That is the biggest disadvantage with the particular software you have. It's version 5.00 and it has a glitch, the very thing you mentioned. Funny enough though, when you purchase the phone with your very same software preinstalled, the # key works perfectly.
The very moment you reinstall it or upgrade from an earlier version, this glitch happens.
Personally I don't use that key to silence the phone so it wouldn't really matter to be if I lost that function.
I use the old fashioned way of pressing the power key once and then selecting silent from the profile list.
Don't worry. I'm sure Nokia will fix this problem in their next software release as millions of people have complained about it. I'm sure Nokia is listening...they always do (smile).
The person who disagrees with me, let's see which phones prove to be the true winner at the end of the year.
I will post the result here as soon after the respective sources go to the polls and calculate earnings per phone.
i bought nokia 6300 3 weeks back in its a gr8 phne! super luking! bt something unfortunate happnd wid me n it wz dat while stteing the security code i got into some mess so i had to go to customer care centre n get da software reinstalled. nd nw aftr the reinstallation of de software my # i.e the silent shortcut key doznt work, what should i do?
I disagree with Original Jamaican, The best selling phone in 2007 is K850(now). But before initially was Nokia 6300 a good phone.
Sony Ericsson has W610i to sort of outthrone 6300 and has done it quite convincingly.
Retailers say that now people are willing to buy Nokia N95 8GB, K850, Nokia Prism, W610 and W960
i found a converter for h.264 codec.it's called "ipod converter" but it's not free.it can make videos .3gp with h.264 codec in a resolution 320x240.very, very good but won't work without registring the program.
I bought the 6300 too, and i have a problem i bought a new 2gb memory card and loaded the song via the usb cable, but the music player dosent seem to play them all only the 15 it has automatically put in recent tracklist. I have updated the library and i can see the songs but i cant play them.. any help please?

To PERSIAN GIRL:
You seem to be a sweet lady. Sorry I'm not a resident of your area (smile).
No matter what problem you have with your Nokia 6300 I will be here to help you.
Go with the 6300. You will be pleased with it overall. It's the #1 selling phone for 2007 up to now.
Is Nokia 6300 finally good or not????
I really want to choose a good phone, not the best, but a good one.
Can any1 give some advice on which 1 to pick?
To PERSIAN GIRL:
I couldn't have said it any better than what GHOST said to you (smile).
I have an Oxford dictionary for my 6300. I will send it to you if you provide me with your e-mail address. Whoever else wants it can send me there e-mail address as well.
Even though it's a mobile java based dictionary, it still has a large vocabulary, meaning that you are most likely to find whatever word you look up.
In order for the Music Player to recognize the new tracks, start the Music Player, then select options, select Music Library and then Update Library.
I've also heard that the BL 5C battery works on N 6300. But you have to cut / shave about half a mm of the BL5C battery for it to fit into the N6300, is this right?
Here is the URL for FLV converter program.
It's not free ware.

Well this is a really really good phone but the battery life span is crap.
to :Persian girl
it is not recomended to use the phone while charging.in fact never charge the phone open if u want to keep your battery running smoothly for several years.playing with it when it's charging means that the battery will recharge a little then will consume that current, then will recharge again, loosing it's capacity to retain power.that is the fact for all ni-mh, li-ion or li-polimer batteries.and all need formating whatever people say.

thanks a bunch for your helpful tips, they really are useful ! just a question. suppose that i'm charging my phone for the first or second time, is it better if the cellphone is off ? and if it doesn't matter, can i play with the phone,do some blutooth and other things with my mobile while it is still in the charge ? because if i do that as you know after some minutes the phone starts to recharge itself again . about the photo and footage ! you are a very nice gentleman and i appriciate your kindness, but i have made my mind.i am going to buy this phone tommorrow.it's as i've heard the best seller of nokia in 2007.it is very beautiful and certainly has a great grip.i already love it.by the way , is there an english-english dictionary for this phone? if so , how can i get it? thank you GENTLEMAN !
I NEED HELP! I formatted my memory card but it still says all the songs on the "Music Player" I added new songs and it doesn't play on music player yet it plays on the gallery. What do I do to play my music again to my Music Player?
