I can totally understand your feelings. Imagine you pay your bill with your hard earned money and you don't get what you've expected and deserved. You'll feel cheated. That's the last thing you want on earth. I really wish I could help. Unfortunately, I do not have the expertise of Nokia engineers' nor Microsoft software programmers' knowhow. All I can tell you is my experience with Nokia Lumia 925 running on Windows Phone Amber OS.
I guess earlier adopters of Windows Phones may have experienced difficulties but I believe things may have changed. Apps are not dead, they are designed by the engineers behind it. Therefore, it's natural for them to come up with new and improved versions or updates. These people are like you and me, they need to survive and feed their family too! It would be foolish for them to continue churning out products that no one buys. Just be sure to enable auto update or download the latest version.
As an earlier adopter of Android Phones, I had bad experience like you too. But over the times, most major Android Apps have matured. I believe Nokia Apps work the same way.
And by the way, I thought we are here to share our experience and comments about Nokia Lumia 925 and not Nokia Lumia 520. I would suggest you to go to Nokia Lumia 520 users' posts to share your experience. Hopefully, someone will be able and kind enough to help you.

If you like Lumia 925, that's good. I visited Nokia Shop on November 2013, one of their customer service showed me camera Lumia 925, yes very very good, and seems better than my Galaxy Note II camera. But I don't concern about camera. About WhatsApp, I always face "WhatsApp has detected an issue with your device's Push Notifications system. Please reboot your phone" message, updated and updated was still the same. Some users (in www.wpcentral.com) it was because of the user, because of APN operator. If that problem because of my operator or APN, why did several users I read in WhatsApp review my region was experienced the same too? Why did when I use Galaxy Ace 2, I never experience that problem? I asked about this to WhatsApp, they gave me different answer. If you never face that problem on your WhatsApp, that's very good.
I have used Samsung Galaxy series Android twice. I am not fanatic with Samsung Galaxy, but for high end Android several months ago, when Galaxy S III was wellknown, the Galaxy S III was very good in specification compared HTC One X (HTC One X doesn't has microSD slot).
Back to Windows Phone 8, on Lumia 520 I gave up keep using it, I couldn't read documents available in microSD, I couldn't set ringtones with available ringtones in microSD, I copied ringtones in microSD to phone memory, remove the microSD, those ringtones were pasted not available in Settings ringtones, Skype couldn't receive file transfer and couldn't send a file, I installed UC Browser (updated to v.3.2), it sometimes shows out of memory problem when I open two tabs (first Facebook, seconds Wpcentral.com
I love this Nokia Lumia 925 very much. I wondered what happened to those of you who had bad experience on WhatsApp. I have no problem at all sending or receiving all the media files with WhatsApp on my Nokia Lumia 925. Are you telling the truth or you are just here to bash Nokia or Windows? When I decided to buy this phone, my wife strongly disagreed with me. Don't be mistaken, my wife has a Samsung S III & Samsung Tab 7, I have a Samsung Note II & Note 10.1, all using the latest Android OS. Why all the Samsungs? you may ask. Well, one of my close friends is the Samsung Divisional Branch Manager in the city I live in, so naturally over the past few years I bought many Samsung products with the influence of my dear friend and with special arrangement, I got good discounts on Samsung products. The reason for me to get a Nokia is simple, I like the quality and innovative design of Nokia, simply outstanding. And for the Windows OS, I like it's simplicity, fluid performance and best of all security. Not like Android OS, you don't need any anti-virus apps to guard your device. Credit to Windows on apps security measures. As for the limited number of apps, just read this http://www.themalaysianinsider.com/technology/article/windows-phone-the-apps-are-catching-up. The only downside of my almost perfect Nokia Lumia 925 is I don't have a close friend working in Nokia. If you know what I mean.
For those of you who still cannot decide what phone to buy, please don't just listen to anyone including me. Go and find a reputable local cellphone dealer and experience it yourself, you might be in for a surprise. Just a word of advise, sometimes attractive product specifications and ads do not necessary translate into pleasing usage experience. Only you can decide for yourself what product best suits you, not your wife, not your friend and certainly not anyone on the internet.

I write detail comments the lack of Windows Phone 8 because I had used Lumia 520. What I mentioned below is I used Lumia 520 till I upgraded to GDR3 firmware, I didn’t mention for Windows Phone 8.1.
I had read before on my previous Lumia 520, when I saw on Settings, ringtones, touch add ringtones suggestion, it said to use PC. If you use Android old Gingerbread, no suggestion to use PC just for add ringtones, so Android is easier to add ringtones than Windows Phone 8.

Anonymous, 20 Nov 2013You are mad.windows 8 os is 1000000000000000000000000000 better than boaring androidI am not mad. Windows Phone 8 is better in no lag, fast perfomance and secure. If you said more than 1000 times better than Android, now my questions:
1. Why when I used Lumia 520 can't read documents available in SD card?
2. Why I couldn't attach more than 1 document file via emamil?
3. Why does I couldn't extract .zip files?
4. Why does Internet Explorer can't upload and download for universal file like UC Browser?
5. Why I couldn't set ringtones available on microSD or phone memory?
6. Why Lumia devices don't have native video call (via operators)?
7. Why doesn't Skype Windows Phone has file transfer?
All I mentioned above can be done with Android smartphone. For ringtones, Android can recognise available ringtones in SD card and phone memory (don't need to download ringtones maker). I used Lumia 520 previosly, had experienced 18 times restart by itself inserted microSD (no written class) in GDR1, updated to GDR 2 Lumia Amber on Sep 9, 2013 still restarted without reason, updated again to GDR3 Preview for Developers, restarted again once. Some users experienced the same too. While I used Xperia mini and Galaxy Ace 2 (before used Lumia 520), inserted the same microSD, both Android phones didn't restart by itself. How could I agree Windows Phone 8 1000 times better than Android if I experienced like the above?
