Nokia Symbian S60

Nokia have just announced their latest handset, the Nokia 6788. This is company’s first TD-SCDMA compatible mobile phone. That abbreviation stands for China's home-brewed 3G standard, which works on top the regular GSM network but evades licensing fees that are mandatory when using UMTS and HSDPA technologies.

Measuring 105.6 x 54.9 x 18.9 mm, the Nokia 6788 is on the chubbier side however its feature pack is a good excuse for that size. We can hardly think of a feature that's not on the spec list (save for the Wi-Fi support, but that's carrier-specific requirement).

It's a pitty that the Nokia 6788 will be exclusively sold in China

The Nokia 6788 is a smartphone that runs Symbian OS v9.3, Series 60 rel. 3.2 and packs good 128MB of RAM. There is also 256MB of ROM, 4GB inbuilt flash memory and a microSDHC card slot. As we've already mentioned, the device supports TD-SCDMA as well GSM networks (so, you might use it outside China as well but without high-speed connectivity).

The phone will feature Bluetooth support, a built-in GPS receiver and a promising 1200 mAh Li-Ion battery. The new Nokia 6788 will also sport a large 2.8-inch 16M-color screen, standard 3.5mm audio jack, and a 5-megapixel autofocus sharpshooter with Carl Zeiss optics, dual LED flash and a protective lid.

The Nokia 6788 will be exclusively available in China. It will be sold in black and brown and on its back there are patterns inspired by the Chinese traditions and culture. The smartphone should hit the shelves some time in December 2009 and Nokia declared their plans to announce more handsets with TD-SCDMA support very soon.
