Here is a small update for 5800 :
i got done with my e71 and bought this phone a month back... and i am back to using my e71 again! that doesn't mean that this phone is not good enough. it is brilliant for people who would and who can get used to it but i had a lot of problems regarding the instrument i had...
firstly, the earpiece volume keeps fluctuating on a mind of its own which is irritating when you're on a call. can be rectified though if you manage to have the nokia care employees repair it.
secondly, there is no smart search for your phonebook which is a little annoying. there isn't even a proper PIM with the phone. also, you cannot register this phone at my nokia back up which is quite surprising as this for the time being, is their touch-screen flagship!
thirdly, the touch-screen. there is some problem with the feedback. it isn't very tactile and requires quite firm pushes at times. the keyboards are quite nice but while browsing your web mail, when you are typing, all you see is just the dumb little box and the web page is out of sight!
fourth, the built quality is pathetic! seriously, being a 20k phone, i expected it to be more solid but what i got was a pencil box like toy. the carrying pouch itself is great but will leave scratch marks on the back of the phone in sometime.
fifth, the camera seems hardly capable to sport the carl zeiss tag! in fact, the lens maker should ban such ridiculous quality camera performance phones from using its name.
that apart, the office options are just not present and you need to download them. no call manager. all in all, applications for the phone are a big problem.
the screen cannot support more than 4 shorcuts... what the hell! rest, works fine. gps, wifi are all great. sound quality from the speakers is phenomenal!
special mention on the battery of the device: it is really really nice. i used it for almost 100 hrs of talktime over the month and it lasts me 2 days with such usage on a single charge. i like!
it seems more like a phone made for the youth caught between teen-adult phase. they will love it and for good reason. it sure draws a lot of eyes where ever you show it off!
anonymous, 04 Feb 2009i bought nokia 5800 just yesterday, features is brilliant BUT it won't send messages i tried 2... moreif your mobile fails to send text messages (SMS) check your message center number. If you have no idea what your message center number is, contact your service provider. Maybe the phone is pre installed with other operator settings. If this too fails, contact your service provider for more details. There cannot be problems like failed text messages on your phone, if the rest are working perfectly. Path to message center number is MENU > MESSAGES > OPTIONS > SETTINGS > TEXT MESSAGE > MESSAGE CENTER.
Hope this works....

I applogize for previous opinion about 5800 after i changes the version of os from 10 to 11 many things changes:
* Stop freezinf.
* Work faster
* Apply themes
* Good looking interface
but still two disadvantages
1- Low volume of speakers and earphone (compared with music phone)
2- Poor camera quality

anonymous, 04 Feb 2009i bought nokia 5800 just yesterday, features is brilliant BUT it won't send messages i tried 2... moreHve the same problem with my N96. Like somebody allready wrote, it's a immature software problem. Nothing special, and can be fixed with a newest firmware. You can only check phone for viruses before that action, there are some of them that are causing messaging problems.
