"Johnny 1989" you're searching too far for the "Grid/list"-option...
From the standby screen, press "Menu".
When you see the list of menu, press the top-left key. In there you can change the list/grid view.
to 'Johnny 1989' on the nokia australia website it tells you how to get the GPRS working:
I have got the phone & I am really pleased with it however I have a few probs with it:
*Mark says that you can change the menu to grid settings however on mine it goes the following:
Menu>setting>main display> and I can select from : wallpaper, screensaver, power saver, colour schemes, idle state font colour, operator logo. But no mention of menu view
* I cant seem to get my GPRS to work it says I need to subscribe to it but how?
I saw it today!!! It looks great, but still it's to expensiv...I don't know what to do - i mean - wait and buy for example V3(when it will be cheaper) and mp3 player with radio or buy 6101 which has built in radio??? Please help
To be honest even if it's only slightly better than the 6610i I will purchase it.
The design did attract me to it & the new screen & better camera quality (even though not much better but improvement over 6610i)is enought to sway me as I only really use mine for calls, texting & th eodd picture taking.
One final question, with the 6610i the images taken had a kind of "fish eye" lens so any straight lines on the picture would curve inwards, doe sthis happen on the 6101?
>> The camera of the Nokia 6101 is slightly better than the Nokia 3200 (from CIF to VGA-quality). But still you can't zoom before taking a picture. Only afterwards.
>> The Nokia 6610i quite a good mobile, the 6101 doesn't really "upgrade" your old 6610i, but the pro's of taking the 6101 over your old 6610i are:
- bigger & better screen;
- better polyphonic sounds (mp3 = bad);
- camera is also slightly better (CIF to VGA-quality);
So if you like the 6101 design (which is incomparable with the 6610i), you can switch over to that one. The phone isn't really that expensive, a bit comparable with the release of the 6610i back then.
>> The standby time depends on how often you make calls, listen to radio, etc. ofcourse; but I ussually charge my phone every 3 days.
Hi, I'm considering updating from my Nokia 3200 to the Nokia 6101 - can anyone tell me if the camera is any better?? and can you zoom before you take the pic?? the 3200 couldnt, you could only zoom after you took the photo. Any help would be appreciated, thanks
how many hours it stands in Stand-by, i want to know, pls tell me someone
with this website.
can you buy the phone right out, or do you have to buy it on a plan?
how much is it? and when is it avaliable?
most of all is this website safe?, it doesnt seem all the safe
To Mark or whoever else has this phone.
Is it better than the Nokia 6610i (which is my current phone) & I'm not about just looks, in general
The cheapest I have seen is in Argos on o2 for £129.99 pay as you go but that is in white only, dearest over here: Carphone Warehouse, sim free £199.99.
However I'm sure Carphone Warehouse can do better deals that that :^D
So would you guys recommended it for someone who has an ageing 6610i (I have had the 6610i since July 2004 so it has served me well)
If you're at the shop to buy the Nokia 6101. Ask to see them both, before buying. I did and compared the black and white version at the counter.
My decision was eventually the black one. I'm sure if you put them next to each other, you can easily make a decision.
i advise u to get e black version. e black surface looks more elegant, tho fingerprints may be clearly visible on it dan on the white one..but u cn wipe e fingerprints away..
howeva for the white one, a salesperson said it wud turn yellowish aft some time, esp if it is in contact w oily fingers..u wudnt want ur hp2turn yellow ryt?
Im buying this fone for me b'day anf i think its one of the best looking fone ive ever seen! do u recomend this fone for me? im turnin 13 and iim a girl also black or silver i like th black better but the silver might be better so can sumone post bak!
Hi Toni - Yes you can buy the white 6101 in Australia - exclusively through BDigital. I'm buying one myself. Call the sales line on 13 33 44.
hey guys...my gf does bot her 6101..its black..i noe dere's talk abt visible fingerprints left behind on e black surface..but dose can be cleaned off..e person bhind e counter said for e white one, e white surface may turn yellowish aft some time(which most probably is irreversible..) Consider guys!
Nice post Mark.
It is true, ONLY the mp3's sound bad.
Radio, polyphonic ringtones are good!
I like the phone but there are certain sound problems, sound cracks often.Sound hearing volume is also low so it would say the simple nokia models like 3510i are excellent compared to all this new shit.
To whoever asked:
yes you can take a photo and place it as your wallpaper.
The battery is excellent.
Just want to clear up some things for the people who are having queries about the phone.
I've had my Nokia 6101 for a week exactly now. Do i still feel impressed by the phone - no.
Why? Purely because i'm just bored with the phone. I do get bored quite easily and i do like change so maybe its just me. However the phone has an awful lot going for it. It's great when the phone rings in public and people hear the traditional Nokia ringtone. When i whip the phone out people look and ownder what phone it is i have because its so unlike a Nokia. Clearly its impressive to the onlooker.
As someone else pointed out, i have yet to have software problems with the phone - no crashing no failures in any way. Very good!
Battery life is brilliant. Holds for days i haven't charged for 3 days - with use of radio and video recording and i have only dropped one bar.
Someone asked about the external screen - it shows the signal level, battery meter and time as well as the network name. And yes, you can assign any picture you have taken as a wallpaper for the intenal AND external display. Although most pictures dont look great set on the outside. (4096 colours anyone?)
Sturdy build etc looks great, semi-good features, but poor memory as EVERYONE has mentioned. I'm getting annoyed with people writng on this forum 'Nokia 6101, crap memory not getting it'. Well thats great news but we didn't really need to hear it. If your going to write something at least let it be constructive ok.
So to finish - this will probably be my last post - the Nokia 6101 is a goodlooking clamshell phone with rubbish memory, and bad pre-installed wallpapers. I have resulted in taking my own pictures for wallpapers because it looks much better. The menu style is rubbish compared to other handsets such as Samsung and video quality and sound isn't the best.
However this phone does make up for its downfalls with features such as radio, camera, video recording - though poor, external display, rather customisable and great looks. Thats the 6101 then. Thanks for reading. Mark.
