SuperNexus, 19 Mar 2013Hello! App I am not sure that WP8 will get 2 years support. It is 18 months(1.5 year) or t... moreHey friends, dont worry about the wp9 or other updates to current wp8 devices.......dont compare wp8 updates to wp7 or 7.8.......wp7.5 devices are not able to run wp8,the main problem is wp7 is based on windows ce kernel it have lot of restrictions and lack of some basic things regarding to hardware.....but wp8 is completly different it is based on latest windows NT kernel with support for 64 cores, large memory address, vary scrn resolution, rich graphics, hardware security.....etc.THINK logically how wp7.5 devices can run wp8...?it is impossible.....thats why microsoft plans to provide wp7.8........plus wp8,win 8,RT runs on same kernal NT(HYBRID),so the ecosystem is created Between all.......ms not like to change these ecosystem to new kernel(impossible),so update like wp9 or blue is available for wp8 devices......ms says "atleast 18 months"not exactly....and now all wp8 lumia runs on dual core, but on different ram 512mb or 1gb,if the update is coming regarding to use of extra memory on ram,it may look different like gingerbread runs on galaxy y and s2...simply say wp8.5 for l920,l820 and wp8.5 lite for l620 but both will able to run wp8 apps.....when launching of lumia 520,CEO mr.Elop says"more execitement will come this year.."this sounds like nokia is going to fill gap btw 6k(inr) to 10k(inr) gap with devices like galaxy y on android....with low hardware and wp8 lite os...believe it or not? wp8 can run on 256mb ram...plus wp uses less resources........

My first windows phone.have had dozens of droids,,,yes I have noticed restrictions in the platform and lack of vital apps, but it really is a breath of fresh air to use..i still like droids, but the platform has become a little boring..plus cheaper droids are not that great.highend ones are good,,but dollar for dollar, the 620 so far is great..

Drdre, 19 Mar 2013Guys i will but this phone but i dont have experience in smartphones....what is the difference... moreAre you heavy games/apps user?
If yes, Android is better choice than Window Phone.

There are 3 types of phone
1.Basic phone(like Nokia 100,Nokia3310)
2.Feature Phone(let say all java based phone consider in this like Sony Ericsson Cedar)
3.Smartphone(Phone which has OS like Android,WP,iOS)

So, Smartphone is next level of feature phone.

And yes specs of this phone are very good and it can play HD games.
Battery is a problem and if you play games then you need charge this phone twice in a day.
You can easily play 1080p(full HD) videos.

vivek91, 19 Mar 2013@TheApprentice and @SuperNexus and other users. I wanted to share somethings.as you might alr... moreI know your concern.
You want to buy a phone for long period.
WP8 is quite different from WP7 as apprentice said.
There will be no problem regarding apps compatibility with WP8 in near future.
I think all apps till 2015(atleast) will support your device L720. Because L720 will get update till mid 2014.

So, on app part you should not worry.

and about surface phone apprentice already given the best example of Nexus.
If Microsoft do that then it will not be good for their OS. Competition is very tough in smartphone OS and they are not foolish to do mistake like this. Alone Surface phone is not enough for Window Phone. If that was the case then the company like Nokia never go with Window Phone in a first place.
Microsoft is a software company not a hardware company. So, don't worry about Surface phone.

and Keep digging more, until you satisfied and we are also happy if get some new info.

Even google has their Nexus Line Up, does that mean google doesn't pay attention to other manufacturers?

@TheApprentice and @SuperNexus and other users.
I wanted to share somethings.as you might already know that I am willing to buy a lumia 720 so I started searching information on windows phone.as I was searching I came to know about the Microsoft statement as I mentioned earlier. and I was shocked to hear it but that's alright as android phones also don't have updates or have updates for duration a period of 6 months gap. the point to mention is that most of the android apps work on all android phones no matter what the version of the apps it was developed or the version of android the phone is running.that's alright I don't care of the updates but I do care about the apps(to let u know that i'm not a gamer that loves gaming but do love social network apps as u may also).so I did research on apps and I reached a nokia America site.i am talking about 19 march 2013.i saw that most of the application works with windows 7, 7.5 ,8.to remove the confusion whenever you click on a particular app it gives you the details about the app and which is where I found "works with" section as mentioned above which tells you the compatible windows os version on which the app can work.to tell you there are some new apps that do not support windows 7, 7.5. this might also become the case with windows os 8 version where in near future you would have app but not compatible with the windows os 8.so I'm afraid. to give u more bad news Microsoft is launching it's phones called surface phones with same windows os.so it means microsoft will concentrate more on their phone than other company phones.
that's why I require your opinion on lumia phones app compatibility. I do have grand and xperia l options but I want lumia because it stands out and it's new.my requirements are only social networking.thanks for reading.

Atleast we are sure that L620 will get update and also have an idea when L620 get update(I mean L620 will get as soon as it release unlike Android[except Nexus Series]).

Totally agree with you on last line. I also want to experience different OS.
I'll defiantly buy Sailfish Jolla phone but not sure about Web OS because Web OS is not practical in India because hi-speed internet is still very costly. But Who knows what happen in future.

So its a complete maze of obstacles

On the other hand WP's UI is going to be same at least for next 2-3 major releases. So updates will be faster come as it will only include the testing part.

Yes, I am also not putting my entire money on the unofficial info, but the fact that 620 will get at least security updates for 2 years is enough for me.

Anyways will be changing after that, who knows after 2 years I might buy a Sailfish or a firefox device.

But again its not Android fault its manufacturer who is creating this problem.

and I hope we'll get WP9.
But my hopes aren't high because I still have my doubts until Microsoft officially announce that.
May be only high end phone(L920) will get WP9 and phone like L620 will get something like WP8.5.

But still I'll say that we can not predict the future and neither trust unofficial info.

SuperNexus, 19 Mar 2013Hello! App I am not sure that WP8 will get 2 years support. It is 18 months(1.5 year) or t... moreYes, its 18 months, sorry my bad

Again I would like to stress that Wp7 was a complete different story ad WP8 is different.

Apple has shown that even the lower end hardware can be updated to newer versions to a long time (iPhone 3g)

Plus doing it twice will severly hurt MS and Nokia. Updates and rate of update roll out is one of the major weakness of Android. MS would really like to bank in on that. Specially when it comes to lower end droids

I got my info from WPCentral and these guys are really better in understanding MS and WP. While they state that all the WP8 devices will get WP9 treatment. But there is one line we are confused about. That is this
"Update availability will also vary by country, region, and hardware capabilities" Notice the hardware capabilities part. Now we are not sure if this was targeted at WP8 customers or WP7. Since WP7's hardware was not even fit to run Skype, but WP8's hardware is fit to run 99% of the apps and games.

The selling point of WP is that its lightweight and resource friendly if MS wants to keep it going then they will have to support our devices just to prove their point.

All in all fingers crossed, hoping for the best.

[deleted post]I think you should wait for Sony Xperia L.(New is better)

Xperia P is old with poor battery backup and L620 is new but still has bad battery backup.

Xperia L battery is very good and it will be updated to Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie.

I don't know on what basis you want to select between Xperia P and L620.
If you want a right answer you should post what are the main features or which function you used most in a smartphone.

Window Phone 8 is good for normal users who want simple user interface phone and only do calling, messaging, browsing but not use too much apps or those who want experience something new.

Its not like Android is bad in that feature but it is little more complicated than Window Phone 8(thats what users say).
But on a plus point you have lots of apps/games and there are many games and apps which are free only on Android but paid in Window Phone & iOS.
