I have owned my N78 for 1 week now. So far, I have the following feedback for other owners and those who are planning to get one.

In terms of phone performance and other high tech contents, the N78 is very good and very competitive. This phone is for those who want good performance, good looks, and savvy.

For music, it can play any format. The earphones are superb for listening to your files. On the other hand, the phone's speakers cannot be compared with your home system. But all in all, this is a very good music phone.

Picture quality may not be at par with the 5MP cameras, but quality and resolution is good enough. That is why you have your digicam right?

The WiFi is superb. It works very fast and you'll find yourself hooked once you start posting your pics on the website of Ovi or any other activated ones.

Overall build qulity is good. I find the key pad easy to use and the Navi wheel to be smart in terms of accessing your files. For the back cover complaints, kindly check the phone first before buying. Mine did not have this problem. As a not also, the back cover acts an antenna if you notice the contact points.

To sum it up, the Nokia N78 is a very good and cool phone. It takes time getting used to when it comes to the features, but it's worth the time. When I got it last week, I chose it over the N79 because of the cool appearance: illumination blacks out and this is the only phone that offers that form factor. Most importantly, I chose this one because of the connectivity. Also the memory is superb as it has a 2GB memory card included. But in terms of features, it is at par with the other higher priced phones. This should be on top of your list.

yeah mate there are deffo more + points than - ones.
I used the fm transmitter today for 3-4 hours in the car and it really is first class with a good strong signal.

My back cover is terrible though and i'm working on a solution to it myself for my own piece of mind because it is driving me crackers!

Dr Adedoyin, 16 Oct 2008I think in a roundabout way you have come to what am trying to say. Some networks won't allow ... morethe 'no gateway reply' problem is different with payment WiFi network

when you are on the hotspot which cost you to connect (payment WiFi)
Im sure you'll still get the signal & be shown the home layout of the WiFi server
then you have to enter the password you've bought before

but when it says 'no gateway reply'
I make sure that there is a mistake on the WiFi server
its not about your phone
dont be worry..

Nokia n78 or Nokia 6600 slide... i like both th... moreThe Nokia 6600 is an attractive well built feature which provides the ability to make calls, text, take photos, and listen to music. However, the N78 takes things to a whole new level integrating with the mobile web and incorporating more advanced software and hardware. The N78 is clearly the more advanced device to recommend. If all you want is a basic solid phone then just get a Nokia 6300 and save money. However, if you want advanced technology the N78 is highly recommended.

This is an amazing device which is a marvel at integrating different technologies to provide advancedc mobile computing. For anyone who purchases mobile devices on the basis of technological excellence as opposed to following a fad (such as a bizarre willingness to pay a 40% or so premium on a mobile purely because it is touchscreen although the 5800 XPress will change that) the N78 represents stunning value.

noidea, 15 Oct 2008Thats mean the server didnt allow you to enter the network try another WiFi network to connectI think in a roundabout way you have come to what am trying to say. Some networks won't allow you unless your are a paying subscriber. In this case you need their configuration after subscribing. On my side of the world thats all i get and only one wi fi network. Maybe kim is in same situation as myself. In two weeks time, i'll be travelling out. Will see the difference in other areas.
Thanks noidea.

Here's my +'s and -'s of the N78 after nearly 2 weeks of ownership. Bearing in mind i've also at some point owned the n95, n95 8gb, n70, n73 and n85.

PLUS
screen is superb
music player is as good as i've had in a phone
radio reception is first class rds is a massive +
fm transmitter works very well
the whole phone looks really smart
loads of themes and games available for customizing
can take 8gb card which works very well
3.5mm earphone socket
battery life is really good
gimmicky navi wheel works rather well

MINUS
Build quality is ZERO my back cover moves not only up and down but from side to side and in and out SHOCKING!!!!
keypad is fine but it creaks and groans like an oak tree in a hurricane
camera is not the best imo not as good as the n73
operating system is very slow in comparision to other Nseries phones i have owned it badly needs a firmware upgrade to speed it up

This could have been a massive phone for Nokia but is let down by shoddy build quality!!!! NOKIA WHAT ARE YOU PLAYING AT! there is no need for bad quality for such a high price.

for a few more weeks to see how it goes and see if the creaks and groans dissapear and i'll find a solution myself for the unforgiveably loose backplate. If it doesn't it's going to ebay and i'll get something else.
