Is it my phone at fault or is it supposed to do this?...
When i have it on charge and in 'general' profile, i.e with vibration alerts on..and i receive an incoming text, the vibration doesnt work, yet when i unplug the charger it does? is this the same for all of you?
i have problem when downloading the .jar or .jad file to my phone. the phone stated 'file format not supported'. what should i do???
Well NokiaMia, this should be my absolute final post to you.
I'm not entirely interested in the 6230 camera's nightmode. I only use it when there's something irresitable to capture at nights. Regardless of the grains (which aren't usually many) the picture quality at nights is still good. In regards to lines, I don't recall seeing any lines in my night shots, not once. You have a high-end standalone digital camera, I don't, so you may find more faults with the 6230 camera than I do. Nevertheless, the only reason I asked was because I wanted to know if it was normal for that slowness or my phone was defective in that area as well. Surprisingly, my old Nokia 3200 nightmode seemed much faster which is shocking because the 6230 is a much faster phone overall, lightening fast compared to the 3200.
About the voice commands I asked you about, when you mentioned voice tags for contacts I realised you were actually talking about voice dialling, what I'm talking about is the voice shortcuts to menu items, example, setting a voice command for infared, hold down the appropriate button and say the word infared and it's activated. Nokia's website lists the 6230 as having 16 voice commands and 25 voice dialling commands. When I go to the shortcut menu under settings, I only see 7 voice commands, which is less than 1/2 the stated amount quoted by Nokia. You see, I'm asking you all these to see if my phone is defective in these areas as well.
I know that there isn't a distribution list in this upgrade. I have checked out this feature, set it up just to see what it was all about but I never used this feature so it doesn't matter to me really. It may be a weird move but Nokia probably has a good reason for this, just maybe, due to the additional features, maybe it could have caused problems in the long run in the software, who knows.
I know that the sound is supposed to be much better in this upgrade compared to the original, 64 channels opposed to 24 channels, that's a difference of 40 more channels. Many phones come with 40 max which is regarded as high-end sound for those phones.
The midi file which you say sounds better in 6230, could you please send me that file via my E-mail address ?
I saw a website which states that the 6230i now has 2 speakers, that's INCORRECT right ?
The 6230i DOESN'T have 3D sound right ?
Would you say the ringing volume at max in 6230i is louder or the same as the 6230?
Does the 'i' comes with the same exact polyphonic rings as the original ? If so do they sound much better ?
While the original supported up to 2GB MMC (regarless of Nokia's claim that it only supports up to 128MB), I have heard where this upgrade only supports up to 512MB. How true is this ?
That's it for now NokiaMia. As I said, this should be my last post to you. You need a break now (smile). Take care and God bless.

Camera's Nightmode: it should finished loading at ~10 seconds. But why use nightmode? The quality sucks. Lots of grain and lines - if taking pictures at night is yr main prereference: u shld consider camera phones with flash or night-light.
Voice commands: Not so sure, I only used it for contacts, i think I had about 4 or 5 names with voice-tag. I don't really use voice commands - it was originally designed for people with sight disability or blindness.
On 6230i now:
Ascending ringtones: Why, YES, of course. It's designed to do that - and I love it. It gives me a chance to answer the phone before the volume goes max - very useful in an office environment or at home, esp when your GF is sleeping :). Most of the time, I answer the phone because of the vibration, not becoz of the tone. Personally, I like this. I hope Nokia don't change this.
How much slower is the speed?: it's about a fraction slower, maybe 0.5second? in 6230, there's no lag at all. i think the culprit is the high resolution screen. but it's still faster than most phones out there.
Camera quality? Apple to apple comparison: when I take 640x480 using 6230 and 6230i, the 6230 give slightly better result.
Video recording: Both are not clear enough for my standard. I don't really use this video feature.
Java 3D: sorry, I don't use this feature much too.
Sound quality: For mp3, using headphone - both are equally good. Same thing for the ringing tone, both are equally good. But to beat the 3D sound of samsung, Samsung's better. But I have a MIDI file that sounds better in 6230 than in 6230i. I really can't understand why...
SOME ADDITIONAL NOTE for you:
The 6230i does not have DISTRIBUTION LIST feature in SMS. The 6230 has one. I find this as a very weird move from Nokia. I'm very dissapointed in this but I can live without it.
Hope this info helps.
2 things which suck on the phone are:
1) it wont let you overwrite sent items - so once the small ammount of memory has been utelized you have to delete you texts or move them to a allocated folder.
2) when ever the battery is finished charging it indicates on the screen with a pop up, so every time you out it in your desktop charger\ car kit you have to clear the window - which soon becomes a pain ...
NokiaMia, me again (smile).
NokiaMia thank you for all your responses. You have answered the majority of the questions I asked. However, a few remain which nobody has answered.
Please answer all my questions, step by step, please.
NokiaMia, I mentioned that my 6230's nightmode took a while to load compared to standard mode. On your original 6230, did the nightmode load slowly or did it load quickly as standard mode ?
How many voice commands did you get with your original 6230 ?
Ok NokiaMia, moving on to the 6230i now...
NOKIAMIA, WITH YOUR 6230i :
1. Do you experience ascending ringtones at any volume setting at all ?
2. How much slower is the speed, example, after pressing the menu button, how many more seconds does it takes before seeing 'Messages' appear...in comparison to the original 6230 ?
