1. what is your current firmware version? The latest one is V21.
2. Is your phone branded? If so, then your operator might be late with updates.
If you have older firmware and unbranded phone, then you should not have a problem to update it via a PC.

hotbrainiac, 26 May 2009i am planning to buy this next week. i have a 6300 phone, and i really love it... now, my ques... morehi hotbrainiac.... i am same like u.... i mean im using my Nokia6300 for the past 2 years & i love it...i want to keep it with me even if i get anyother phones.... but i recently started using my nokia 5800......its cool & its a lovely phone which suites ladies of any age. i recomend u to buy 5800 red colour irs nice for ladies.
I thought this was a good phone and bought it, but to my horror, there were theme problems with installation and date .so I had to hard format the phone to get back working with the power to install applications and themes.
Screen went black in day 2 and had to switch off the handset repeatedly to get it back.
In one word its like using a handset but with terror in mind of getting the set died in any time.
Bullshit release from Nokia.
I juz bought it yesterday nite...it was a nice phone and the price was reasonable too...
To everyone asking about looks, it is a VERY good looking cellphone, I've had mine for about 1 month now, 0 problems, to the guy having problems with the alarm while the cellphone is locked, try upgrading your firmware (fixes all the problems most people have)
i am planning to buy this next week. i have a 6300 phone, and i really love it... now, my question is... do you recommend this phone for a 20 y/o yuong lady?... please post a reply! thanks.
Leonardo, 23 May 2009Why not buy it?
First of all, I am a hard user, I do explore all available resources and po... moreThanks for the thorough, unbiased review. I'd like it very much, especially the "pros" section.
Now, for those who wait for Idou or N97, you'll have to wait a long time, maybe in 2 years they'll get the 5800 price.
And you, Leonardo, name a SE withing the same price range of the 5800 and I'll do an unbiased review for you. Starting from the Walkman series that don't even let you save a favorite song while you listen to it..
4 all those who are asking. .
i have been using this great phone for about a month with software version 20.2.014. .
overall performance is good. . it's not a slow device. .
what i liked:
1- amazing touch screen
2- cool symbian s60 v5 (i am a smartphone lover)
3- nice sound quality
4- 8 GB memory in the box!
5- TV-out cable in the box and a cover!
6- wireless connectivity
7- and the most important. . cheap price!!
what i didn't like. .
1- the plastic it's made of. .
2- camera quality is not so goo in the low-light sights. . but its video recording is great. . the flash isn't that powerful . . but it's just better than nothing!!
3- no d-pad. . that's an important point!! lots of users would like the phone to have a d-pad or a wheel like the sony ericsson p-series. . that's not present here in this device. .
in the end. . the device i am using is great. . i am so hapopy with it., . and i am not planning to change it at all. . except when a cheaper and more powerful device gets to shop. . then i'll think about that!!
for those ones who don't want to pay more than 350$ i can say very obviously that there nothing better than the 5800 Xpress Music to be bought. .
hope that i could benefit you all. .
good luck for you everybody. .
and remember. . the mobile phone isn't just a camera. . it's an OS first . . then the other features may be added. . but the most important thing in a mobile device is the OS. . and since the nokia 5800 has s60 v5 i say that's good. .
