I've had this phone for a over a year now. It was great when it came out. But these days it seems pretty dated. And it's starting to get laggy and unstable as time goes on (especially as you add more apps). Last night, it took me three tries to boot the damn thing up. Sometimes it just gets stuck on the boot-up screen that says Nokia.
I am ditching it for the Nexus One.
Can anyone help me about my problem? Just yesterday, I connected my 5800XM to my PC using PC Suite mode to use the Nokia Download! Software. But it keep on saying incompatible device. I already update it nothing happened the same result. I also transfer mobile client on my phone but is says certificate error. Im going INSANE now!! Please help me guys :(
I lost mine on satarday but im getting the same phone, It's a great mobile to have..

by the way thanks for your answer and your previous answers and thanks to all the people whom answered my question before and I didn't find the time to thank them.

well, in my opinion, of course it would be the best option to charge ur phone while its off. the batt would lasts longer as it does not spoil the batt. it's like drinking water while walking. so if can, try to off ur phone while charging. i noe nowdays, it is difficult to off ur phone due to responsibilities (work, gf, :-)).
again, i wish to clarify that it is in my opinion. correct me if i'm wrong ppl.
hope tis helps :-)

My friend who also uses 5800xm charges his phone turned off. I've been doing the same thing for 2 weeks now. Is it okay to turn on your cellphone while charging? Is it okay to use your cellphone (i.e. texting, gaming, watching vids) while charging?
Great phone! Bought mine from a doctor who used it for 2 months, been using it for 2 weeks already. The price was 8700php + another 300php for openline. Got problem with battery life which only lasts for 2 days, solved it by changing network mode to GSM, now it lasts longer. Took me 2 1/2 days to finally locate the radio >_< Nice for watching movies and videos. Not that good in browsing photos specially when you have so many photos because you can't view them by folders.

Those days, phones were using ni-mh cells (nickel-metal hydrate) batteries and those batteries needed to be charged 6 to 8 hrs for the 1st usage. nowdays, we all use lithium Ion (LI), so u do not need to charge that long. once teh battery is full, ur done. only difference is u need to charge it few times (3-4 cycles charge) before the optimum life span of ur battery is achieved.
Hope tis helps:-)

i have a small stupid question, when i bought my 5800 i searched again and again the safety book for anything say that i should leave the phone off on the charger for couple of hours or something '4hours' before starting it and i didn't find any thing....so i connected it to the charger for about 30 min. Then opened the phone.
Did i do wrong by this?and what are the effects of such action??