3. What do you think about the camera quality compared to the original 6230 ? I remember in your post to Christine you said the original takes great photos at VGA resolution while the 'i''s quality is only so-so at megapixel resolution. I asked again though because quite some time have passed and I think you have used the camera enough now to have better judgement where comparing it to the original 6230 is concerned. So, what do you think about the 'i''s camera compared to the 6230 ?
4. Is the video recording clearer ? Even though it's QCIF somehow a sample I saw (on the internet) looked the same as the original 6230 which records in subQCIF. At QCIF, the video quality should be noticeably clearer.
5. Does the support for Java 3D cripples the support for regular Java games (J2ME) ?
6. Is the sound quality clearer, as in MP3 music ? Also, Does the 64 channel polyphonic sound system does any justice, in that, the quality is similar to that of Samsung phones (which I truly believe rules when it comes to polyphonic sounds)?
Well NokiaMia, that's it. I know it's a mouthful but these are just the questions which were bothering me and I would like them queried to have peace of mind. Thank you greatly for your assistance. I look forward to your reply.
Hey,does any1 use 3.3 version software.can u tell me whats the improvements
i know that this phone is great.. but i don't think this phone beat S700i yet. S700i still have a better quality screen and CCD sensor. it is better in terms of tech such as EDGE and push to talk.
i just post this earlier, so i just post it again. anybody knows where to download java games for this phone plz let me know, email me the links would be better. tq.
hey, today when i was playing a video clip,it suddenly freezed and when i tried restarting it ,it just wouldnt start.I took out the battery and inserted it back and then i started.Another thing when playing any video, and u receive an sms, does the video stop.and u have to start it all over again.
Nokia tells me there is a software upgrade version 3.3.Mine is currently 3.25.whats the difference, does anyone know
I've since been to the local Nokia shop regarding the text prob and they said it's because i'm on o2 and it's an o2 thing that they do to their sim cards. I hadnt read your reply at that point and i was not aware of 'flashing' the guy didnt mention it either.
Is it worth me goin back there and askin their opinions on 'flashing' it? Also is anyone else on o2 pay n go having same problem?
i have some problems with this device. i can find any java app -not game- for this phone, please help me with your links. 2nd is i cant read text files with this phone that i tarnfered from pc to mobile. thanks alot
best phone i ever find that have all the features and quality you need for in one set...great display...great sound quality...great capability of storage...great phone overall...get this phone you sure love it for its mp3 sound quality than any other phone...great connectivity...
in one phone you can get::
sound : nokia 8800
display: samsung d500
mp3 : nokia 7710
video : nokia 6630
storage: nokia 6680
Except the ascending ringtone problem and bad quality of monophonic download its better than Nokia 6680 or Sony Ericsson's any 1.3MP camera mobile...its even faster than 3230 or 6630...great sound quality comparable to Nokia 8800...just for loud ringtone increase any sound by more DB through PC and then transfer it to your 6230i and see how you beat any others ringtones volume...camera picture is not bad...also its FM stereo sound is best among any other ph at this moment...also Except 3G connectivity all others that yet releasing r in this set...on my opinion its the best set ever made upon NOKIA software can really run side by side Symbian set
u got a strange prob there crispian. i didnt face it with mine.
well i upgraded to mine from my old 6230 but i keep them both. one for talkin n one for music! the 6230 was easily d fastest but the i is much faster then the series 60 fones. my mums got a 3230 n its so dam slow..
however the pics on the 6230 are much clearer than the i.
apart from tat great fone. but u know wat i fiddle with it every minute n now im gettin bored of it!!
n hey vodaben u still haven told us how to create a playlist.. please do so..
I kinda agree with nokiamia,i have never used the 6230,and i bought the 6230i,its really amazing,it has almost all the features of a symbian h/s minus the constant freezing/hanging.The display is good.i dont find it slow.Infact if u use the 3230,u will find that its much slower than the 6230i.The only thing thats missing in this phone is the sms distribution list.
Even in my set when im talking to someone and i get a msg it gives he normal beep.
But the problem arises when im talking to someone and i get a call and i dont take it,after that if i get a msg and im still on the same call then it wont give the normal beep it will play the sms tone of the general profile.
i like it's style. it's camera is perfect. it's shape is good. sound quality is poor. it's price is affordable. good memory but card is very slow. Nokia is best.
Hey Original Jamaican, thks for your good comments. Well, my opinion is actually, still valid. For those who have used 6230 before, I think, will be quite dissapointed with 6230i due to its slowness. Basically, its human nature to be dissapointed when you think that what you're doing is "upgrading" but in the end, you find your new 'upgraded' phone is actually slower. But the new screen - man, that makes it all worthwhile - assuming you don't mind spending a bit more money for the upgrade. If anybody that has never own a 6230 before and straight away goes for 6230i, then there's nothing to complaint, actually. These are just my personal opinions. But if you ask me, would I go back to 6230 - well, heck NO! the 6230i's screen is just too superb for me to forget. Really, it's a matter of choice, but 6230i is very good indeed. It may be slower - but only to 6230. In comparison to other phones, the 6230i still rocks. (My small heart says - if you can get hold of 6230i - then go for it - but again, your choice, I hope I've helped you for make your decision easier. Good day!
