I can not find the tool in the setting menu just to do that. bu my understanding that option is simply missing in the menu of E 51
This is a wonderful phone, i purchased two of these three months ago and i am really happy with the performance.
In this price, i can say it is better than my HTC touch leaving aside that it lacks screen size and touch screen. Otherwise it is far ahead in all fields.
I recommend this set to all .
Anonymous, 01 Jan 1970You have to load the appropriate firmware. Use a search engine to find the way to do this (e.g. http://nokia.nigelcoldwell.co.uk/firmware.htm). For the product code check places like: http://www.allaboutsymbian.com/forum/showthread.php?t=70003.

I think I understand the problem. My E51 doesn't suffer from this problem, but my eversmart 6670 has this problem since they day I bought that. It's a kind of screen sound, I mean it comes from the screen, when the screen light is on.
I noticed that if the brightness of the display is kept at the highest, the sound disappears. Most probably, the mechanism which regulates the brightness, generates the sound when active.
But I don't think it to be a big issue to feel worried! Despite that faint zzz sound my 6670 is running flawlessly for 3 long years!
And that zzz problem is not very uncommon to nokia devices. Many nokia suffer from this as one may find from the posts in net.
Hope this will help you all!
can anyone tell me tha free wap site so dat i can download mp3 ringtone and games plz tell me. i wil higly thakful

I'm not sure what causes the problem but now that i'm facing it i will check it out.
To ORIGINAL_JAMAICAN and all other E51 users:
How many of you are getting this strange noise?

When you are holding the phone close to your ear in quite enviroment strange background sound is coning from earphone. Somethind like radio diapason sound. I noticed that pretty ocassionaly. that sound comes when the lights are on. On the screen and on the keypad. As soon as lights are gone the saound also fades out. immediatelly. So that sound is connected to the devices lighting system. It dont affects phones normal functioning. i was told in the nokia service that its normal for E series. I was just looking for your comment, cause from your posts its clear that you are very much in the know person in the mobile field. Thanks in forward

What kind of sound is that background sound which appears when the backlight of the screen and keypad is switched on. This sound fades aut immediatelly when the light fades aut. You can hear that background sound in calm enviroment quite clesrly. I noticed that ocassionally. Sorry again for my stupid question but I will very mach apporeciate if you will be kind enough to reply to my question. I am amateur user of E series E 51. Thanks very much Winura and appologes to be naive. Waiting for your kind attention

I'm among the early crowd who bought the nokia E51 and i still have no problems at all.
Battery: i switched on my phone at 6am after a complete charge yesterday. so far i did not switch off my phone for any reason. its been 30 hours and 17 minutes since i switched on the phone. made 8 calls (under 15 minutes), received 5 calls (between 30 - 50 minutes), i have sent 106 messages, received 187 messages, sent 3 MMS, received 2 MMS and still i have 5 bars left out of 7.
why do you want the phone to charge via usb cable? what if you go to a place that you don't have access to a computer and your battery is low, what are you gonna do? and have you noticed that the charger of the E51 is very small and very convenient to carry around in your pocket unlike Samsung and SE chargers?
The OS is not slow. mine worked well even before i updated my firmware. if your processing speed happens to be slow, check whether you have exit all un-used applications in your phone. remember, having un-used applications opened in your phone causes the battery to go down fast and to slow down your processing speed and might cause the phone to restart itself.
Security and contacts issues are caused due to your own stupidity so i don't wish to explain about it further more.
Keypad: you might have a hardware problem.
And you cannot use the loudspeaker and the headset together. you have to exit from the loudspeaker mode in order to use the headset. and mine recognizes the headset under 1 second.
Menu: The menu is customizable. take some time and customize the menu the way you want. no-one here except you has ever complained about the way the menu has been organized. this is just another stupid statement you have made. if you bothered yourself a bit to find out what S60 is about you wouldn't have made such a statement.
the rest of your post is full or rubbish and i don't wish to continue typing explanations wasting my time. actually the last part of your post is really boring.
is this your first symbian phone? because as far as i'm concerned you don't know head or tail about symbian and what its purpose is. PLUS you have not got the idea why nokia introduced the N series and the E series.

Original_Jamaican, 10 Aug 2008WINURA and the gang:
Earlier this morning I updated my E51 to firmware '200' and all sorts ... moreIs your firmware the same as mine? Has it been able for you to turn off the camera when you switch your profile in to silent?
my software update went smooth as silk. i was with the phone during the whole time. but i didn't get the 1st time welcome screen. but the update was successfully done. I wonder why i didn't get it.
And finally i think you might have to re-do your settings. because after my update i had to get my settings done starting from GPRS. Are you using Mail For Exchange by the way?
WINURA and the gang:
Earlier this morning I updated my E51 to firmware '200' and all sorts of pop up messages appeared during the update process saying found new hardware this and that...that never happened when flashing 6300.
The scariest part was when I heard the USB disconnect sound alert before NSU (Nokia Software Updater)reported that the update was complete. NSU told me that the phone disconnected before the update was finished so I should take the battery out and put it back in. That scared the daylights out of me as I have heard many horror stories about update failures and phones not powering on after these failures.
I did as NSU instructed and when I attempted to turn on the phone the sensor light came on, a vibration felt and the power screen blinked. I tried 3 more times and the same thing. I was saying to myself: "my new phone gone down the drain". I was so worried. Then I decided to hold down the power button for a longer period this time and to my surprise it powered up fine.
It was as when I first turned on the phone after purchasing it...it asked me to state my country of residence and greeted me with the welcome screen once again (wondering if Winura didn't get the welcome screen when he updated his to point it out when I asked how I could see the welcome screen again).
I decided to update it again to ensure it was flashed properly as I didn't like the outcome of the first update procedure...and doing so went more smoothly and more quickly. Once again the welcome screen etc. appeared.
I hope my SIP & VOIP apps. work perfectly this time around as there were problems getting them registered previously.
All in all I'm happy again.
