I would hardly sell the phone due to bad design issues. But i guess that it could be a problem fro some.
I am wondering, is this a common problem with the bluetooth? Has it been fixed with the latest firmware? How much are you selling it for?
I just bought the nokia 7710 4 months ago and there are two things id like to say about it:
First, it's a wonderful multimedia device! its like having a camera, video player, mp3 player, all in one! the stereo sound of the mp3 is superb! i actually compared it to a Cd and the quality is nearly the same! Its great for viewing pictures and videos! its like having a pocket tv! simply put, its a great output device!
the next comment is more on the negative side, and i just realized these facts after experiencing the phone. the one thing i really hate is the easily scratched touchscreen! i just hope that nokia could have put a glass-like touchscreen similar to those of Palms. Although i have been extremely ,meticulous in caring for the screen, all my efforts were in vain. It's physically unaesthetic! then there's the limited ability to input text via the stylus. Personally, i am an avid texter. (person who sends SMS). And i like to text on the go! It's a funny thing that i dont get to bump people yet whil im walking the street tapping cautiously at the phone! it's really inconvenient! and i just realized that when i needed to respond to SMS quickly on the street or when i have to make a call! Yes, i have to admit im not a stylus person, though i completely agree that the stylus method is the easiest human-computer interaction. Thus, this ends my praises and whines about the Nokia 7710. In conclusion, the phone's now on sale!
I dont have any dead pixels either. So far the phone is running smoothly and i dont have any problems with the software. there is some kind of problem with the bluetooth-once activated when i start searching for other divices the screen freeze and i have to restart the phone to go back to the bluetooth menu.
I will find out from Nokia tomorow what exactly their prosedures are when you find a dead pixel and then post them here.
This post is actually turing into a quite fun way to stay informed.Ever thought of maybe starting a podcast about exactly these tipes of issues?
Have a good evening every one. Ive got a commercial shoot at work tomorow and am now going to bed.
Not had a single pixel dying on me either. I've also never noticed a yellow tinge and agree with Rob's post entirely. As for will the phone work in the US, it is triband, so I understand that it will work almost anywhere (including the US) apart from South America.
I'm off home now. Will reply to you later Hugo if you still need it. I'm still getting people who think my "phone" is amazing :)
does anybody know if the nokia 7710 will work on the maerican cingular network???????????????? someone please get back to me!!!!!!!!!!!!
Your oppinions as a 7710 owner are most valued on this post.
I have also heard that the screen has a notably yellow tint to it.It is not a very big issue but it is good to know that this might not be the case.
Another thing that I didn't even think about was the matter of dead pixels. One tends to forget the the 7710 uses a standard LCD display, just like an LCD monitor. Are there any people on here who have found dead pixels on the 7710? And also, what is nokia's policy on returing a phone should any dead pixels occur?
Good review pages on the 7710. As an owner I enjoyed reading them.
Couple of things: The display on mine is perfect - bright white and consistent across the whole screen. Not yellow at all and not one failed pixel, which when you consider there's 204,800 that's pretty good going.
Secondly, it IS possible to run several applications at once, as long as they don't use the same commit charge.
i.e. You can't send a text / MMS whilst on the web as the phone will only handle one media channel at a time (as all phones will do).
You can however (as I did) have the internet browser open, switch back to menu and open the music player then switch back to menu and go to images or whatever and the net and music will continue to run.
Since there is no strict application closer, the net will continue until you physically disconnect it via the drop down menu.
This is common for all applications.
Maybe the phone was revised slightly early on in it's life (as so is often the case with platform electronics), but whatever the case, the Nokia 7710 is an excellent phone and is simply the quickest machine in operation.
I used to have a Nokia 7610 which was fantastic, but the 7710 blows me (and everyone who looks at it) away. I bought a 1Gb MMC so I can use it as an MP3 player. Can get around 300 songs at 96kbps, and the quality is superb through the supplied stereo headphones.
The camera is fantastic, the video is smooth, audio output through the speaker is plenty loud enough, through the headphones - louder than you'd ever need. The interface is reliable & fast, the screen superb, the stylus interaction is always spot on and the application and file managers delve deep into the system in an intelligent hierarchical system.
10/10 for Nokia. What will they come up with next.
Thanks for the reply Whitchking.
Well, you have just made my mind about the N7710.I am definately geting one within the next week or so.
The apps things is not such a big issue for me.I have had my N9500 for a while now and even thought the N92XX apps work (some anyway) and even though there are quite a few N95/9300 apps available,I dont bother to download. I use the phone for email and sms and that's about it.I dont even use the WIFI all that much.
Tell me, Whitcking, what is your general oppinion about the N7710 being an owner?
