
pinky, 25 Aug 2017Kindly tell me what about is RAM ??? is it a SLOW phone and it does not have PLAYSTORE either???It has 2GB RAM. I don't have lot of apps installed. but still only 400MB Ram left. So i guess the OS takes much of the RAM to run its processes. But its not a slow phone for me. Mine has works smoothly so far (I am not a heavy user though). It has Google play store......... :)

AceShot, 25 Aug 2017Thank you i saw your ram comment. I have a phone Allview P9 Energy lite and i have something l... moreYa. That's true. It's a really low amount of RAM. I am confused about what's going on with the RAM on Nokia 5. Because it feels like actually the OS is the one who eats most of the RAM.
But the thing is I have been using Google chrome and YouTube at the same time with also whatsapp and viber running. All worked really well and smoothly.
I am not a heavy gamer or even a heavy user. So Nokia 5 with 2 GB RAM is more than enough for me. But I am no expert on these things so heavy users should get some expert opinions about the device before buy it... :-)
Bugzy, 25 Aug 2017Hi... I think there is only one version of Nokia 5 and it's a global version. But Nokia 6 has ... moreThank you i saw your ram comment. I have a phone Allview P9 Energy lite and i have something like 70 apps installed or more - most of them games. And when i restart my phone i have always exactly same amount of free ram as i started it from first time. That's is 1.85GB free out of 3GB.
You said you have around 500 MB left after updates and installed apps whichi is ridicolous low for a phone claiming to have Clean Android....and probably kills all your background opened aps if you multitask - browser, youtube some apps etc.
Hassan Mahmoud, 23 Aug 2017Please Help me Nokia 5 or xiaomi redmi 4My opinion. Nokia 5... Just bought one yesterday, and it has been great so far
Shan, 25 Aug 2017Can any pls tell us where is gallery options , theme change option. If we go Android it's ask ... moreHi.... There is no theme changing option in nokia 5 as far as I know.... In my device I still didn't find anything like that and I am not worried about it either....
Also there was no inbuilt gallery app or even file manager when I bought the device. So I guess it's the way HMD gave us the phone. They are giving stock Android with very little features added and we are allowed to customize it anyway we want using Google play store . Thats the way I see it.... :-)
Anonymous, 23 Aug 2017Nokia 5 or galaxy j7 nxt.. and why? J7 nxt chipset is not good. Battery hungry and heating issue.
AceShot, 24 Aug 2017Guys what are differences and how to notice and tell which is chinese and which is europena ve... moreHi... I think there is only one version of Nokia 5 and it's a global version. But Nokia 6 has few versions including Chinese and European. First I was thinking of buying Nokia 6 so I did some reading on the internet. What I found is that in Chinese version there is no Google play and the os has customized to Chinese government policies. But recently I somewhere read that HMD has made Google play available for even Nokia 6 Chinese version with an update.
But before that there were some Nokia 6 Chinese version devices with Google play and apparently those are the ones with flashed Rom installed another ROM.. HMD has said there is a big possibility those devices will not get any future updates via official Nokia channels. That's for Nokia 6 and I think same goes for the Nokia 5. My Nokia 5 is the TA-1053 version. I bought this about 3 week's ago and I got 3 updates. Last one is August security patch.
I have posted a comment here before about the RAM usage of the device after I bought the phone. If you can find it maybe it's useful.it's under the same id Bugzy.
I don't know if this is helpful or not. Sorry if it's not.... :-)
Overall satisfied. Good build quality. On software side, there's room for improvement. Hopefully, Nokia can consider these for future updates:
. Noticed significant battery drain and heatup using Google maps navigation over long period (> 1 hour)
. No option to calibrate touch system; sometimes have difficulty when using thumb to tap far-off areas
. Didn't find option to transfer apps to SD card. Thought that feature was added to Android long ago. Really nice to have with this limited space.
. No way to uninstall certain preinstalled Google apps
. No builtin always-on display or glance screen. Previous Nokia users may miss this feature.
. Had some trouble setting location accuracy and data connection provider with dual SIMs. Possibly related to OS caching.
