'Nokia Fans (not any)'.... I disagree. I've been reading a few reviews on this phone... and the more I read about it, the more I appreciate it. Now I agree it's not everyone's cup-of-tea, and fortunately (or unfortunately) it isn't your's... but then again most of the world and especially asia has a strong appreciation for Nokia phones... they really appreciate its quality and style, and they should know because they are really into cell phones and far ahead of the game than America....
Nokia phones have NO inspiration at all !!!
Motorola came up with excellent designs lately (V3, V6, V8, V3x etc.) No one can argue about that.
Talking about material, 8800 ONLY made from steel (which is very heavy) but the V3 is made from expensive & high end material like aluminum (exterior) & magnesium (interior) !!!
I suppose some people should have more information & knowledge about hand phones before they post their rubbish comment !!!
If you are contemplating purchasing this phone you would be buying it for 2 reasons:
1) Aesthetic Appeal and Individuality (the look)
2) or...You dont need a phone with excessive amounts of features - Many of which you wouldnt use anyway...
Basically ladies and gentlemen this phone is for the fashion/style conscious.
You dont need anymore information.
although some nokia phones have little inspiration, i have to strongly disagree with you.
obviously aesthetics are a matter of personal taste, but nokia phones look a lot more elegant. i guess you could say that motorola have more innovative concepts in terms of design (such as the swivel v80 and the thin v3), but they don't look too special. the v80 is plastic, chunky and nothing like the v70 (which was admittantly a design gem). but all these flip phones which they're currently making look cheap. barely any motorola phones could touch the designs of nokias, such as the 7110, 3650, 7650, 88/89xx, 7280 etc
Motorola "FASHION" phones have the best styling ..... Nokia designer can certainly learn something from Moto designer!
ironically, it seems that NOT packing your handset with the latest features and technology helps it retain its value over both short and long periods of time. if a phone is released, advertised or even made to be a feature packed phone, its features will be second rate compared to other handsets around 6-12 months after its release. thus losing it's status of being a phone to offer new technology and lots of features, it is left with no major selling point.
can you see sony ericsson, motorola, or anyone even, releasing a phone with a similar build to the 8800? we've seen the v3, but construction quality didn't necessarily come with design quality in that one. the billboard and magazine adverts i've seen for the 8800 are so simple, just showing the phone with low level lighting and "nokia 8800" in small writing in the corner. i won't go on but i just think that this phone's a winner, simply because there won't be any competition on the same level. and if there is, it would come from nokia themselves.
bluetooth doesnt go well esp with other brands. unlike other nokie phones that is compatible with other brands such as sony ericsson, motorola, etc. just got it 2 days ago. a really classy phone BUT it should have been better if bluetooth works well.
I don't think ppl understand the whole idea for the phone being introduced, this phone is design for one purpose, it to have a decent, classy and fashionable phone in hand, not to play about with! Nokia could have upgraded with better software, could off inputted better camera and have better games, but NO they dont want to, because then it will be like others phone in the market, this phone is to dial and recieve call only in a classy fashionable way only. (Phone these days is competing very fast, like having more MegaP, higher memory, MP3 and etc) but this phone is not competing them, is what you called a Mobile Phone with class. this my opinion, thanks. (Ppl who think Vertu is better, ofcos it better for God sake, it using Gold or Platinum casing which cost affortune, but you lots got to understand for the share price of this 8800 is a better phone in the market today).
Quote :- "besides the design, the 8800 does not offer anything more then a regular mid-range phone".
First and Foremost its a great looking phone. But I think we were all waiting for more than 3 hours talktime and 1 battery and not two...
Must be alot of hassle charging this phone.
Secondly, the Vertu is a designer phone..dont even think it should be used in comparison with the 8800 of the the V3x.
The 8800 is POW!!! It's the best phone around, and knocks the spots off k750i!!!!
Guyz i wan ur oppinion..u think i should change my 9500 communicator for 8800?I think 8800 its awesome..i love the pop up model..i followed them from 8810/8850/8890/8855/8910/8910i then i change 9210i and i buy 9500 when it first come out..last time i use all the feature from 9500 now only mp3,telephone,sms,mms and camera..can i hav your opinion please..all your oppinion will be appreciated..thanx
Just a point of direction, the Nokia 8800 is a good looking classy phone, with all the feature needed in that phone and more, the whole idea of this phone introduced it's for a better looking and technically a more upgrading phone compared to the others in the market. apart from (Vertus). I was reading though the comments from different people, I don't see the point of arguing, its only a phone at the end of the day. Some like it some don't. by the way i personally don't think that comparing 8800 to vertus is not fair, the better comparison would be the older model like thre 8910i or v3 because they are targeted in the same group, thanks.
Thank you Wall Street Group.
i appreciate your backing in this matter.
(Wall street group) you have no idea what you are on about???? there no coward for un naming anyone, because at the end of the day wouldn't still would know me or another ppl! Like I said before, this site is for personal review not for arguing or insulting any other ppl or countris that low!
Anyway this phone 8800 is target to fashionable and business class, ppl who don't like it can stay away from this phone, On the other hand ppl who like this phone but want to know more about it's advantages. and disadvantage about stay in this website. Ppl who still on about the Vertu or think the know it all can go home and dream on about purchasing this phone about hey no they can afford it that why they are saying bad thing about this phone.
An excellent review of this phone is available at:
We all totally agree with ianfrey(the smart guy).
The coward un-named guy who always argue with ianfrey about this 8800 sound stupid and naive to all of us here in front of the computer.
We are the smart American group, and we all do not need a heavy; "NO" feature phone like this 8800 ... our American Motorola V3 is much better looking & use a much better material (Aircraft grade aluminum instead of cheap steel).
Hey guys, u don't have to argue whether it will be vertu or nokia 8800, as far as for my opinion, it will still depend on your lifestyle status, if you're an executive or someone who prefer a stylish and an executive-look phone, without spending a lot of cash, better buy a nokia 8800. But if you're really just want to spend your bulky cash in your pocket , buy a vertu. Just a cons, someday your phone will also depreciate because of the internal software built in to it, the only valuable thing will left on vertu is the external casing, and it still depends on what kind of steel you buy, if it's a gold or platinum, it is valuable, but if it just a stainless steel, i dont think it will still be useful someday, so just to be practical. beauty and executive look need not be expensive. :) post your comments now on my opinion! :)
common' ple.. vertu belongs to nokia. why are u guys fighting over it? they are from the same co. =/
what the 8800 is to other nokia phones, the vertu is to the 8800. for example, this nokia phone is the only one (as far as i know) to ship with two batteries, a lovely carry case, desk stand etc - your standard 6xxx, 3xxx and even 7xxx phones just come with a plug and instruction book. that's one way in which the 8800 is a slightly more luxury item. also, let's not forget the TWO year service which comes with the 8800.
on the other hand, the vertu's concierge service is something that the 8800 obviously lacks, and it isn't a surprise. ok, the 8800 is a piece of jewellery with its scratch resistant screen and solid stainless steel body, when you compare it with a 6680 or something. but yet again, the vertu is a much greater and more real piece of jewellery than the 8800; with carefully fixed leather set upon either genuine gold maybe, or even platinum (!), of course it stands out from the 8800, or any other phone.
