to robpe,,you will find vodafone at the root of your problem as ive had trouble in the past getting them to unlock and upgrade things.they often bar mp3 ringtones so you buy theres.they always heavily lock stuff to there network and think people will support me in this matter as its fairly well known how awkward and restrictive they are. That is why i got my 6630 sim free and at the moment running it in 2g and will go to 3g when they release 3g sim cards which will be when 3g is fully working at 99% coverage and less faults.Ive a big feeling that by then we will be using HSPDA but until then 3g is no use to the majority of us thats why my moto a835 is sat there after nearly 2 years, that said when it works the video downloads are somthing else, lets hope things pick up on a big scale
ive just taken a 3 minute vid of my cat and the tail wagging and me wandering about is so smooth compared to my 7610.this was at 176 x 144 resolution and not in night mode. Its very impressive and now want to transfer it to computer to have alook at,,where do i start??the phone does hang sometimes if youre to fast with it,you must let it respond before pressing the next command.the whole package is great and awaiting memory card of 512mb to evolve and see if the phone can accept them with no hitches. The screen is bright and a touch brighter than my gx30 but obviously not the same resolution. The ogg player is crisper and more efficient than the inbuilt player and see no reason at this point in time to go for the 6680 with none of my mates with a 3g phone anyway. This is the second best phone ive had( the 3650 being second)and glad i upgraded to the 6630 while i had the chance to return my 7610 which did not have full screen video, and stuttered thru video.A superb multi purpose entertainment device with a higher speed 220 mhz processor,,excellant 9.5/10...
As I've mentioned I have been losing network coverage becuase Vodaphone 3G signal not good here & phone does not switch over to 2GSM soon enough, so I often lose calls.
I learned from Symbian-Freak.com that v3.45 gives option to switch off 3G, but Nokia service centre say it's not available here in UK & Vodaphone only support firmware version v2.39 151 which I have, with no option to switch off 3G.
At symbian-freak.com you can install 'net watch'. That gives an option to switch off 3G. I've downloaded & installed it & it works as my so phone has plenty of signal on 2GSM :-) Also the battery should last longer on 2GSM for some reason.
So after a month of hassle & aggravation Nokia & Vodaphone have left me to find the solution to a problem they should have sorted out !
I am very angry with Nokia.
Their so called 'customer service' did not help when I emailed them twice. They just kept repeating that only v2.39 is available.
They are a bunch of idiots.
regarding Vodafone block on ringtones. If you go to www.allaboutsymbian.com and do a search for ogg player, this software allows you to play MP3 ringtones. And the files are compressed to 64 byte but with no loss of quality. I have 128mb mmc and have 6 albums on it. Best bit of software you can get for 6630. I recommend it highly
i bought this fone.. its an amazing so buy it and i dont get the pc suite because it doesn't detect my usb cable.. if ne one noz plz help nd send an email..
hey there, does anyone know how to download files from a blootooth transaction to my pc? i can't seem to find the files in my nokia phone browser menu
I have been to Nokia service centre. They do not have 3.45 & don't know when they would get it & 'Vodaphone UK' say they won't support it.
Hi all!! Just bought my 6630 a couple of days ago including the 2nd camera (docking station) for 3G video call. What can I say it's GREAT!!!! No problems what so ever, works perfect. The only down side so far si the battery life :( it only lasts about a day. The camera is great as well as all the other featurs. I very happy with this product. My software version is 3.45.113 (04.01.05). My prior phone was a Nokia 6600 this one is MUCH better, faster, nicer. . . I LOVE IT!!
i feel very confusing after reading the posts here, actually which firmware is better and newer? 3.45 or 3.15?
what is the little thing in the top right hand corner that looks like a camera/light. My friend has bought a 6630 and it does not say in the user manual what it is and it's driving us crazy!!!
I am replying to question posted by one of my freind saying version 3.15 does not support voda phone well that is suprise this is something which no company says because it has dual option mode for 3g service and gsm mode so no question of such wrong posting I have my self upgraded to one of my freind version to 3.15 and he is on tmobile which works very much fine please go to authorise nokia care and get issue solved
hey guys do you know which phone is better n6630 or k750(i)?cause i cant decide which phone will i buy thanks!
It's a great phone with great features. I wonder why people critic the phone so badly. I agree with navendu. I used to have problem with the phone since I got it a month ago which is still V2.49 Firmware. Now, it's problem free with V3.45. Also that, I've just changed the RS-DV-MMC and noticed that it solve all....all...my problem. I wonder why Nokia give that crapy 64MB RS-DV-MMC.
Also, please guys, keep an eye on your 6630 for incoming files & application. There's a possible that the incoming consist of VIRUS.And a tip to look up for the firmware ver. before you buy (#*0000*) & if it's V3.45, then get it.
I'm a happy guy with my Nokia 6630.ADIOS.
don't bother upgrading from a 7610 to a 6630. Not enough changes, only the camera, hotswap, and a few app's. Wait for the N91. It will put all current phones to shame. (except what's being released in Korea)
I have tried to get mine upgraded from V 2.39 to V 3.45 but Vodaphone say they won't support V3.45 & so the NSC don't have it to flash to my phone.
So I'm stuck with my 6630 which does not handover to 2G soon enough when 3G signal is weak. Hence I lose calls sometimes. It is infuriating. I think therefore, that I am perfectly entitled to criticise the 6630 & Nokia, contary to what you may think ;-)
since 2 months I was reading all posting about nokia6630 now today i am once again writing about nokia6630 first of all guys who has problem of rebooting please upgrade to 3.15 version and then switch to gsm mode to save ur battery why people have habit of putting wrong comments when such thing dont happen like phone is lousy and not good why such comments I presume half of people even dont buy phone have bad habit of criticising the nokia6630 buy the phone and then put the comments after using phone for 6 months I have never encountered of rebooting or such thing I have even upgraded the memory card to 256 mb working absolutely so now what problem do u expect the browisng is very good in this phone and also battery last for a day even though I am heavy user I have repeated posting saying close all application which runs at ur back of phone which consume more battery but people dont carry that suggestion also people have abit of charging battery in between they never allow to get it drain and charge to full this way battery is always half charge and company always says let battery aloow to be drained and then give it full charge now question how many people follow this advice
I will welcome answer after reading my comments
I have a 6630 in vodafone, and they seem to have blocked my way to putting my mp3's as ringtones, i asked them and they said i can only download from their site which costs money :(, does anyone know how to break through this?
does this fone really have so many problems?does it hang often?i wanna get it.i have a 7610 and it says that my memory card is corrupt, but otherwise a good fone
oh I forgot to mention about the 6630 Battery life ... if you are heavy user you will need to carry 2 or probably 3 extra battery alongwith you as the battery drains down quicker if u use the phone :D
People interested in buying 6630 first Should have a look at o2 xPhone II which has similar processor speed and much much more internal memory plus Windows Mobile OS. and above all a very very GOOD BATTERY life for a phone which can truly be called as SmartPhone !!
p.s.: Xphone II has got STEREO MP3 & WMA playback for all those who are confused and stucked with Nokias silly dual mono music playback.
