mjay, 08 Jul 2010agreed the data maximum is not achievable, but when I connect it to the computer it is normal ... moreNormally your phone will select the highest setting that is available from the network at your specific location with your current Radio and coverage quality. It can also be further controlled from the network to allow the network operator to attach more simultaneous subscribers.
Hope this helps
Well, after reading several opinions I decided to add comment some after testing my wonderful E-72-2. Nokia is by far the Porsche, the Rolls Royce of Cell Phones. Let me tell you my experiences. Battery: Incredible duration even after updating. I also have a Nokia N95 and full charge lasts only a day and without any music listening or other functions apart from speaking. Camera: Yes, I agree with those that say the focus in dark situations is very difficult, almost impossible. But, the pictures, when focused, are really good. Also, video is very very good. Of course is not a Nikon D3S camera, but with 5 mp and Carl Zeiss lens you can expect good pictures. I have had problems with the famous OVI. Difficult to use with my E72. Using bluetooth is erratic, sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't. Nokia call center, although very corteous, have not been able to solve me this. So I returned to my good old PC Suite which works fine. I must tell that I live in a farm about 30 kilometers from Bogotá, on a tall hill. The only internet service I have comes from my cellphone operator. Using my E72 as modem is tops!!! except when I receive a call, usually the internet falls. I enjoy very much the email as a separate funtion, I also like the GSM signal. This, for me, is the first and foremost consideration when buying a GSM phone. It the signal is bad, no matter how many gadgets it has, is no good for me.A cellphone is, after all, a cellphone. I have found out after several tests that the best GSM and 3.5G signal comes from NOKIA after comparing hand to hand with other brands and the same cellphone operator. The worse signal comes from Sony-Ericsson!!! Sad but true!! Video calls are also very very good. Image very sharp. excellent sound. Music reproduction and videos are really good, Picture quality excellent. I have bought this E72 instead of a Blackberry because the E72 has more features and better quality than RIM phones and also, buying Blackberry means I have to stuck to a RIM service of internet something I don't need with Nokia. Just my plain internet service from my operator I get all features of a Blackberry, with lower cost and better performance. Nokia is Nokia, all the others are just cell phones. Greetings from Colombia on our 200th. birthday!!
updated my nokia black nokia e72 2 days ago and i have also noticed my battery is not lasting as long as before.is there anyone else having the same problem? if so what can i do.
I have nokia e72 black.its really nice phone i love it.Its nokia,s father rockkkk e72
And a last thing. Reading pdf files sucks. The preinstalled adobe reader 2.5 le cant rearrange the text to fit the screen size after zooming. So you can read full page with bacteria size fonts, or zoom in and scroll left and right every line. Again wtf its 2010. There must be another pdf reader which is actually useful, a free one (foxit reader) that i found and promised this feature i couldnt install because it was not signed.
Yeah and be careful what u download cuz there are loads of symbian viruses out there.
Anonymous, 15 Jul 2010buy BB9700 dude... camera is crap here even tho its 5mp. songs wit headph is k tho... loudspea... moreYou can set light notification for the email too. As for the screen and the keyboard its a matter of taste. I dont like touch screens, and i really like qwerty keyboards, so choose another model if it doesnt fit you, but its not a disadvantage. The not too big screen has the advantage of better battery life and the tft is more durable, dropping a touch screen phone means mostly buying another phone, e72 will probably survive some drops.
I forgot to mention that since its a symbian, dont forget to reboot daily to prevent strange issues, like voice echo during calling.
And another thing is that if you delete files using your pc in file transfer mode, the media player might stop working properly (it cant refresh the actual file list on the phone), again reboot is the solution :(
I had an issue that i couldnt copy a movie (actually any larger file like 300 mb) to the phone, it gave the message that i need to remove write protection from the memory card no matter how i tried. Then using ovi for transfering (it was converting the video again, though it was converted already :( ) resolved this problem, and since that, copying is working again, but i really dont like to spend time with solving issues like that :(
And im missing to see the exact battery life, how hard is it to show that in phone settings or elsewhere? Why i need to download a separate application for that?
