AnonD-59673, 18 Jun 2012I've ordered the 808 online last Friday here in India, just saw an update that they will ship ... morei bought mine on last thursday(mumbai). do check your proximity sensor, breathing light, and "mobile data wifi".

            i.e

proximity sensor- screen should lock while your calling(just call on any number and place your finger on front camera[proximity sensor is placed next to front camera] it should lock the screen)

breathing light- breathing light is a feature in menu >settings>phone>notification lights>breathing lights on or off....(functions wen your fone is locked, a light blinks on menu keys which tells u fone is functioning or fone is not switched off) this can b clearly seen in low light or night

mobile & data wifi - mobile data and wifi is a feature which should(or can) be used separately and independently ,,,,that means ,a user after using gprs data or 3g data wants to "switch off mobile data" and use wifi it should work.
((( i was using 3g and wen i switched mobile data off and started wifi i was not able 2 browse, i had to again switch on mobile data ( but the '3.5g mobile data' sign was not showing it was utilizing wifi). the con is ,wen your browser will initiate a small amount of mobile dat will be used then wifi,, and if you have no gprs or 3g package u will have to pay every time u open browser or any app which requires internet.

anyway i think only me(black 808) and 1 more fellow is facing this problem. my friend's white 808 isnt having any problem whatsoever.

i will get my 808 replacement 2day and now i will have a micro sim with me to check all of the above.

****this is only a checklist(maybe 1 out of n number of 808 will hv this problem) not 4 trolling and bashing

Anonymous, 19 Jun 2012i think the samsung and apple fanboys are now weeping for their cameras.... with the hardware ... morei never understand why androids are installing more and more larger and expensive hardware????? what they want to prove???? what is the use of quad core processor in a phone???? i think they want to show only hardware specifications in the race of android manufacturing companies. they are concentrating on hardware, not on the software.......
if samsung can run window7 very smoothly on a computer with single core processor then why they are using multi core processors in phones???? just only to impress the customers????? or confusing the customers that their phone is super computer and they do not need to buy a laptop???? do you think that a phone can be a substitute of laptop???? u can use a phone on the place of computer for sometime but not for long time. after some time it will irritate u when u feel uncomfortable by typing tiny keyboard of smartphone and tiny words on even 6inch screen cause strain on ur eyes.... then what is the use of ur android super computer with quad core processor????
important thing is practical smoothness of the os not only in terms of hardware specifications. more bigger hardware will consume more power and produces more heat...
in terms of hardware and specifications, nokia surprised us that how a 1400mah battery with single core processor can process 41mp images which an android can not do with 2500mah battery....
in practical world we count best who can do toughest work with little efforts not that who can do same work with much efforts.... this also can be implicated to the phones.......

i think the samsung and apple fanboys are now weeping for their cameras.... with the hardware of the 808, it's not meant to fight muscle to muscle with sgs 3 hardware wise. but when u take into account the comments and feedback from the users, you'll see that four cores are not needed to run smooth, 720p screen is not something u cant live without. quad cores, super screens are just battery-junkers. tell me, isn't one core clocked 1.3 ghz fast enough? cam people tell what's faster than fastest? you see, the benchmarks are the evidence but can you measure up the benchmarks on your own? while usig the phone? the numbers of cores are just gimmicks to impress you, buut truth is u dont really feel the benefits of such cores.

am impressed nokia had given harder competition to all other operating system makers and the hardware makers...i just suggest nokia officials that to improve the apps and the RAM memory so as to run the big applications ...and there should'nt be any negative comments from the customers that they are not having the app thats present in IOS or ANDROID....this is what i feel for you nokia...

808 and olympus they cost about the same, and with olympus you get more - changeable lens, tripod mount, maybe better photos in poor light, and much more

I've ordered the 808 online last Friday here in India, just saw an update that they will ship it to me tomorrow. Eagerly awaiting arrival.

Nokia is a huge 'trusted' brand in India. To many, the name is synonymous with Mobile phones itself. It sells millions of phones and has managed to sell phones to the budget conscious by the millions - each phone being rugged, long lasting and each an ambassador for the brand....and each continuing to build the brand phone by phone. To me, the comments like the brand will disappear, etc. hold no meaning. I believe they will still continue to be profitable and sell, and having invested in the lower end, will carry many of the loyalists when they migrate to more higher end ones.

Frankly I don't see how long this Android initiated run on hardware is going to last. We have of course seen tremendous improvements over the last 2 years. But judging by many comments, even from the knowledgeable ones like the AMD CEO, generally hardware has reached a point where even mid range hardware meets all stated software requirements...and one does not really need massive oodles of improvements every year anymore on the hardware. And this coupled with the massive lawsuits on the Android makers will undermine its very foundation. Budget Android tablets and phones are already sporting 1 GHz+ processor specs and selling for less than equivalent of USD 100 in India (unlocked version). Competition is very tough, and has become a commodity market...one that I see many top players leaving soon because of tight or even lack of margins. I think Nokia has done the right thing staying away from Android.

I do not envy Mr. Elop's job and think he has grappled with the bad situation handed over to him and must be doing tremendous work to take Nokia forwards. However considering that there was ongoing significant (R&D) work like the Pureview on Symbian, beats me why he chose to publicly renounce Symbian. Could he have not just chosen to make Windows his preferred platform, but also take Symbian along? Eagerly awaiting his sound bytes to understand what he feels about he platform now, especially seeing the reception the Pureview has got. I too am kind of a Nokia fanboy like many of the others who have commented on this forum for this article...and my heart bleeds when I know that this great camera has made me to knowingly make the mistake of buying a phone on a dying platform - one that the parents themselves have said will be put to death shortly. Can we the supporting public take the onus to not allow this to die? Or do we just stand by grieving while the parents mercilessly hack it to a untimely death.
Oh, Mr. Elop, woe are you!
