the option between 3G and GSM only isn't available in my phone firmware 2.39.
when i ask them to update it they kept saying the new firmware (3.47) isn't stable yet, i have to wait another month or so.

does anyone have any experience with the new firmware?

Fletch
Thanks for that tip. The &&&*ing idiot in the Nokia shop said you can't switch off 3G !
So now it's gone back to Nokia :-(
I'll have some words for him when I get my phone back. I am not impressed with Nokia putting such a heap of crap out onto the market to be honest.
I recall on another site about switching off 3G & the guy said that also prolongs battery life.

yes.... another reason to pay for an 'off-contract' phone... YOU decide what the 'fancy buttons' do, not the provider! :)

I have switched off my 3G and gone over to GSM

Go to Tools~Settings~Network. In the Network Mode, select GSM.

Seems to sort out alot of the problems though, for some reason, it no longer wishes to access the internet.

Beginning to regret this phone now. At least it was a free upgrade

i bought 6630 just 2 months ago, however, i cant change the palette color, i took it 2 the service agent but they told me it cant be changed for now. My other probleme is that the fone suddenly showed the memory card as not inserted & only fone memory is used.

I think the only ones here saying 'This phone is great' must be kids that like all the gadgets on it !
Anyone that needs a good phone to take & make calls ought not to buy a 6630. I found the same as Andy that it drops out of reception a lot of the time time as it looks for 3G !

Don't buy this phone unless Nokia fixes their stupid problem with the phone looking for 3G every time it loses signal or the signal gets weak. Been 3 days now without a signal.. $700 down the drain. Bought it when it first came out. They sold me a dummy phone with Bugs in it.. It looks great, if only it worked!!! Nokia where are you??? This phone is a failure!

Pej

If you want a camera then buy a camera.
If you want a phone buy a phone.

If you want a crap phone that loses signal & drops out of the network. Has tiny fonts & a battery life of only one day & a camera that only has 1.3M Pixels, then the Nokia 6630 is for you. Go buy one, that way you get a crap phone & a crap camera !

I've been using this 6630 for a while and there's no problem with it. But sometimes it reboots itself but it's normal with the series 60 phones. The camera's great but lags a second. The line's great and there's no problem at all. Love this phone but I need more memory. 1 or 2 GB's please Nokia. Make the 1GB@2GB RS DV MMC faster!

This thing is driving me up the wall now. It keeps searching for 3G networks and shows no coverage. When in Auto mode it goes to 3G and then shows no coverage, when in manual mode it will allow you to chose after chosing it will find the network selected and then after a few minutes it will go to that damn 3G again.. Very bad bug in this system.. This part is very unstable other then that it is a nice phone if you can ever use it.
