I had the 6710 for 3 months now! I had the same problem with the sticky keys and random auto feature with the camera and GPS! Other than those two problems, it is a great phone. I upgraded with the latest firmware and OVI maps software and it solved all the problems. I now have a great phone with no problems. It is a pity that Nokia released this phone with all these problems before selling it to the public.
Same Sh.. different day also havin issues with the zoom function and freezing up dont get me started .....
Bought a 6710 in January 2010. I travelled, and while I was in Turkey, Thailand and Hungary, the Nokia dealers wouldn't fix it under warranty because it's a Ukrainian warranty. Get real - is Nokia not an international company? I have the same problem as many others - zooming in and out on photos or GPS. GPS was virtually useless because one minute I'd be looking at a street that fills my screen, and the next I see an image of the whole planet. Keys freeze, and bluetooth drops out regularly.
The first three Authorized Nokia Repair Centers in Ukraine said I had to pay for repairs - rip off merchants!
Yet Nokia continue to promote and distribute this faulty device!! In English, the word for that is fraud.
I have had 3 phones in 2 weeks from MTN SP. 2 black and one titanium. The first one, a black one had a faulty LCD so OBF. Next one was a titanium with zoom Issue OBF. I was told the black ones have better software so i thought i would give it a go. My new black 6710 lasted 1 day. STAY AWAY FROM THIS HANDSET!!
I am really disappointed in Nokia!!
I do agree fully this phone sucks, it keeps on zooming in and out and is so irritated and the best of all i sell my 6110 for R600 :-(((((
Fed up with my Nokia 6710 Navigator. It's been in for repairs on several occassions, yet STILL having the same problems of zooming in and out, keys freezing / not working etc. Each time I get told the problem has been fixed, yet after a few weeks, it's back to the same old problems. When is Nokia going to wake up and realise there are problems with this phone and recall them. Oh and the best is, MTN won't exchange it for another phone - they'll just keep sending it in for repairs!!!!
I'v been through 7 units this yaer with Vodacom. Even received a unit directly fron Nokia SA. All suffered the dreaded zoom/freezing keypad problems. Vodcom has thus finally exchanged it for a Nokia E72 (Which I want to sell because my other phone is a blackberry)
New software from april 2010 DIDNOT fix zoom and keypad problems....nokia..connecting people in their problems..(((
i did not even have this phone for a day and had to send it back for repairs, a week later i got it back, two days later it started zooming in and out wildly, will see what happens when i get it back, nokia is really letting itself down, do not buy
my 6710 works perfectly now. i got frustrated with technitions that dont know what they are doing and decided to do it my self.
i CAREFULLY removed the screen and remove the copper plate "sensor" clip it with small nailclipper right where it came out of the phone.
clean the screen and got some adhesive tape wich has no chemicals that can destroy the phone and put the screen cover back on. since then i can use the zoom manualy on the side button and it works great.
besides the zoom this is the best phone ive ever had from nokia
i take back my word after reading all the comments i thought it was a miner problem, only if i knew better! its a no go area when it comes to the nokia 6710! if im not clear!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! DONT BUUUUUUUUYYYYYYYY!!!!!!!!
i have been having the nokia handset for about a month now,but from day one the phone has always gave me a problem with the zooming touch pad, when ever im in an aplication that uses the functionality of zooming, the phone just control it self by zooming in and out the objects(map, pictures and internet pages) but never the less im 100% i got the perfect handset for my self as an guy who likes exploring different parts of the world!well done nokia
to tell the truth this is the worst phone ever,my phone is 1week old alredy it was obf'd 2 times
Got this in Nov 09 and am now onto my 5th one, as none have worked longer than 4wks. I just went to check my current one only to find it has now totally died. I also have had major issues with all of them turning themselves on/off, zooming pics in/out by itself, changing alarm times from am to pm by itself. It feels like it's possessed. Anyway it appears I now don't have a phone so DON'T GET ONE OF THESE, VERY VERY UNRELIABLE, and as I said, this is my 5th one!!! My provider have finally agreed to allow me to get a different phone, now I have to find another....wish me luck!
What do you think of the firmware upgrade 031.22 06-Apr-2010 ? Does that solve our problems?
i want to know what nokia is going to to about their fauly handsets,
i did not pay for such poor quality, i demand a refund or a replacement, definatly not of the same model,
this is rubish....so many faults, even the navigation is faulty,
this is like hell living with my 6710....
Also had this phone since Feb 2010 and doing the same thing. Zooming in and out by itself in camera mode, navigation, internet and picture viewing. The keypad is non responsive at times, but works fine in MXIT, which means its not hardware, but a software problem. Was in for repairs twice, but always comes back with same thing, even after handset was replaced. Don't buy this phone. You will regret it.
The 6710 is the worst phone i've ever had, besides the well known self zooming problems the phone seems to have the devil in it,mine zooms by itself, keys dont respond as i text,it lists every available w-lan network even with the feature turned off and then recently as though i hadnt had problems the screen light died and i can only use it when it wants to be used!why cant nokia behave responsibly and have a recall? Is that too much to ask? Toyota admitted and recalled their faulty cars why not do the same or better still fire the entire quality control staff at nokia! Ii'd really like to shove this piece of sh....t up someones ar... IM DONE WITH NOKIA ,THATS FOR SURE!
Today I got rid of my Nokia 6710 and traded it for a wonderful 2nd hand Nokia N82. The seller told me the Nokia 6710 was such a big flop because many people avoided buying this model.
Despite the disappointing experience, I will still buy a Nokia. But I will only buy a 2nd hand Nokia or wait 6 months - 1 year if I want to purchase a new model.
The seller gave me some tips when buying handphones & the rules apply in my country Malaysia.
1. LG & Samsung handphones hold the worst resale value. Reasons - difficult to find spare parts & expensive to repair.
2. HTC, Blackberry & Apple iPhone are very expensive to repair. Better resale value because quite popular with the businessmen.
3. Nokia & Sony Ericsson retain the highest trade-in value. Reason - very easy to find spare parts and cheap to repair.
4. Nokia N series have higher resale value than E series.
5. Sony Ericsson Cybershot series have higher resale value than Walkman series.
It is clear that a strong cameraphone from either Nokia or Sony Ericsson is a good bet. So while waiting for Nokia N8 to appear, I'll use my N82 for the time being.
PJE, 17 May 2010I am from South Africa, and got my 6710 Navigator on a MTN contract in October last year. It h... moreI am also from South Africa and have just received my 6710 Navigator and your post and the others have put me in a state of shock - I thought the in and out zooming was a result of my 'clumsy fingers'. Please, please let my phone be the exception.
