But I want to add something
You said "Its a 3 horse race henceforth. Apple with iOS, Samsung Galaxy with Android and Nokia Lumia with Windows Phone. Rest are going to eat dust with continuing losses."
More horses are soon adding. Like Sony..they are really trying very hard this time and if you see there financial statement it shows improvement and same goes to there marketing strategy. But now Sony is only focusing on high end phone instead of low end and same goes to HTC but I think HTC will take time to back on track. Both HTC and Sony says no to budget phone so, I think they'll tarket only mid and high range phones.
Now LG...well LG is also trying very hard, they also come up with all types phones in MWC, but the problem is that they don't give any addtional value product with there phone(Like Nokia ,exclusive apps, HTC beats audio etc) and they also do not market there technology like other do, Nokia with pureview, Clear Black display etc, Samsung - Super Amoled display, Apple - Retna display .....and many more.
and now Motorola and Google are working together to come up with a x-phone. All who like Android surely consider this phone and we all know how strong Google is. They are also provide value product.
So, I think there are more horses which will carry smartphone market and many new company are also coming in market.
Competition is getting tougher day by day and who will get benefit from this competition....surely us(customer).
come on dude....!u can't even compare galaxy ace with Nokia lumia 620.......just use a galaxy ace in one hand and any lumia device in other u will get my point......

AnonD-41271, 05 Mar 2013Though its a good thing that Nokia is given its 100% to the platform, at the same time I feel ... moreIt was a smartest move by Nokia to focus on a sole platform and ecosystem which is still emerging and has very less competition within itself. Android is very crowded, every tom, dic and harry manufacturer makes Android phone and Samsung's dominance is so huge that they share large chunk of profit in Android ecosystem and more than 40% of volumes as well. Every other reputed manufacturer is in losses. Samsung, as a whole electronics company is very large and produces most of components on a own so they can compete with every other manufacturer on scale and price point. It would have been very difficult for Nokia too to compete against volumes and profit of Samsung and against all other Android OEMs especially Chinese.
The second smart move from Nokia was to focus on its own branding- Lumia than windows phone and differentiate from everyone else. The impact was so hard that HTC which was very early entrant in WP just burnt their hands. With WP8, they tried really hard again but even after being promoted heavily by MS as signature WP devices, HTC's share within WP ecosystem is just below 15%. HTC is burnt in Android already while Samsung had similar strategy in Android to solely focus on one thing as Nokia has with WP. January '13 was 12th consecutive month of loss for HTC. Its hard to believe that this company once dominated Android till early 2011. Sony and others were always small players in smartphone race though I appreciate Sony's focus and try to be offer something unique and relevant in Android.
Another smart move from Nokia was to tie up with third party develops and release exclusive apps and bring whatever new things possible to its Lumia range. Along with that, the unique design language set by Nokia for Lumia series and its accessories helped a lot in brand building. Today, you can recognize Lumia instantly from a crowd of hundreds of similar looking phones. It all paid off and now, no doubt Lumia is much popular brand today than WP itself. Even if Samsung decide to focus on WP in futre, it will be very hard for them to compete against Nokia.
Its a 3 horse race henceforth. Apple with iOS, Samsung Galaxy with Android and Nokia Lumia with Windows Phone. Rest are going to eat dust with continuing losses. Nokia today enjoys 78% market share within WP ecosystem. Even if WP itself is very small, its a fastest growing OS and already set to cross 5% market share in most of markets. Having sole powerful player in such an emerging ecosystem, powering such platform by own location services to get user data (really important for any company especially the one into location business) is nothing short of a big deal for Nokia. In the end, its all about brand building and profits while being relevant in long term!

On the other hand I am also thinking that MS is doing this on purpose so that Nokia gets all the attention and it goes head to head with world smartphone leaders again. MS develops only the core system while Nokia does spotlight work. Nokia still has a large fan base, that jumped on Android or iOS only cause they had no option. Well whatever it is the platform is gaining ground and I am loving it.

Updating its apps and services and constantly bringing something new to the table! Henceforth, it will be pointless to buy non-Nokia Windows Phone.
