TL; DR? = Just buy it, you'll treasure it.
I waited a looong time to get a smartphone as didn't need the functionality and I'm very fond of my still pretty, perfect, admittedly archaic Nokia 6303 classic since 2010; and I perversely enjoyed people getting annoyed and teasing me about it!
I researched and compared a LOT in past 2 years - as I pay cash and plan to use the same phone for e.g. 5 years or longer if possible - as I hardly make calls and don't need mobile data. I think the prices being charged for 'flagship' models is unjustifiable: you can get a decent laptop for that money - just a rip-off for a 'want vs. need-to-have' fashion accessory, imho.
So when I saw the Nokia 8 offered at half the price in December 2017, I jumped.
Gorilla Glass on all the recent 'flagships' back and front from what I read is an accident waiting to easily happen. As for the curved edges 'fad' - from what I see and read it is actually an annoyance and impractical and I'll not be surprised if it is phased out in future.
The above are great examples of 'form and fashion' over function imho.
I absolutely love this Nokia 8 - and it was a third of the price of the latest Samsungs.
I'd still choose it over the 'Sirroco' - the screen is only fractionally smaller and I prefer the super high resolution LCD - from what I've read about lifetime and other issues with Amolead screens. Same great processor and highly competitive performance specs - will stand the test of time.
I like having a headphone jack; and Micro SD card - both ommitted on the Sirocco.
Yes it already looks a little retro with the top and bottom bezels but it is an aesthetically beautiful (timeless) elegant pefectly balanced design to hold and behold; with very reassuringly sturdy construction.
Updates timeously with the latest Android & security patches etc. Butter smooth, flawless and lightning fast functionality; and all stock Google and other apps work great. Elegant and effective operating system usability and limited 'bloatware' - esp compared to e.g. Samsung from what I gather.
Annoying is the barrage of Google privacy invading attempts e.g. the prompts at every turn to give access to everything which I deny - but that's Google for yah.. I disable all un-needed Google apps and limit their access ruthlessly as possible.
The camera I see is much debated so here's my experience: it is excellent (for a casual user) except in extremely low light; video is OK in very low light e.g. a live band. Yes, it is probably marginally weaker than the top iPhones and Samsungs.
I have installed the Google camera APK out of curiosity from the favourable reports - and can confirm it takes noticeably better pics in low light; with generally better detail and sometime slightly better color saturation; but for some reason it zooms in the video a bit and its video is no better than the Nokia stock app. The Google camera app seems to autofocus and handle the (excellent) flash marginally better; and appears to 'post-process' photos a bit better.
I look forward with interest to the promised upgrade to the Nokia camera app. The (digital) zoom is not great as to be expected - so the Sirocco camera hardware - and light sensitivity specs; and from the few sample pics I've seen - do appear undoubtedly a bit better.
A great feature - invaluable e.g. for video - is the 3 microphone sound recording - it provides superb quality and stereo imaging - especially appreciated when filming e.g. live music. Stereo speakers would have been a nice touch; but the volume and frequency response of the single speaker is excellent.
Battery life is easily 1-2 days with 3-5 or more hours of heavy use.
I chose the tasteful (not cheap) Nokia leather case for maximum protection. Keeping the lid open is a minor inconvenience I've learned to circumvent; and I don't need my phone to be seen - as a fashion accessory - it looks elegant and mysterious in it's svelte case..
I expect in the near future - for however long it will still available new - that the Nokia 8 will be priced extremely competitively with the new models (from Nokia and others) and currently offers arguably unsurpassed value for money, for what I expect to be a long and very happy relationship.
Well done to HMD and their Nokia team in recent years - a great comeback and bright future.
Nokia 8 now is seeding the Google Security patch 2018-3 (75.5 MB) in Macedonia.

Question for veterans in android. First things first. I disabled almost all google crappy apps in my phone. But their is a hidden weather one that i do not find it's interface. Has no widget, app and clock does not show weather. So, does anyone know what fore is this app used? Maps? Google's assistent or what exactly. I reather disable this one too.
Nokia is back!!
I love this phone. I wasn't expecting this kind of quality for the price. It is missing some things I liked from my sony like the dedicated camera button, fingerprint scanner on the power button and being waterproof. But the build quality and sheer processing power of this phone makes up for it.
I think this if for someone that likes a phone to be fast and well built with stock android.

I am getting network issue in sim 1 slot after oreo 8.1.0 the network seem to be slow. Is any one facing this issue?
Mist, 10 Mar 2018Please share the firewall app detailsSearch for NetGuard. It is a good app, does not infringe your privacy...to much. And has almost no impact on battery. But...their is always a but. It might cause some problems with some apps even if they are allowed to acces internet. For that, the only fix is to turn the firewall off while using them. Till now, this problem i have only with one app. Here we go. A HERE maps app. After installing and turning on, if you notice some strange behavior with some apps(CRASHING OR NOT OPENING) this apps might want to force internet acces and netguard does not let them do whatever they want.
