As always, a great and thorough review of a new arrival. Just one question that I'm sure many may ask. In this review the 5530 is meant to have VGA at 30 frames per second but according to Nokia's website this device this is not the case:
* Video recording at up to 176 x 220 pixels (QCIF) and up to 15 fps
At present there is hardly reason to choose this device over the outstanding 5800 but as this review points out once the price drop begins it will certainly be an alternative to the bestselling Cookie and Tocco Light.
Pls i want to format my new 5530 memory card but i'm scared i might erase sensitive data/files dat came with the phone.shoud i?
price of 5800 is 15.5k so now is it wise to buy 5530 which will be around 13k.
Anonymous, 21 Aug 2009which one to choose b/t n79 and 5530.big screen, new os,cheaper than n79 all are in favour of 5... moreLook if u want good music, video than u can go for 5530 agains n79 as specs suggest 5530 is better...
And guys I don't think most of u are waiting for gsmarena review to decide whether u want this phone or not....See we are doing 5530 review for last 2 month I don't think gsmarena review has given us any new info...
Yes I feel gsmarena is not a good supported of nokia...
star which has just 65k colours, gsmarena told there display is good, camera is good...I mean they biased by someone or not doing review properly.......
Everyone here are smart enough to understand that maybe this review done by gsmarena is totally biased from something ....
which one to choose b/t n79 and 5530.big screen, new os,cheaper than n79 all are in favour of 5530 but what dissapoints is the poor cam quality.can do without 3g and gps.main purpose watching videos, surfing net on phone, music, is n79 good for all this or i should go for 5530?i have a tight budget so cant buy 5800.
Anil, 21 Aug 2009@eshaan....Price of 5800 is still 17k in india...and it will release in 12k prce tag so there ... moreWho was thinking of downgrading to the05530 from the 5800? Dont do that. .the v30 firmware upgrade has made it super quick! And why no kinetic scroling in main menu?
Camera quality is good in daylight conditions but when pictures are taken indoors or at night they look really really bad, pixelated and they have a high noise level, seems like a 1 megapixel picture
1. Autocomplete doesn't work on S60 browser addressbar. You can only select first item from popup list.
2. Password fields won't let you enter non-latin symbols.
3. LED won't stop blinking even after incoming message was read. It will stop blinking after you unlock the phone once again.
1. XpressMusic player lacks of current queue feature. Be it not XpressMusic I would say nothing, but you can't view currently playing list and you can't add to current queue.
2. No kinetic scrolling in main menu. I have 50 icons in application menu and it's very problematic to scroll them as the display is sunk a bit. Even my small fingure miss the scrollbar at least 1/3 of attempts to scroll it.
3. S60 browser does not support IDNs. It's not so important at the moment, but Cyrillic TLD zone is expected to run in november this year.
Some noticed misses
1. No preentered local ccTLD in S60 browser autocomplete in localized firmware. Only com, net and org.If it's Russian language on the device then ru should be in list already, if it's German, then deshould be in list. Etc.
2. No preinstalled dictionaries in localised firmwares.
Anil, 21 Aug 2009@eshaan....Price of 5800 is still 17k in india...and it will release in 12k prce tag so there ... moreThe review is bad itself
the guy dont knw how 2 write a good review
Supersonic wrote much better review 4 us in jst half page
@eshaan....Price of 5800 is still 17k in india...and it will release in 12k prce tag so there is 5k diffrenece which is very good comparing the downgrade they have done. I mean there is not much cut down from 5800 infact more of a upgraded phone.....
Ok the goodies which u were given to 5800 customers were removed like extra 4gb card, pouch etc....
features iwse it is better than 5800 for sure......
Also don't try to highlight specific bad point from the review there are so many good point mentioned y can't u highliht that..........
About kinetic scrlling in web browser ...sss it may be lill bit slow as compared to other screen but far far better than web browsing in 5800.....
People can complain about no3g no gps I agreee...but noway u can compare it with 5800...its far better than 5800 with alomost everything upgarded from 5800......
Anonymous, 01 Jan 1970wht???this phone is truly value for money, its for people who cannot afford high end phones so if you dont like it just stop complaining and buy some other phone which suits you there are thousands other to choose from.
for those complaining about 3g go and buy 5800 this phone is for the masses and will do very well in countries, like india where 3g is not a priority.3g is just born in india and will take more than a year to get adopted by people and companies.
wifi very well suffices for lack of 3g and still this phone does have gprs and edge which is currently in use.
this phone provides real bang for the bucks and will be a bestseller.
I've been using 5800 for four months, and I've been reading and watching stuff bout Nokia 5530 for some time now. I've gotta say, good job everyone. Now can anybody tell me if downgrading to 5530's a good idea? Also, I read gsmarena's review and I saw snaphots of 5530's music player; the music player doesn't have a wallpaper/background but in a video that I saw on youtube, it has that xpressmusic stripes background. ???
Pls i nid urgent help.hw can i access the contacts in my sim.i av contacts in ma sim but d seem inaccessable.wen i open the sim numbers bar 4rm d contacts options,i only c service nums n fixd dialing only in my 5530.pls HELP.
5530 looks better than 5800 with steel in front not cheap plastic and its faster and doesnt hang, 5800 had many firmware upgrades but still no use and now soon its price will fall after 5530 came....
No 3G ??? In this day and age? Looks to me like a less expensive version of 5800XM.
"...it's only the compact body and the somewhat better design that speak in favor of the 5530."
Says it all. And that's for those that prefer the 5530's looks.
Still, great review.
