Anonymous, 12 Aug 2008N78 is the best mid-range all-in-one multimedia device. N81 is not an all-in-one device but on... moreDo you realise that all you have mentioned is in the N81.
The N81 has 96mb RAM with On Demand Paging. It has the great Web browser with FL3.0 and WRT, it has most of the new FP2 improvements, N78 Gallery will probably be released via 3rd party software, so will the customizable Stand By with the current hacking. The N81 is not just for music and gaming. You kee repeating that same id1otic statement. The N81 is VERY well suited for web browsing, video recording, watching movies, YouTube, Blogging, Multitasking, Downloading etc. . . Its just as much a Entertainment device as a N78. HSDPA is not that fast actualy and as more and more people use it its 3.6mbps speed will slow down. Most people use Wi-Fi now anyway. Downloading a 70mb file via 3G doesn't take that long, you are just over hyping HSDPA. I have another two phone with HSDPA and im able to say its not all that its made out to be once its widely available.
About GPS. The fact remains that GPS in a phone is nowhere near as good as a stand alone, my car has its own built-in GPS which worked far better than a mates N82, dad's TyTN-II and another mates N78. Most people i know dont even use the GPS in their phone, and since when was a GPS part of entertainment? If you get bored of a N81 then you will surely get bored of a N78. In terms of enterntainment they are parallel, the N78 only has a slight edge with the camera but then again the N81 has the full and proper Ngage experience: "different strokes for different folks"
The N78 is certainly NOT, ill say it again NOT the best Music phone, the N81 surpasses it in audio quality hands down. Its obvious that both are made for different crowds. What im sick of is id1ots saying that the N78 is better than a N81 when clearly its not that much better.
gosh you guys do not need to argue about phones. they are just phones. if you don't like it then just don't say anything about it because it's only your opinion, and everyone's opinions differ... so what you may dislike is something that anther may like... so um anyways im saving up for this phone... im excited... hahaha um maybe i need atleast 200 more dollars... haha but its okay!!! me, when i really want something , i dont hesitate to make sacrifices.......
Anonymous, 12 Aug 2008wow... nokia conflict.. calm down calm down.... both N78 and N81 suits different people.. so t... moreGood point bro. No need to quarrel. Both are good phones. It depends on what you need.
N81 slider no gps onboard
N78 bar gps onboard fp2 fm transmitter and there is another tread for N81 :>
N78 is the best mid-range all-in-one multimedia device. N81 is not an all-in-one device but only a music and gaming phone! Music and games are just 2 departments that N78 caters. There's a lot more in store!
MUSIC: N78 is the best music phone right now. Who cares about dedicated music keys that gives erronious response like those on N81? N78 can do everything that N81 can do in the music field. Plus, there's FM transmitter, and FM radio receiver with RDS. N78 is the most complete in terms of music. The speakers are greatly positioned to achieve the 3D stereo effect.
CAMERA: N81 is nowhere near N78 in this department. N81 has the most horrible 2MP camera. N78 has one of the best 3.2MP camera that has Carl Zeiss optics plus autofocus and VGA video recording. N78 is even better than N73 and N93 in image quality.
GAMING: NGAGE games are supported by N78. Gaming experience is just the same with N81.
INTERNET: The Nokia Web Browser with Flash Lite 3.0 means the worldwide web and Youtube videos on N78. Internet experience on N78 is just like on the PC. With WIFI and HSDPA, you get broadband connection and large media file downloads is only a matter of seconds. N81 doesn't have HSDPA and will took ages to download an MP3 file if there's no WIFI. Pity!
NAVIGATION: Who needs an external GPS receiver? N78 has a built-in GPS receiver already with A-GPS function in its compact body. Navigation can be done anytime, anywhere!
FP2: Feature Pack 2 is more than just theme animations! There are so many great software improvements in all menus of N78 that even the mighty N95 and N82 lack. This feature alone is enough for anybody to upgrade to N78. For the overview of FP2, go to mobile-review.com.
EXTRAS: Naviwheel that works across all menus and applications means fun and easy way of browsing the phone's features. Landscape mode is a useful feature, with just a push of a button, N78's screen orientation changes to landscape mode without a need for accelerometer.
PERFORMANCE: With the latest OS version, backed up by a large capacity 1200mah battery, N78 is able to last 3 days with moderate use, and even enough to last a whole day with heavy use on various features of the phone, just in time when you get home from a busy day at work. The large 96MB RAM, with demand paging and all the benefits of FP2 means sluggishness, hanging and freezing are not in N78's vocabulary.
After you grow tired of listening to music and playing games, you'll find N81 so boring. While N78 can be both fun and useful at the same time with the combined features: music, gaming, camera, internet, gps, and many more.
wow... nokia conflict.. calm down calm down.... both N78 and N81 suits different people.. so theres no reason to quarrel about this issue...
Anonymous, 12 Aug 2008LMAO!! :-D The N81 can do ALL of that already. Lol N78 has VGA @ 15FPS recording,it looks TER... more"Lol N78 has VGA @ 15FPS recording,it looks TERRIBLE! The QVGA @ 15FPS the N81 does is better!" - loooooooooooool )))))) VGA 15 fps much better than Qvga 15fps (i know,because i have N81,N78).
