This phone is taking to long to arrive in SA. Is there any cellular shops in Heathrow airport that might have 8800's to sell cash outright. I'm going through Heathrow 1st week in August. I cannot wait any longer for this phone. Its amazing. I want it.... NOW!!
i've been with o2 online for a while, but had to switch to vodafone. didn't even know o2 online were doing the handset (it's not on their website even as coming soon). also, vodafone have stop the clock, 6 months half price line rental, cheaper handsets and just generally better deals for new customers.
i did place the order with vodafone on the 8th (although it wasn't in stock then) and expected it in no more than a week's time. received it on the 22nd, but it was sent friday - basically a 2 week delay, because at first it was meant to be out on the 6th.
as someone said (although slightly exaggerated) below, the networks will send say up to a thousand handsets back to nokia to get sorted out, but because of this massive sending back, nokia are only able to send out a small amount of handsets each time.
To everyone waiting for O2 to give them their 8800, I phoned up about 10 time and as everyone has experienced got different excuses every time. I decided I was going to switch to vodaphone and still couldn’t get the phone. I resigned myself to waiting until O2 decided to get their act together. Then as I walked past my local O2 store on Saturday I though I would ask just in case......."we have 3 of them, want one?" I didn’t believe the guy until he showed me! The phone is better than I could imagine, but be warned the battery life is a lot shorter than I expected about 16 hours with normal usage! No wonder there is 2 batteries. It makes my old phone the Razor V3 look cheap and plastic!! Good luck getting your hands on one!!
Are you with o2 online then mike? So many people seem to be receiving the phones when they keep telling me they havent had any in stock.
i received my 8800 this morning, and it wasn't quite what i expected.
it was about a million times better. all of those pictures on the internet don't do it enough justice, nor even do various review videos. just looking at it and holding it, you can tell that it's a fantastic piece of design and engineering; it's beautiful.
a reincarnation of the groundbraking designs nokia dominated the market with pre-2001.

I have been at o2 throats to get my phone & have had it a week.
I was on the first ever order but they advised that they didn't dispatch it properly.
I threatened to take them to the OfCom(who used to be OFTEL) they not only gave me the phone for free but 3mths insurance, double minutes, double text & waived 3mths line rental.
You have to be rude to them as they are not truthful to their customers(been with them since 96)by conflicting information.
The 8800 is a brilliant phone & will be a classic. It's got enough features for a goodlooking Model.
The battery doesn't last long but so what it's the 8800 & I didn't pay for it.
The 8800 is a brilliant phone. I used one during a Nokia expo here in JHB. I cannot wait for this phone. We having major stock issues. Apparently the phone is in heavy allocation and the production line is not good enough for demand.
This phone is definitely not for me. It's expensive, and I am after the features more than style (since we change phones a lot nowadays) It does catch an eye when youre out with it, but for the same money, I'll buy something else.
i doubt there was a backorder of 10,000. when i was on the phone to vodafone every single day last week, they were telling me that 19 phones had been back ordered. this has probably gone up, but 10,000!? that has to be wrong.
If anyone is waiting for this on o2 Ive heard they are not going to get them back in stock until August 6th, apparantly there was only 250 that came in and there is a backorder of 10,000. Nokia have a lot to answer for, and o2 are not taking anymore orders until those ones are clear
i have been waiting for the phone for two weeks now, every time i call o2 they give me non sense and its always a different excuse, has anyone else had this problem with o2 to get the 8800? if yes what did you do to get it quickly? they havent offered me any compensation of any sort for waiting and for saying that its been ordered and the next time saying they have no record of me ordering, i now have to wait another 2 weeks to get it according to what they say, any help??? thanks
Its been a few good weeks now and i havent moved from the 2nd step of my stairs, watching the letterbox. Apart from when i got up to use the phone to ring o2 and ask for compensation for the hemroids ive caught from sitting on my ass for so long waiting for my 8800.
To be honest i appreciated the truth, because instead of telling me that they should have to phone in within a few days like they usually do, they told me that they werent sure when they would get them. And they gave me 1 months free line rental. Good customer service but if i dont receive it soon im gona have a nervous breakdown
Hi There, a really exceptionally classy phone!! The battery life is a bit disapointing but you can get round this by charging the second battery you are supplied each night. I have managed this by charging the phone in the car!! Bluetooth isn't the best as well, before i upgraded to this phone I had a nokia 7610. This phone's bluetooth isn't the best, as I cannot seem to adjust the volume once the phone is connected to my bluetooth car kit, but Nokia UK are going to fic this problem. But amazingly my service provider sent me a new nokia 8800 but on the condition that I returned the old one, but I've managed to get another phone from them, which will be going straight onto ebay!!! I only paid £70 for this phone on an upgrade from O2
I do a lot of sms messaging during the day , so I wonder how good this phone is for writing messages.. I read about small buttons which are not to convinient. And one question about battery...how long does it lasts , some report 1 day , some say 3 days and I've read in one review , half of day..(with some normal use ...20 SMS messages , 15 minutes of calling)
thanx in advance
i held that in my hands today!!!
i'm still flabbergasted, no comment!
the mobile is the best ever i've seen!
We all drive Ferrari only, we save the Ford Escort GTI for London !!!
As you said, the 8800 is ONLY like "a Ford Escort GTI" !
Wall Street Group
(Wall Street Group) Personally i think you have no clue in the cellphone industries, because you lots are arguing against something that don't make any sence about! How can you compare Vertu to the 8800???? is like comparing a Ford Escort GTI against Fort GT??? even though they are from same company but they are targeting to a totally different group OK. Nokia 8800 is a great phone for those who like it for it share design, but not for it feather.
I have one of these in the UK and it is a nice phone BUT when it vibrates it makes a really terrible sound like something is loose. I have checked it but seems to be internal or perhaps the case. So, I had to turn off the vibrate facility which I do need. Otherwise, looks great and is ok to use. Not for txt monkeys, tech heads etc. Just a stylish phone for calls.
why are you people writing about motorola fones, they are the crapest fones ever. they go faulty and have the crappest menu system. i got ma 8800 and i luv it, motorola r one of the worst fone companies i have no idea why people buy them. nokia samsung and sonyericsson rule
