nokia 6230i latest firmware version is only 3.46. what a waste of time! nokiaaaaaaaaaaa!!!
i want to see v. 4.00 till christmas.
do you hear me?
anyway, nokia just recently came up with an accessory that has a 3.5mm stereo jack. read up at ww.nokia.com. not sure if that's compatible with 6230i - but it's something to look forward.
on how to modify the headset, you do a search with keywords like "Nokia HS-3 Modified For 3.5mm Headphone". I had lots on info from Howards Forum. There are step-by-step instructions there too. It's worth the trouble :-)
my previous fones were:
n6630, p800, p900, n6230,p900,6230i,p910i, n6230i, treo 650, n6680, n70...
i bought this unit again (for the 3rd time), simply because it's GREAT!
"That's why I bought it in the 1st place. BUT, I find that my 6230i gives better SOUND QUALITY (my Nokia headset is modified to accept a std 3.5mm headphone) than W800 - suprised? Me too. "
I'm a fan of Nokia and I have a 6230i. It sound better than W800? how can I modify my headset to accept a 3.5mm headphone? Or where can I found an adaptor from pop port to 3.5mm?
I think that nokia 6230i sound better but not with headset.
hi there, it's been a while. i'm here just to update my experience of using SE W800i. I've had the phone for a week now. Basically, after transfering my SIM card into it, I found myself putting the SIM card back to my 6230i - just after an hour. Really. I began to appreciate my 6230i more after that :-)
Here's why... the W800 is good, don't get me wrong. But it lacks in features that matters the most to me.
The biggest turn off is: Phonebook limited to 500 contacts. I have >600 contacts which I sync thru Microsoft Outlook. This is an unacceptable dissapointment. Not only that, if i bumped into anyone, i can't add that persons name into my phone anymore - coz its FULL!
To make matters WORSE... you can only search a contact by entering the FIRST LETTER ONLY!!!??? Imagine if u have to search a person called NINI and u have 20 contacts that starts with N. Imagine the scrolling that you have to make!! This is SO frustrating.
Sync-ing with Microsoft Outlook is the MAIN reason why I buy an expensive phone. The 6230i does it extremely well. So does W800... BUT it takes SOOOO LONG to complete the synch process - it's frustrating! It's probably 10times slower!!
As an MP3 player - it's really cool that it can be played even if the "phone" is turned OFF and playlist can be created in addition to functions like FF/RR on top of NEXT/PREVIOUS and also the flexibility to use std 3.5mm headphones. That's why I bought it in the 1st place. BUT, I find that my 6230i gives better SOUND QUALITY (my Nokia headset is modified to accept a std 3.5mm headphone) than W800 - suprised? Me too.
User-interface. Well, 6230i wins by a HUGE margin. For example, I can change my ringing tone in a few seconds with the Nokia, but it took ages to do that with W800. I began to appreciate the "Go To" function in Nokia even more.
Weighing all of these, as I was prepared to chuck off my 6230i for the W800 - I found myself GOING BACK TO 6230i.... and loving it more than ever.
By the way, I'm a business user - calendar and contacts synch as well as changing profiles of the phone in accordance to surrounding e.g. meeting, rates HIGHLY important to me. MP3 capability and sound quality is an imprtant feature for me as I'm also a part-time musician. Thats why W800 does not meet my expectation. The phone's camera - i dont care as I use a 5MP "real" camera that gives "REAL" high quality pictures.
I have just bought a 6230i. If I receive a call whilstlistening to the mp3 player the phone reboots when I finish the call? Is this a known bug or a fault? Any ideas?

Yes this phone plays mp3s as ringtones. The ringtones should be kept in the phones' shared memory and not in the MMC. If its kept in te MMC, then after restarting the phone the ringtone switches back to the default Nokia ringtone.
After a file is transferred through infrared or Bluetooth the phone prompts for the target ie. where to save the file. You can choose the MMC and save it there without any problem. Peace.
There are a few things I would like to know about this phone before I decide if I am going to buy it.
- Can you use MP3's as a ringtone?
- If you receive files by Bluetooth, does the phone save them on the Memory Card or on the phones internal memory? (on my current phone, a regular NOKIA6230, I have to clear out my internal memory to receive big files)
The most complete telephone that I know, the only thing that he lacks to be completes it is flash light and lantern.
