jarrad, 20 Nov 2008thanks so much was going to buy it for my birthday and now i know not to buy it and i was lokk... morejarrad,
While it seems that a lot of people did have problems with the first generation 6500s', the later generations, with the revised battery cover and newest firmware (v 8.30), seem to be ok.
I got one a few weeks ago, after coming from a SE W810i, and am quite satisfied with it. The only problems I've had with it were due to old firmware and a screwy MicroSD card: The music library update kept crashing, the phone reset it and get really hot, and the battery would drain within a few hours. However, after I updated to the newest firmware and swapped out the MicroSD card for another, it's fine now.
The camera is great, the music player is pretty good (not as good as Walkman 3.0 though), the sound quality through good headphones is great, and the stainless steel casing looks really nice. However, the battery life is not as good as SE - SE is king in this area. And, I have to recharge it about every 2 days after a fair amount of usage. There are things one can do to help this: turning off the vibrating alert and only turning on Bluetooth, 3G and Internet access when needed, etc..
I have noticed some minor screen blanking on occasion. However, it usually only last a second or two at the most. It only seems to happen if something like an alert comes through while I'm fiddling around in the menu or something. Since S40 is not a multi-tasking OS, I'd expect it to wig-out a little if two or more operations happen simultaneously.

The battery life is awful 2 days maximum if using the phone and texting, you can see the battery level dropping from three quarters to one quarter after a 15 minute call.
The screen has an annoying habit of going blank for a second and then coming back on, this happens on a daily basis while trying to send texts.
Also if you have loaded an image as a wallpaper the phone resets itself and in the process removes the image and also your selected ringtone - I'm unsure why this happens but think it may be when the phone is bumped or vibrated when positioned in the centre console of my car.
The sliding screen does move left to right and feels loose.
On the plus side the phone feels very chunky when it's in the closed position due to its metal casing and weight. The camera is good for a phone and produces some very good photo's although there can be a bit of a delay between pushing the button and the picture being taken. Video quality is not very good at all and because of this I hardly use that feature.
At work two of my colleagues own the same handset and we all agree it is not a good phone.
prasd, 17 Nov 2008i have same problem
take small piece of paper
put it between backcover &phone
then memo... moreHi Prasad
Phones like Nokia 6500 and 5610 comes with hot swappable memory cards (means u can remove the memory card whitout switching the phone off).while u remove the back cover a metal contact get disconnected, which acts like a switch for the memory card. If u place a paper in between the cover and phone, surely the card wont get connected
