I've dropped it an entire floor and it hit marble. It has survived without a scratch. Proof, if anyone needs it, that Nokia phones are built to last.
Now if only I could find a better battery for it...
I've had this since August 2005. It's still all-original (except for the upgraded MMC, everything including the battery is intact). It still works like a charm. It's been dropped a few times and accidentally left on a puddle of water face-down, yet it soldiers on like an energizer bunny.
From 5 days' battery life when it was brand-new, batt's now down to 2 days. The casing also has its lion's share of cuts and bruises (more like battle scars) but is still in one piece and holds the phone nicely. The keypads are still okay except for the topmost 3 keys (on top of the 'send', 'end', and the up-navigation key) where just lately, i've experienced some difficulty pressing them to respond (probably due to dust particles).
With the length of time this phone has been with me and the torture it endured as it faithfully accompanied me to my daily grind, meetings, and trips, I am simply amazed at its durability and timelessness of design.
When i bought it, i was expecting a business-class phone with understated elegance. What i got was more than that. Yes, it was a midrange business phone with its features (it's a 2.5G phone as 3G was still under wraps at that time) but it performed like a marathon runner on steroids - never giving up on you whatever the situation.
I also bought it because of its simplicity, as i am partial to bar phones and this one provided the right tactile feel for texting and just the right grasp. its keypads are arranged in a sloping manner to let you feel where in the keypad you're presing, plus it's thick and heavy enough to make you feel secure when grasping it yet light and small enough to just fit the palm of your hands.
This phone's also feature-packed for simple phone users with medium requirements. Screen contrast is excellent even after almost 4 years of use. Speaker's loud enough and has good audio quality. Plays mp3 and 3gp files. Bluetooth AND infrared are also standard here (I don't see IR much nowadays). No 3G, though, but I don't really need it as my other phone takes care of the 3G stuff.
I honestly haven't found a 6-series successor to this one-of-a-kind phone. This phone is an epitome of having your cake and eating it too.
I also wish Nokia create a 6-series phone that's as tough and as robust as this. Sturdy, simple, user-friendly, reliable, very long battery life, feature-packed, and timelessly elegant with an intentionally understated design. These are what made me win over the 6230i and these are what i will look for in its successor.
I'm glad i chose to buy this phone. i'll keep using this until it conks out...well, hopefully in the distant future.=)

Marvellous, wonderful cell phone. Had mine for some years, never fails, tough too! Bought a 6300 recently as a replacement, but nowhere near as good! So will continue to use the 6230i until it totally dies.
I bought yesterday this phone(with 20 euro ;_)),and I was thinking, how many hours works with a bigger battery? One with 1020 mAh?Has anybody try this thing? i hope someone can give me the answer, thank you and have a nice day.