Sorry, I've been away for the weekend (living in a wigwam in Wales). Anyway, I would have said the 7710 was on a par speedwise with the 9500, but maybe slower as it has a larger screen to update, nice to hear that Nokia say it is faster (thanks Hugo). I know it is at least as fast as my 6600 (hunk of junk) and if it starts getting slow, I know its time to clean up the memory (switcher) or the card. Apparently you can defrag the memory cards and that helps things too (put them in a card read first!).
Switcher can be found at http://my-symbian.com/9210/applications/applications.php?fldAuto=123&faq=2 it is more effective than pressing the right bottom key for 5 seconds with the new firmware. I have used Nokia's new way of closing applications and I have to say it sucks. Switcher is much better and will close down anything (including itself and the phone) and sorts a lot of problems. The nokia closure, does not really close anything much.
7710Questioner: The lack of numeric keypad does not hinder game play as games are designed to use the available keys. That said, I do not think S60 and S70 will become outdated. Apparently Nokia is not developing the S90 any further, so developers will not make loads of things for the 7710. That said, porting from the S80 OS is relativley simple and can be done in a couple of hours in many cases (or not even need it in many (like Switcher)). Nokia is developing another OS which will combine the kernel of the S60 with the improved UI and screen resolutions of the S90. Thanks for your compliments N7710, but I have to admit I'm not an expert on this phone, I just read up on it a lot before I got it! :o) Being a computer consultant and an ex telecommunications engineer might help I guess though ;o)
My firmware is 3.26, it doesn't hang much unless I mess with it.
Hi boys and girls:-)
I have just confirmed with Nokia Technical SA about the speed of the N7710. It IS in fact faster than the N9500. They also have no reported faults with the phone as of yet, and all our local stock (in South-Africa)ship with the latest firmware version (3.26).
They retail here for R5470.00. I am seriously considering replacing my N9500 with a N7710.
does the version 3.26 has a closing application???? like switcher???? what is it??? 20% faster???? what is your version?? it's slow but i don't find bugs... it just hang! tnx
Hello Witchking.. I really like your comments and knowledge up made on the N7710. Every quality fone have its best user and i believed you are qualified for that due to the help you gave to others in this site. I have a question when comparing the fone to the popular SE P910. I m not rich but owning the N7710 makes me feel and look great. I especially like the touchscreen feature though i know SE P910 does have it. But the major problem with the SE P910 is that there is no navigation keys in which playing games would be an inconvenience to the moderate gamers like myself. But huge length vertically doesn't mean that you can browse things ease.. Horizontal length is better so there is no eye strain. No TV length is longer in vertical than horizontal.. Haha!! Does the hardware numerical keypad of the p910 helps much to play games? But programs available for the P910 is several than the 7710. But Nokia won leave their consumers down as downloads will be made available in the near future and eventually making the Series 60 or 70 outdated. The N7710 is also cheaper than the p910. I m just confused.. I need your comments Witchking. Thank you..
Whitchking, please answer hugo's question...u seem to be the best person to answer this one. I am also planning to buy this phone.
Ok, so i have read all the reviews and oppinions, and now i want to pose a question:
Which is the faster phone between the 9500 and the 7710? I would appreciate oppinions based on 7710's with the latest firmware.
I have been using the N9500 for a while now, and have thus learnt how to deal with a slow OS, but is the 7710 really that slow or the same speed as the N9500?
Witchking, I followed what u said for the tthemes but I couldnt find any thing. That Windows XP and Blue theme sound cool. Were can I get those. Could u send it to me or something. Or remember where you got it.
Also IceCub, were did you get themes.
For once, this is easy. The 7710 is as it has the largest screen of the four of them and it is has the same number of colours. They will all access at the speed of your supplier, so it just comes down to which has the biggest screen really and that is the 7710.The 7710 can also play flash games etc.
Can anybody please tell which mobile is the best for surfing the INTERNET. I've four mobiles in my list... Nokia 7710,O2 mini,Nokia 6670 and 6680. Please help me regarding this problem.
can someone tell me what is this "picodrive" for? i had my nokia yesterday and i experience some kind of a problem with sending the text msgs(SMS)?
Every time i try to send a msg it failed?
there is icon on the screen saying CHECK NETWORK SERVICES.ive checked everywhere -everithing seems right, spend two hours talking on the phone to VODAFONE costumer services(useless) they make me do the manual settings on the network provider(dosent help) Please if anyone had the same or similar problem or have some advice to write me on the e-mail:email@example.com or here?otherwise i have to go and replace the phone if i cant get it sorted-the support sevices told me there is possability to be a software fault!!