The N81 can do ALL of that already. Lol N78 has VGA @ 15FPS recording,it looks TERRIBLE! The QVGA @ 15FPS the N81 does is better! GPS? A lot of contracts give you the N81 with a BT GPS Reciever which works MUCH better than the built-in one on N78! Lol the N78 doesn't even have Gaming or Music keys, what a joke! Whats the point of Ngage on a N78 with terrible keys? LMAO! The N81 has Wi-Fi, and 3G so large files arent a problem to download. N81 supports up to 32GB MicroSDHC memory cards just like N78, N81's navi-wheel now works in most Menus like N78 PLUS the N81 has the Menu Effects and Transitions of N78 not just Animation! :-P new PhotoGallery? What id1ot would base the decision to buy a phone because of its gallery lmao! Web browsing with N81 i can even close the slider and use the Gaming keys as scrolling keys whilest web browsing in landscape mode! Can the N78 do that? Oh wait no! It has no gaming keys and its a bar shape, not slider. LOL! Let me not forget the N81 has FAR superior sound quality and well placed loudspeakers. :-) N78 only has the camera, and Kind of GPS over N81. :-P
I prefer HSDPA than WIFI. Wifi depends on the router if it's fast or slow. But HSDPA is always fast. A 6MB MP3 file gets downloaded in less than 15 seconds only. It's like you're just getting the file from the computer using USB connection. N78 extends its features beyond music and gaming! It can be used for camera and navigation as well as internet browsing, a true all-in-one device. Plus the battery lasts more than 3 days when used for texting and organizer functions only. Even if you get heavy on features like camera, web browsing, navigation and other phone functions, it's sure to last a day. Don't buy N81. Buy N78 if you want a complete phone!

All you have is animations! You don't have the new photo gallery, landscape mode and everything! Who will need to buy N81? There's N78 already! N81 is big joke!

anyone got problem with keypads?mine is stuck all the time especially the right selection key and the end key.
guys i need help big time i got this phone like two weeks ago tried to act smart and update the software something wrong happnd and its all EFFD up now all it does is show a blank screen when i press the power button and switch off after 5 secs wat do i doooooooooooooooooooooooooo
The N81 and N82 already have Demand Paging. The N81 has the FP2 Features inlcuding Menu Animation and Transition Effects, the Navi wheel that works in more menus in its new Firmware. LOL 1200mAh battery? Doesn't make much difference from the N81's 1050mAh due to it having the Toshiba hardware to be more power effecient in Multimedia.
VGA video recording? LOL ye at 15fps! It looks terrible the N81 records at QVGA @ 15FPS which looks a lot better rather than being stretched to VGA.
HSDPA, id love to see who uses it everyday at home. Fair enough it has HSDPA ,GPS and the 3.2mp cam over N81. But then again the N81 has the Sound Quality, Music Keys, Gaming Keys, better Ngage support and better speakers than a N78. I think they are both almost on par.
Tsepz, 11 Aug 2008Now thats rubbish. The N81 is a very well built device, no gaps grow, ive had mine for 9months... moreShut up! N78 is a lot better than N81. HSDPA, GPS, FP2, 3.2MP, VGA video, 1200mah battery, slim candybar form! Your N81 doesn't have the half of what N78 has.
the thinker, 10 Aug 2008hello one has seen many posts that in total have ended up in text arguments well what can one ... moreNow thats rubbish. The N81 is a very well built device, no gaps grow, ive had mine for 9months! And to the N78 is a "beast" as a bit to optimistic of you. Let me remind you that all this has over a N81 is the GPS AND 3.2MP camera otherwise MOST if NOT ALL other things are the same. Hardware wise they are identical. And the N95-8gb is far better than a N78. The N95-8gb has great build as well, the slider is very tight and the phone is solid. I understand you love your new N78 but please keep this on the real now.
hello one has seen many posts that in total have ended up in text arguments well what can one say? .I have used many nokia phones over many years and to date the N81 has to be the worst phone for the cash outlay one says this due to the poor phone slide that can close when opened when on a call and the slider is loose and you can see light through this gap be it a small one yet over a short time this gap will indeed grow as you use the phone...the N78 may not look as smart as many phones on the market yet it is a beast inside the covers it was designed to be functional and have the power to comply with the imput requested from it and it may take some time to get use to the new interface layout but thats it it may be akin to using xp then moving to vista for the first time and you will grasp the logical layout but all in all the N78 wins hands down for build quality well over the nokia N95 8 gig model due to the poor quality build of the said N95 and i say this as the one i had sufferd from flexing thin plastic sides when the slider was in the fully open position this was due to cheap outlay when in manufacture and may one day be the undoing of nokia but as i understand it nokia will bring out a full touch screen by 11-08 and it will have tactile interfacement with the user and an 8 megapixle camera if you like that type of thing yet when you think even the manufacturer LG can make a phone that has 120 FPS for recording video you need to wonder if nokia are stringing out people by introducing more and more models that are the same yet with a little more function and in some cases the phones have been WORSE that the one it has replaced due to quality issues as indonesia now make some nokia phones in this is been seen in quality build over the last 4 years so what i want to see now from nokia is a video framerate of 150 FPS a 10 megapixle camera and a better cpu and the symbian system needs to be alterd as many can not sign there own work so maybe a windows version may one day be included (i have windows xp on ones old n95) ..sorry for going on and on..
