Anonymous, 02 Apr 2012why put in 41 megapixel sensor then only produce 38 megapixel image. what's wrong with 41 mega... morewhy only 38MP and not 41MP? if you were to take a photo with the full sensor the photo's would be circular. so they crop the image 4:3 or 16:9.

If Samsung think they can beat Nokia, they should do this with their own dumb Bada OS, like Nokia does with their own Symbian, Maemo and Meego OS.

[deleted post]lol, it is definately an 41mp sensor!! You should better read, than you would also know what oversampling means -> this is when you e.g. shoot an 5mp image (in the pureview mode) the 808 pureview is nevertheless taking a full resolution(!!) picture to take take the best pixel around of 7 (so you have there your 5mp shoot without noise)...

Look here why it's a 41mp sensor (and shoots pictures with 34mp in 16:9mode and 38mp in 4:3mode): http://blog.gsmarena.com/the-amazing-science-behind-the-nokia-808s-mammoth-camera-sensor-explained/

I guess u dont really see the POINTS. I own both galaxy s2 and a note now, and an n8 before. Though i prefer a device that rocks in all around features, its stil something worth keeping a phone that does better in taking pictures as its what im fond of, and that goes to a lot numbers of people, not just me. Thats what nokia myt be thnking, and it is there they plan to invest more, its their business after all... And i dont see the point of comparing it to dslrs since its a smartphone, a cameraphone, not a camera.. I hope you just dont look at the sun, but to the things you can see With it..

For the never-ending question about the nHD resolution because people don't bother searching, here is the primary reason why Nokia chose nHD: App Compatibility.

Most apps for Symbian developed in the past few years are optimized for nHD resolution. Honestly, I tried using an application optimized for lower-resolution on a higher resolution phone, and it got pixelated - a lot.

It is quite understandable to use this resolution to ensure maximum backward compatibility for old applications. Lower resolutions also consume less power. Although the pixel density may not be enough to make sure that individual pixels cannot be distinguished by the naked eye on close-up, I am sure at reading distance it won't be a problem. I used phones at that pixel density at reading distance, and I wasn't bothered at all. I pay a lot of attention to detail, but I didn't usually see individual pixels clearly unless I was really looking at them. And I doubt anyone would be looking for individual pixels every time they use their device.

Also, ... more@ObjectivePhoneUser....Before you tell someone to shut up and say something jiberish about battery life, let me ask you a question. Did battery life stop smartphones from having faster processors, more cores, higher resolution displays...? I dont think so. This phone will be also used for inernet, videos... Plus, at this display size and resolution diagonal jaggies are noticeable. So for upcoming price of this phone and its great camera nokia could do better with display.

One reason I remember that the lense is round so the total 41 MP is for the circular area. You're taking pic in rectangular form so some area will be ditched to make it rectangular and that's why it is 38MP.
