HMD Global is now sending out an update to Android 9 Pie to the Nokia 5, a mid-range phone launched in 2017. The company is definitely among the fastest out there when it comes to updating handsets that aren't flagships to the latest versions of Android.
The news was proudly announced on Twitter by Juho Sarvikas, HMD's Chief Product Officer. The Nokia 5 has been on quite a journey so far. When it was released it had Android 7.1.1 Nougat on board, and then it received an update to Android 8.0 Oreo last year.
It gives me immense pleasure to announce that Nokia 5 (2017) has just been updated to Android 9 Pie! Nokia Phones truly get better over time! pic.twitter.com/HbwKxilXc8— Juho Sarvikas (@sarvikas) January 24, 2019
Like all software updates, expect the Nokia 5's Pie release to be rolling out in stages. As such, don't panic if you own the phone and haven't seen an update notification yet - it should be coming within the next few days.
The only workaround i found is to LIMIT the background processes to 4!!! Access the programming options and do that. You must do it EVERY TIME you reboot! That made my Nokia 5 usable... Waiting for PIE, but now i'm not sure if i update becaus...
How can I reverse it? The speed is immensely slower and WiFi is suddenly a headache.
My Nokia 5 recieved update to Android 9 at the end of January in Iran. The update size was 1663 mb The overall performance of the mobile phone has boosted and I am completely satisfied with it.
