No current updates from this phone is supported in the US, however, there are ways to, i.e. send it to one of the major Nokia Care Center in the Eastern Region, or send it to relatives from other countries, and have them do it.
A firmware is the electronic heart of a receiver(in this case Nokia 7710), where coded instructions relating to receiver function, and sometimes data processing algorithms, are embedded as integral portions of the internal circuitry.
You tell the T.V. to change channels by using the remote.
The firmware upgrades are new datas that improves efficient running of the phone.
WK, you got work and still manage to help, I just replied your e-mail.
hi friends i hav nokia 7710.
and i want to know that what is this "firmware". is it opertaiong system of phone.??
You're in luck as I also live in Bristol (also recently, but not such a long journey). The nearest Nokia Care Centre in Bristol are:
Unit 20 Lower Level,
2a New Broadmead,
0117 927 3892
7 The Mall,
0117 946 7441
Ring one of them up and confirm they have the firmware and can upgrade it.
I would like to know where in UK can I get my firmware upgraded fo 7710. My firmware is
Any other info is appreciated. I have moved to Bristol UK from India very recently.
Shailesh, the 7710 does have an FM radio, which works very well. It also incorporates virtual radio, but I dont use that. Having had the 6600 myself just before this phone, I can strongly recommend the 7710. Everything about it is better than the 6600, including - in my case - stability and speed.
Moudi, you can d/l the latest firmware from the internet, but you have to pay and then you have to get an eeprom blower, the correct cable and software (these are expensive). You then need the skill to do it. Basically, you CANNOT update the 7710 firmware yourself. It has to be taken into a Nokia Service Centre. I do not know if the firware differs / country. I assume the language probably does.
You can connect the 7710 to the Apple Mac (much to my surprise). Here is how http://www.allaboutsymbian.com/forum/showthread.php?t=36750
On the 7710, you get a cut down version of Office. You get Document (reads and writes to Word files), Sheet (reads and writes to Excel) and Presentations (reads Powerpoint). The applications do not have full functionality (indeed Document cant do much more than Write) and they are slow to initially convert files from Office into their format. Once you have the files converted though and open, they are fast enough to use.As an example, I just opened a 630kb Word file and it took 15 seconds to open and after that I could fully scroll up and down it with no problems. It did a full word count in < 1 sec and came back with 104556 words. I cant check any further as I'm at another location and this pc wont instal PC Suite. I do use the 7710 as a work tool and spent an hour on the train "typing" information into Document. As soon as I get to a PC I can sync with, I'll transfer the document and tidy it up. It is NOT a fully working Office suite by any stretch of the imagination though!
Ringtones: Place the files in the same location as the existing phone's ring tones (on the Device, not the memory card) and it will pick them up straight away.
You can open a .doc attachment and view it with the phone. However, I beleive it will convert it to .ewd format. This can take a minute or two if the document is very big or can be transparent if small. I think the report you read was correct. I know of no viewer on the 7710 that does not convert a .doc file when reading it. Same goes for the .xls files. My 40 page 1.5 mb file took a couple of minutes to convert and then it opened and edited really well. I do have speed issues with the .pdf viewer and mobireader when trying to go back and forth too far on them. Oh and slovoed is slow too (but it is huge).
ANything else people need to know, just ask. I am very busy at work, but will try and aid.
hey guys, i liked the nokia 7710 and i want to get it, but i am worried abt the new netfirms, can i get it ???? plz help me, if any of you have it plz send to my email and ddoes it differs from one country to the other
finally got confirmation from Nokia SA today:-)
Our latest firmware in SA is 4.01.00
As far as I know ActiveSync can only interact with Windows-Mobile..etc
Does anyone know about ActiveSync ? Can it be used to sync emails with the PC ??
NGN, yes you can its the SU 8 (or something like that, I cant recall the exact name). Its a bluetooth keyboard for which the driver is available on the nokia site under the 7710 software section. Expansys are selling a keyboards for the 7710 for about £70.
I heard that you can use a real keyboard for 7710, besides the software one. Is this true, because there is nothing saying about this on nokia.com?
Hi, sorry have been and am busy. The 910i is not as good as the 7710 (imho), depends what you want it for though. I'll reply to the others and do the Word tests once I have my work out the way (about 6 hours from now I think).
hey peeps, i m dam confused abt which phone to get. a 7710 is in my mind but i wanna know whether it is a good deal n a good phone or is der ne other phone better. wat abt a sony P 910i confused between thes 2 so if ne 1 can give me advise pls do. really confused
Just got my 7710 and I think it's totally awesome.
The only downside for this phone in my opinion is the lack of software for it.
No games, no fun tools et cetera....
If U guys know any good place for software, or maybe want to share some with me...please send me an email
I read most of the recent posts and I'm a bit confused. Does office work well on 7710 (speed, compatibility) with the latest update installed? When I tested it (out of the box, in a shop) i was dissapointed by the speed. Does this change dramaticaly with an update? How well does it handle Flash and Java?
Hey there folks i believe that the Nokia 7710 is the best out there so i am going to get and upgrade from Nokia 6820 .
