Steve, 02 Jun 2009Image processing has little to do with the s40 platform, it's about memory speed. It takes 2-... morei wasn't talking about the software itself. u'r right, it has little to do, it's more about the hardware part and speed like you said..and that is something that mid-level nokias like this one ...or let's just call them S'40-s b'cuz that is the platfdorm they are based on, do not have.
i have the same camera issues with my Arte, seems like ages for it to save a photo and that is the issue we were talking about ...not to mention that mine got stuck a couple of times while trying to save a picture. .. enother e.g. the 6500classic has the same problem, takes quite a while to save a photo
on the other hand, on my other phone, an E71 i don't have such problems (nu such problems in e73,n95,n82,etc,etc) bcuz it's "backed" up by serious platforms (both hardware and software)

It takes 2-4 seconds to process the average image which is perfectly acceptable for a camera phone.
some guy, 02 Jun 2009thanks for yet another reply, very helpful!
Maybe I was in a bit of a rush, deciding that t... morewell...no, actualy. most of the times a model apears for the first time in 2-3-4 countries (eg: germany, china, india)...then, it usualy is imported by individual resellers from countries that haven't launched the model yet, thus having it for sale before their local Nokia shop. this is what usualy happens in my country (and imported from hong-kong/dubai)...and we get new models about 2-3wekks before they are oficialy released here.
All in all, i'd wait to get my hands on it and then decide wether or not to buy it (probably i will, 99%) considering that, at this moment in time, i don't need a smartphone.
unfortunately, i couldn't get my hand on the 6700 despite the fact that i have friends with companies/shops that import phones like i have just told u above

Maybe I was in a bit of a rush, deciding that the 5800 is the better phone.
I think I'm gonna wait until some more reviews pop up, or the pre-ordering pays out and I'm getting it in the middle of June.
But since you are in the phone industry, you might be able to tell me whether or not the resellers tend to ship the phones earlier than e.g. Nokia Shop?!
some guy, 02 Jun 2009Thanks for the reply, and I don't find it do be late at all!
So what you're saying is that ... moreyes, it is more about the looks, but deffinately has better specs than predecesors...ok, maybe in the "looks" department it's 2 stept ahead and in the specs departemes it's just 1 ahead...
S40 is very ok. it's not a smartphone so it doesn't really nead another type of software. in my experience S40 si very reliable, stable and fast around the menu and applications..
the only thing i stressed out earlier and sticking to it yet ..is the camera ...it is possible that it would be a bit slow for an S40 platform software to process such a rezolution (5mpx) ... still, we have to wait and see. So, basicaly, that is about the only thing that may be a no-no
otherwise, the specs are quite adequate for an S40 phone so there really shouldn't be any problems, i can't see where ...
look at it this way...it's a better Nokia Arte both in specs and looks (my oppinion) at 1/3 the price
Anonymous, 02 Jun 2009Hey, sorry for the late Reply ...S40 is pretty stable, it's probably the best mid-phone "OS" ... moreThanks for the reply, and I don't find it do be late at all!
So what you're saying is that S40 isn't a disadvantage?!
I think what I'm going to do is go to a phone dealer and try the 5800. If I don't find it particularly cheap looking or feeling, I'm going to take it.
Because what I'm only realizing now (thanks to you) is that this phone is more about looks than function.
some guy, 02 Jun 2009If thats true than mobile-reviews is totally wrong and I'm going to have to cancel the pre-order :(Hey, sorry for the late Reply ...S40 is pretty stable, it's probably the best mid-phone "OS" (so to say)..excepting smartphones, those are a different category.
The camera on the 6700 MAY be a bit SLOW, that's true, cuz it usualy takes a lot of resources for a phone to process such a resolution. so that may be a bit of a no-no . can't say tough cuz i don't have one yet so i can test (i'm in the mobile phone industry, i know pretty well)
I don't really believe the issues with the battery stand-by time...i am 95% convinced that it works just fine (maybe the first few charges may be a bit often) but Nokia is well known for good batteries, especialy on thei S40-s platforms....
otherwise...on the video department, it's probably avarage, Nokia hasn't said it would be otherwise
i personaly think it's worth it's money..but than again, i always see / test the prone in the shop, like every other customer and then pay the money (or change my mind about buying the certain item)
in conclusion, i think it's an ok phone with an ok price, a phone that has good specs and most of all..it LOOKS GREAT (that being it's main "thing" )

I have got it yesterday. It is as like as 6300. Poor battery backup even with only a few calls. Camera is poor. N series 3mpx is far better than this 5mpx. Rebooting. Music is not very bad but not of good quality. Video recording is worst. Get up Nokia.
Anonymous, 02 Jun 2009yes...document viewer would be GREAT.
I have the same "feelings" against the 5800 ...i also... morethank you, you really are a great help!
Pre-ordered the 6700! It says in the nokia shop that it will ship at 16th of June. But since I ordered it from Amazon, I was wondering if they are usually able to ship it earlier than Nokia itself does?
PS: Don't you have any concerns about S40?
some guy, 01 Jun 2009well you sure as hell seem confident enough for me to believe that. :)
I totally agree, if th... moreyes...document viewer would be GREAT.
I have the same "feelings" against the 5800 ...i also wanted to get tha model when it firt apeared but i was advised not to because of the same reasuns (bad build quality, cheap plastic, slow UI) Otherwise it's just about as smart as the E71 ...plus touchscreen (that in the end being about the only "novelty")
JOHN:
I understand. In my country too...usualy long before official retailers have a new model in stock, there are some "guys" that bring them from i-donno-where (sometimes severel weeks/month before).
Unfortunately...with the 6700, it's not the case :(
This phone is already available in phone shops in Rotterdam Chinatown (Netherlands).
Very strange because in regular Dutch phoneshops, they are not available...
Anonymous, 01 Jun 2009of course it's the same quality :) no doubt about it
i don't know about PDf, txt, etc, don... morewell you sure as hell seem confident enough for me to believe that. :)
I totally agree, if they would make a reasonably priced phone (like the 6700) that can do everything they would shoot themselves in the leg.
but I'd love a text-file viewer. could prove useful in exams, not that I would ever cheat! ;)
since you were a great help, I just wanna ask what speaks against the 5800 (I know it's aimed at different people than the 6700)? since it has wifi and a touchscreen. sure, its mostly plastic, but thats the biggest downside I can find, well apart from the size! xD
some guy, 01 Jun 2009lets hope the buttons on the 6700 have the same quality.

i don't know about PDf, txt, etc, don't realy know if it does...hopefully someone will think about some serious software up-dates for S'40 ... wold be a sham not to ..
that is the reason i am not giving up my e71 ... the lack of Office capabilities and wifi .. but i am very happy with the 6700 ...it would be stupid of me to complain cuz i realise that it's each phone with it's specific set of characteristics

but since this isn't an E-series phone, I',m wondering if it can handle PDFs or .txt files?
or is this something S40 doesn't support?

doesn't matter to me though, I'm getting this phone no mat... moreno problem
me 2 :D
i already have an arte...the buttons are extremely good, better than touch ones (those have slow response time and are more .. "girly" to use)
it's a good solid phone + looks great, not as smart as my other (e71 (besides the arte i just told u about)) but certainly worth the money
Anonymous, 01 Jun 2009nu...it has exactly the same buttons as nokia Arte. PUSH buttonsthanks you for clearing that up!
