Just bought this phone. Havent checked it thoroughly yet. One thing thats bothering me is the external speaker volume. Its very low. I wonder if there is some fault with my set or do all 5230 sets have very low speaker volume. What do u guys say??

haven't transferred any audio files yet but the sound of radio on the earphones(those included in the package) is not loud either. Is that the case with all 5230 sets?
Thanx

Hi, friends...
I just purchased a nokia 5230. It is the best phone available in mid_range category.
The nokia 6700 slide is also another very good option.
As like other symbian phones plenty of applications are available for this phone.
Gaming is superb with the 3d graphics hardware on board.
All the drawbacks of nokia 5230 are taken care while designing this phone. The kinetic scrolling is really smooth. Much more advanced audio player than 5800. If you are a music lover and love playing 3d and HD gaming , this phone is going to fulfill all your needs.
But nokia had to cut off the camera to maintain price(only 2 megapixel). But when it comes to video recording, this device does an excellent job. Does video recording at 30fps...!!which still is @15fps in some 5megapixel camera phones(nokia 6700 classic and slide).
Its a very good phone. Dont confuse yourselves...just rush to your nearest nokia priority and grab one. You will be quiet happy with its features and perfomance.
All the best.

Class refers to the writing speed of a microsd. It does not refer to reading speed. When you transfer and write files on a class 6 microsd, it will be faster than on a class 4. But when the phone opens, execute files on the card, class 6 and class 4 and even class 2 cards would generally be the same speed. You could benchmark different classes even some cheap brands and they would have almost similar reading speeds, BUT NOT writing speeds.

If you can get the class 6 card it's well and good. It does cost a bit more than class 2 and class 4 cards. But it is worth every penny. Class 6 cards especially for this phone means faster application launch and task switching. Smoother multitasking, smoother video playback especially for high bitrate videos, faster photo browsing, faster music player and the list goes on. I say this because i do own one and everything seems to run twice as fast even with an 8gb card.

Aquachick, 24 May 2010SUPERB !!! However, I have one more question further to your reply... In case I switch the pho... moreYes turning the sensors to off will disable auto orientation of the keyboard. However, you can manually select full qwerty keyboard by selecting full screen qwerty from input options.
By the looks of things, you probably have a malfunctioning proxomity sensor. It might be because of some hindrance like a screen guard covering the sensor opening or dirt stuck to the opening or worst case, you have a busted sensor. There might be a lot of reasons. It could even be a software glitch. Occassionally my touch screen fails to register an input. But it is only temporary and can be rectified by switching off the phone and taking out the batteries. Just try something like that and see if it works. If it's just a software glitch, it can be rectified with nothing more than a simple restart.

In case I switch the phone's sensor OFF, How will I be able to type a message on a QWERTY keypad.. I often use the QWERTY keypad by rotating the screen. (I believe that if you rotate your screen you get the QWERTY keypad in Messaging and this is posible with the sensor on the phone???)
Please clarify :) thanks

Aquachick, 24 May 2010Hi U seem a TechSavvy.. I have a question.. Whenever I receive a call, the display turns off s... moreWell like all other touch screen phones, this phone comes with a proximity sensor which is a camera like port on the right side top corner. It can detect the presence of any object in its proximity by measuring the amount of light entering the sensor. So as the phone is held near the ear, the sensor detects the presence of an object and automatically turns off the display. The same sensor can be used to silence calls simply by keeping the phone upside down or simply by blocking the port with a finger.
While in a call it automatically unlocks the screen as soon as you take the phone away from your ear. It is not advisable to cover the sensor area with screen guards or anything that might obstruct the entry of light. Just make sure the sensore area is completely free from any obstructions. Or else the sensor might somehow be damaged o might not be working properly. For the time being until you get that sorted out you can turn off the sensor manually. Just goto settings, phone, sensor settings and turn off the sensor manually.
By default, the screen always stay unlocked during a call unless you hold the phone close to your ear or lock it manually by using the lock/unlock button.