For saying something good multitasking is working great. And audio quality seems a lot better than on my k750, and the default earphone is good too, i always had problems with this type of earphones falling from my ears, but this one is sitting tight.
Also i want to thank gsmarena for delivering this great site and excellent phone reviews, i browsed this site a lot in the last months searching for a phone that will suite my needs, because this site was the best source for phone reviews, details, and comparison.
Im using this phone for one week now, was really looking forward to it, and its a good phone but its not as great as the specifications would suggest.
The ovi suite (for pc connection) is very odschool. I mean like windows 98 oldschool, and for the behaviour, not the looks. Its very prissy, prepare for a lot of program restarts and phone reconnects. Handling the maps will require half of your day, if you dont wanna use all maps and u wanna free up some space on the memory card. With all maps loaded it took 3 gb of the 4 gb available. My country map (hungary) is like 60 mb, voice navigation is 5 mb so i could free up plenty of space. But you cant just delete the maps u dont need, u need to delete all, and download again the ones u need, and it will take ages. Yeah right wtf. But at least the maps are free. For transferring videos and pictures total commander or any file manager is more useful.
The camera would be ok if the autofocus would work properly, but it doesnt. I was looking for an up to date phone in every aspect, but e72 is short on this, its hard to make decent pictures if the light conditions are not perfect, the autofocus just cant do its job and there is no manual focus setting. My sony k750 was a lot better in this, its a big disappointment for me when comparing with the price tag. Prepare for a load of unsharp pictures in your gallery.
The video recording is ok, if the light conditions are ideal, and there is not much moving around, since the phone and the 15 fps cant keep up with that. At least its always at hand for recording, and its ok for watching on the pc also because of the vga size.
For watching movies (even with subtitles), playing songs, browsing the pictures i had no problem, im satisfied. I was afraid of the screen size before buying, but its fine for me, its useful outside too even in sunshine. You need to take some time though converting the videos to mp4 and for the screen size (total video converter is doing a good job on that).
Internet is uhm ... there is a problem with keeping the signal. If the signal is week, as it is for me at work, a lot of times opera mini is not working, i need to go back at the main screen, waiting for finding again the signal, switching back to opera and continue browsing (same with nimbuzz). Way too many times. I had no such problem with the k750 at the same conditions. Except that its fine for me, using gprs connection and opera mini is a good combination. For desktop (multimedia) experience u need wifi connection, for reading the news, or forums gprs is fine too.
Importing contacts from my sim card (previously saved with sony k750) made the contacts appear more times with different phone numbers, if you need to rearrange and retype its a pain in the ass, but only a one time job, and u can do it on the pc too.
The keyboard is good, found it small first, but can get used to it, doing a great job (except that i need to use the alternative buttons a lot if i wanna type in hungarian, cuz some characters dont have their own buttons like é á ű ő etc.
The leather case is not so good, i will need to buy another one, because its hard to take out the phone, easy to push a lot of buttons accidentally while doing so, and its not protecting it while using the phone. A flip top case is a better choice, like the brando leather case. With the same effort they could have put a useful case in the box :(
Holding the phone for long time is not comfortable, because of its width, and handling (like typing) with one hand is not secure there is a chance for dropping.
The touch pad i liked after my k750s joystick its a much better solution, and for browsing, page scrolling u have the direction keys.
The gps is doing its job, even has signal for me indoors, but the maps are nothing great, again its 2010, check out igo for modern solutions in navigation (at least their hungarian maps are great).
Battery life is very good even with heavy using as i do, its lasting for 2 days. Its more than enough for getting you through the day without charging.
Push email is great if u have a data plan, setting up and using was no problem. Thats another very oldschool aspect though to set up the internet usage for every program separate, could be more user friendly, with settings in 1 place, not hidden in different menus. Wouldnt trust my mom for setting it up. So emailing (with gmail) is ok for me, im not a heavy user in that aspect though.
Sorry for the shattered oppinion pieces, i just wrote the issues as they came in my mind, but i think u can get the picture. Nokie e72 is a good phone, well built, i didnt regret buying it, but its far from perfect, and nokia really needs some good programmers, and software designers cuz they will be out of business if they cant keep up. And fix the autofocus dammit!
