In our nick of the woods in eastern coastal Australia, I need a phone with dual UMTS900/UMTS2100 capability, frequencies used by my provider Optus/Virgin in their new roll-out.
I had been looking at both the N82 and N95 before, but neither obliges - so I was resigned to wait for the new Nokia N96 model.
In the meantime "The Updater" on the exceedingly useful Whirlpool forum (www.whirlpool.net.au) has alerted me to the N78 as fulfilling my needs for dual-band UMTS.
So, I'll chase around here in our bush 'bled' (Hicksville to you) to actually get my hands on the N78 and get a feel for it...
Will report back A.S.A.P.
Anonymous, 01 Jan 1970the wholesale rate now is just under $400. so depending on how luxurious the shop is.. the price will increase.. and offcourse there is tax also. so i think anything around 450 dollars is ok considering 50 dollar profit and tax.
about the fm transmitting quality,in a car ,is the sound quality clean?????
No TV out.
I second what Annonymous said below.
I just got the phone and have played with it for 1 hour.
-Light but feels solid (thin as well)
-Back cover is very secure
-Screen is clear even under strong sunlight
-GPS is FAST (within 7 secs for me on first load)
-I got used to the keypad after 5 min. Quite easy to type actually, just not sure I can do it whilst driving...yet... hahaha
-Easy to setup (I was loading Nokia Maps). Must say PC Suite has improved a lot since I first used it 3 years back.
-Finger print magnet (I can live with it though)
Just got mine today, excellent phone so far:
+the screen is amazing
+great looking phone, very minimalist
+sound quality is pretty good
+everything is super fast
+autofocus on camera is almost instant
-naviwheel is pretty useless
The back cover on mine doesn't move at all, it's very secure. The keypad takes about 10 minutes to get used to.
dose this phone has a tv out put because i really want to buy one I like it alot
Anonymous, 15 Jun 2008what happened to the creative design of nokia? I like nokia and know that they are top of the ... moreI agree! i love nokia... anyone that knows specs, loves nokia... but as far as design, i dont think they're the most creative, they keep it simple... too simple sometimes. but unlike most people, when it comes to a phone i think functionality is more important eventho looks still matter. if i were all about flashy, pretty phones i'd get an iPhone.. like all the other poor unaware trendy consumers.
i still do wonder why this phone is more expensive than N82, though.
the N78 will live in the shadow of N82.
But if nokia put a xenon flash on N78, it will going to be a dif'rent story all together.
What stopped me from buying this phone is the keypad. Gsmarena is true, the keypad is simply horrible.
This N78 is good but the keypad are not good at all,the calling and answering key does not function well and i ll prefer N82 instead,i just bought N78 but i ll give it to my Mom and Go for N82.
n78 is the best in n series till now..the design of the phone is good..
Fail to understand why Nokia initially priced the N 78 more expensive than N 82??
Even now at the moment, eventhough the price of N 78 has dropped, it's still so surprising that there is only a very slight price difference between N 78 & N 82..
Advantage of N 78 over N 82 is that N 78 has Stereo Speakers.
Advantage of N 82 over N 78 is that, N 82 has 5 MP cam, whereas N 78 has 3.2 MP Cam.
The buyer is left confussed on what exactly he or she wants.
Anyways, hope you all had a great weekend.
Please don't take it N78, I spend $540 for this phone. It is a new phone from Nokia shop I got, but can use only 4 days, then not work any more, because of Symbian OS, S60 rel. 3.2 OS, make it restart all the time, so I can not call anybody, Now it is in Nokia Servic for a week. SO sadly about this, because I took very long time waiting for this phone... Please think about this before your spend your money on N78...
