guys... how come some of u keep on saying this phone is expensive?
for merely 279 euro (before subsidise), u wont be able to get anything with such features...
dont compare this with Xperia, HTC diamond or Omnia... the price is way much different
Dan, 09 Oct 2008Think of it this way...if you had a choice between n95 8gb and 5800xm, which one would you pic... moreEven if N95 8GB costs twice or even thrice as much as 5800, I'd still choose N95 8GB over this one. A non-Nseries for me is a big NO, NO!!! N95 8GB is a high-end, premium priced device that literally has everything that you can flaunt to the public and get them envious, while 5800 is just a N79 plus touchscreen minus 5MP. U cant flaunt it becos many people can afford it becos its so cheap! The race now is 8MP and I cant and will neva eva go back to 3MP for the sake of a fancy touchscreen! And look at the branding, its "XpressMusic"! Dont u know that XpressMusic is just a toy for teenagers??
Im not interested about this phone at all. I often visit nokia's latest phone models' pages here in gsmarena and this is my first time to visit 5800's page. Im surprised there are already lots of comments in here. But I still dont like this phone. Its of no interest to me at all. Ive just casted my vote on 5800.

I really dont like this phone, sorry!
I've just read the review. Quite positive. The phone doesnt seem to have any drawbacks. What i did find curious is the RMAA readings. It gave the exact numbers of the n85. It seems they both use the same audio chip. Anyway, the numbers are pretty impressive.
Something else that was mentioned is that due to its screen size and speedy gps, this is nokias best GPS solution to date.
Otherwise, the review was quite positive. The phone really is worth the hype. Cant wait to get it.
Can we view / edit / create MS word, powerpoint and excel documents in Nokia 5800????????
The phone is launching in India in the 3rd week of Nov. And it's price? less than Rs20,000... thats around $450.. the iphone, samsung omnia, HTC touch hd all cost around $800-$1000. And they have the same specs....
I guess Nokia has proved why it's the leader in the cellphone market...

It is a great phone packed with all most all the features. On Windows Mobile we cannot get a 16 million color display like NOKIA. Far better than Iphone.
Check the review in this link:
I'll put the final words of the review for the people who "looooove" the iPhone and come here and see what iPhone can't do.
"On balance the 5800 Tube offers pretty decent sound quality, audible stereo speakers, WiFi connectivity, and a sizable display that will remain the best on the market for a quite a while. Frankly, I can hardly find anything to criticize the 5800 for, given how little it goes for - there has never been a phone like this before and now it raises the bar to a wholly new level. Well, it's about time I wrapped it all up - no point in praising this phone any further, I suppose.
Another thing of note about the 5800 Tube is that it simply won't face any challenges on the market - the Apple iPhone is a steep, fashion-savvy offering that has been deprived of many standard features, so a comparison between these two phones would seem a little too far-fetched. It does have smoother and more eye-candy menus, similar video capabilities, but that's about it - in fact the iPhone packs in around a tenth of what the Nokia 5800 has to offer in terms of functionality. It wouldn't be right to put them in one league and then berate the iPhone for lacking so many useful feats. So let the iPhone remain the ultimate choice for all fashion-conscious users, while the Nokia 5800 will be the way to go for everyone who is after a well-rounded do-it-all solution.
The revolution is already here and its name is "Nokia 5800 XpressMusic" - there will be no other similarly geared and at the same time well-balanced phone in 2009. It sports an unparalleled price/quality ratio and changes the rules for all phone makers out there, including Nokia itself."
Period!...Nokia Rules the Cellphone market (no doubt about it!) comes a year and 3 months late after the launch of the iPhone with a lesson for Apple called Nokia 5800 XpressMusic and please don't forget IS A MID-RANGE DEVICE!!!...so...what's next?
Never is too late for something that goooood!!!
i think there's no problem if nokia will sell the 5800 for a lesser price. if other brands will compete with this, it would be a better news for the consumers. let's not hate nokia for it. let other competitors be more competitive thru nokia's dedication to sell cheap phones. it is their strategy. let's respect it.
This is the best touchscreen music phone! Plus it's 3G with video calling. sucks to the iPhone 3G!
hi nokia, i am waiting for this 5800 phone, this is the second time nokia launch the touch screen mobile.my good wishes to nokia people to grand success on this mobile. regards .BENU KUMAR BOSE. RAIPUR (CHHATTISGARH)
yes... just waiting for this phone to get releassed in to the market!!!
probably something better than the crappy Iphone!!! or some other HTCs and so on.,,
the reason behind me liking this phone is not that it is Nokia and me a Nokia fan... its bcoz that it has got all the features and moreover its a ExpressMusic...
hmm...just waiting for this to get released.. and lemme save money$$$ for that...
i love the idea of the specs of this phone.. light weight, with 16m colors touch screen, and 3.2 inches.. it's like a dream come true for me. except for the internal memory. how i wich it has a 16gb like the omnia. and how i wish it can have a port wherein it can already read usb flash drives.
Dan, 09 Oct 2008Think of it this way...if you had a choice between n95 8gb and 5800xm, which one would you pic... moreU probably read my mind. I agree with you 100%. I was gonna say the same thing lol!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! read the comment below guys lol!!!!!!!!
Kal, 09 Oct 2008I still don't get it why people started saying its a "revolution". Its a symbian and its touch... moreThink of it this way...if you had a choice between n95 8gb and 5800xm, which one would you pick?
If it were me i would go for the 5800xm. The extra megapixels on the n95 8gb wont compare to the sweet things this phone can do. Another reason theres so much hype is that its pricing and functionality enables it to go far beyond its touchscreen niche. Every phone in the similar price bracket is now under threat because none of them can provide similar functionality. People will definitely notice this and if they dont mind missing a keypad, they will most definitely go for 5800xm as it is currently the best value for money.
every one here is talking about $350 and $400 as a low price for this phone ??????????come on man this phone is the first nokia symbain touch screen and these prices is before tax and with contracts ?every one here listen well this phone with out tax and contract will be no les than $750 to $1000 .and stop saying that its cool and cheep if this phone will come with low price then the other factory will beat it it must be more expensive than the apple iphone and samsung i900 or lg then it will be the first of all .trust me all of you here.
Kal, 09 Oct 2008I still don't get it why people started saying its a "revolution". Its a symbian and its touch... moreWe're not really concerned about the other manufacturers. Its a revolution for symbian as it brings the UI and functionality to a new level. Most smartphones are symbian-oriented, so this is definitely a welcome step foward. Many people have been crying for a symbian touchscreen phone hence all the hype.
I still don't get it why people started saying its a "revolution". Its a symbian and its touch screen and its afordable. Good job. But does this means whoever owns iphone or omnia or diamond or x1 will go for this? I dont think so. It looks drop dead ugly to me, doesn't matter what it costs. I'm sure others will come up with more affordable touchscreen solutions like LG did a while ago. So where is the revolution? In cutting down price? I'm damn sure there will be better specs and cheaper price in near future. Android is coming up, symbian is going to be free-to-use. There isn't enough to make so much noise. It's good to have price war though, we all get benefited. And yes kudos to Nokia for making symbian touchscreen.
