Your operator has poor speed in 3G , thats why you think it supports 2G only.

I have nokia 5800 xm since 2010. I am very confident to have nokia best functional set with affordable price . all function that needs a guy present this mobile. i have use this set about 2 year and I found no problem in this mobile. if any one want to buy 5800 xm he has taken a right dicision.
