if ever i forgot my lockcode can retrieve it?how?hope u can answer my question thanks in advance...
My friends of GSMArena let us all share our VOIP/SIP numbers/addresses with each other so we can maximise our communication with this lovely phone.
I use Challengermobile (www.challengermobile.com) and my VOIP/SIP number is the same as my GSM number...18763716012.
I truly regret updating my firmware to 400.34.011.
More than one person says the internet is faster will it seems the same to me.
My BIGGEST complaint right now is that the earpiece volume is TOO LOW now.
TOLIS29, JEEWAN and the others do you find this with your E51 as well ?
Previously I could hear my callers quite easily with the earpiece volume set to 2 or 3 out of 10. Now I have to max it to 10 and I still don't hear the callers as loud when it was set to 3. Believe it or not this is the case with my E51.
Earlier this morning I was on the road which was quite noisy and I could hardly hear the caller. This is a shame because I have always boasted how loud the earpiece volume was now it's lower than any other Nokia I ever had. Nokia better fix this right away with a new firmware.
Excellent phone with no problems.
After the Nokia 6310i then came the 6230i and now the E51
My Nokia E51 friends:
At the moment there's ONLY ONE video conferencing software out there and it's free. It supports Wi-Fi, 3G and more connectivity options.
It's really a SIP / VOIP phone which means you are able to make internet calls as well as see who you are speaking to. You can't ask for anything more knowing that it's free to download and free to use.
Get it and let us all hear each other's voice and see each other via video conferencing.
You can use either your phone or PC to download it.
I don't see that icon below my battery so I'm not able to assist you at the moment. I would love to know what that icon looks like.
Could you take a snapshot and send it to me. If that's possible let me know and I will give you my e-mail address.
Good Phone, but it should have had a slightly larger screen & 3.5mm jack plug, apart from that its a fantastic phone.
new firmware 400 is good. internet is fast . mobile working nicely.all the software i have loaded working fine.it is my advise to upgrade to new firmware.thank you nokia for new firmware.
Original_Jamaican, 06 Jul 2009To TOLIS29 and the others: I found a work around in getting Fring to work. After flashing y... moreim my e51 i make the update , the backup restore and then installed the fring. the same things with the previews updates . But every time i update my phone with a new firm i have to install again the applications.thgis is not prob for me
To TOLIS29 and the others:
I found a work around in getting Fring to work. After flashing you have to install it BEFORE restoring the backup...something which wasn't required with previous firmwares.
I got a different version of CPU Monitor which now works...even though I had to go through some hassle to get it to work. After downloading CPU Monitor as a ZIP archive, the E51 said the archive was corrupted. I decided to try Windows XP and XP opened the archive without errors so from there I sent the extracted file to the E51 and it installed fine. Strange stuff.
PICO-DRIVE is the only program which isn't working at the moment. I downloaded another version and still the same thing.
When installing PICO-DRIVE, what happens is that the installtion starts and the progress meter reaches the end of the bar BUT instead of saying INSTALLATION COMPLETED, it says UNABLE TO INSTALL. Hopefully I will find a workaround or another version of PICO-DRIVE which works very soon.
All in all, the new firmware is not so bad afterall but it comes with some quirks. For peace of mind, you should probably stick with your present firmware. For those techies who likes a challenge, go ahead and upgrade.
wish list for nokia e51
- flash for the camera.
- default earphone jack
- dual sim feature
other than that, e51 is an excellent phone. :)
I have had my Nokia E51 only 3 months and have noticed that it heats up when talking on it after about 15 minutes. I'm sure there must be a problem with it. I have been told that others have had the same problem and had to get an ear piece so as the mobile is not to their ear.
DO NOT UPGRADE TO THE NEW FIRMWARE 400.34.011 !!!!!!
I updated July 4th as I said I would...to my demise (sad).
I received a call yesterday and when I pressed the ANSWER key the ringing stopped and the person's name and number froze on the screen as if they were still calling. When I put the phone to my ear I couldn't hear anything, just dead silence and no keys worked after that. I had to pull out the battery.
The same happened once more since this morning July 5th.
I remember this same incident happened when I upgraded to a previous firmware (don't quite remember which one). I think it happened once or twice and never happened again. I hope it will automatically be ironed out with this new firmware 400.34.011 too.
So much for telephony.
Certain programs which worked fine with the previous firmwares simply doesn't work with 400.34.011.
I couldn't believe it when my favourite program wouldn't start up with this new firmware...FRING!
That's a big blow for me and I don't know what I'm going to do now because I can't go back to the previous firmware.
Other programs which doesn't work are CPU Monitor (a program which shows RAM and CPU usage) and PICO-DRIVE (Sega Genesis Emulator). These are my findings at the moment.
As strange as it seems the 3rd party browser called BOLT (boltbrowser.com) seems to take a longer time to load webpages now while another 3rd party browser called SKYFIRE (skyfire.com) seems to load webpages more quickly now.
Before I upgraded I read on a site where a hacking program called HELLX doesn't work anymore. I said to myself that I don't plan on hacking my phone so I would go ahead and upgrade. Biggest mistake I made since owning the E51 which will be one year old July 11.
Once again, avoid 400.34.011 unless you only use your phone to make and receive calls.
400.34.011 has blocked many softwares from working.
In this case DON'T throw away the old for the new.
400.34.011 is the WORST firmware I have experienced since using the E51.
E51 is the best and most compact smartphone that i have ever used..
I have tried many phones and as of now e51 is the best.
My product code shows 220.34.37 in nokia website, how can I update 400 flimware
To ALL of GSMArena opinionists:
All of those who have upgrade to the new firmware revision 400.34.011 please let us know what improvements you have noticed.
Whether an increase in ringing loudness, earpiece volume loudness, better quality photos from the camera, faster navigation etc.
Please let us all know your thoughts on the new firmware.
