Carol, 26 Sep 2013Here are some small things Symbian belle refresh (and other versions to) can do in secret... ... more* Good work my dear friend Carol!
One secret from my side which I've been using since my first Symbian the 6600 in 2006... Of course many may know this! (Mr. Carol, this is not for you, man!)
* I think every symbian user will use ''Xplore'' If not, Symbian phone is not for him!
* How to hide your personal photos or videos that are open to all when Gallery and Videos are opened?
Go to this path (E:\Others\Contacts) Now create a folder in Contacts. Move your personal data to the newly created folder.
* Now apply hidden to all the folders ( Others, Contacts, new folder) in the attributes. Now exit from Xplore. Check Gallery and Videos. Your personal stuff won't be there!
* If you want to view your stuff, open Xplore and go to your folder and enjoy! If your folder is not visible open menu/tools/ configuration and apply tick mark to Show Hidden files. Now you can view your stuff! If there are videos, long press on on the file and select open by system. You can remove the tick mark at the time of exit.
* You can create many folders as per your requirement. You can create folders in folder. But apply Hidden to all the folders.
* If you connect and disconnect any phone or pendrive or cardreader via Otg, check Gallery and Videos once. If they are turned up, connect and disconnect any phone or pendrive or cardreader again.
* Anyone may ask me,'' Why can't we use the 'App Locker'?'' Your brother or sister takes your phone and asks the code to open Gallery or the Videos! You will receive a blow! Ha Ha Ha
* I'm from India. I hope I was clear in explaining this trick. Any doubts, let's be open! By the by,,, I posted this from my Nokia 808 - The Monster Camera Phone

Here are some small things Symbian belle refresh (and other versions to) can do in secret...

Did you know: that in gallery if you press the scroll bar (right bar) you will see the date when the pictures were saved or taken? If you drag the scroll bar down you will get the date of every saved pic.

: That in calendar you can use pinch to zoom? Doing that across the "month view" will make it bigger (full screen).

: That, if you swipe across the album art left or right, in music player, when in "now playing" mode, will change the songs?!

: That you can use a mouse with the usb OTG function? You will also have an small mouse cursor appearing on the screen, the scroll wheal will function to.

: That while in a phone call, you can open the music player and play some music? On the other end of the line, the quality will not be perfect but will be acceptable (use some headphones for more quality).

: That you can silent the phone just by holding the # button pressed for one second, also 0 button will open the internet browser and * button will activate the bluetooth.

If i missed something please add. Am curios of other hidden stuff:).

So i don't think you would have such an hdd, or? :). There are some softwares for voice calling o nokia store, sadly i can't remember the names. I think one is called Vlingo and it's free. As for videocalling, there is no other but fring. It is funny noboy uses it, though was the first app in smartphone history to have videocalling.

It will support only FAT32 file system via USB OTG. I think multiple FAT32 partitions may not be supported.

I have tried wondershare mobiletrans and nokia2android softwares. But no use. Those softwares are only importing only some of the SMS.

Carol, can you also help me in this regard?.

"Device not supported" will be the result. As for Skype, even if magically you could connect a camera on it, it will still not work, skype was not done for Symbian video-calling. Symbian could support it without problems, but the developers of skype find it "to hard" to support Symbian... unfortunately.

N8 had a baptism by fire yesterday when we went to the forest to get some wood for the winter, in-between work sessions I managed to take some 120 photos, slip and fall on my back/phone (phone being in the case on my belt), used some navigation, did some calls and web browsing with 1 remaining signal bar, and there was still some 55-60% of battery left when I got home 11 hours later. Phone is OK, I'm not. :-))) Just a few scratches and sunburn, no big deal.

It's not MY petition but someone else's. I posted a link here but it was removed. Anyway, it's at 1200-something signatures, AAS and MNB reposted it. I don't expect it to change anything but it's nice to see people care, and the top rated comment was by the guy who made my favorite app. :-) It's like a small family.

Good luck with the mix, I think I've loaded all my favorite songs into my phone. More than 200, plus a few albums. Mostly I just use them as a "quick fix" when I'm in a bad mood I just put my headphones on and play 5-6 songs. If I want to listen to a full CD I'll use my stereo or PC, just a habit, but then if I had to travel I'd be using the N8 for longer listening sessions too. Wish I had enough space to put my whole 4000-album collection on it, but then it would take me 400 minutes to find something. :-)

I am not saying the below matter for boasting. But real :

I am using Nokia 5320 expressmusic, Nokia N79, Nokia N8-00, Nokia 1280 and Samsung N7100.

The first 3 being Symbian phones, good interface.

Do you know that you can move your SMS / MMS to customized folders under 'my folders' in the 'messaging' area?. This option is missing in all android phones. So this limitation is preventing me to use Samsung N7100 as my primary phone.

MdN, 23 Sep 2013I don't get that part either. Maybe the virus doesn't let you uninstall some other application... moreI’m taking that “Security alert” as an information update. Have no other choice, especially as they threw in advice to download some Anti virus something (app probably) to protect against attack. No options were provided to treat with any virus. The only option I got was to “View details” which pulled up their web page. So, that’s it.

Oh! I saw an option to uninstall apps on NetQin and tried it on the weather app that came with the N8, which did not work, refused to be uninstalled and which went into the “Extras” file. Well it disappeared. I can’t believe it, so I’ll look more thoroughly to see if it is not still lurking somewhere.

I opted to do a full scan again on the PC and I saw some Nokia stuff being scanned but it may not be stuff on the N8 itself. I’ll think about it some more. I’ve also reconsidered installing any other Security system as that may just cause conflict. Oh! You don’t have to look at anything. I was just saying what I liked which is not necessarily what you or anybody else might like. I did not know something was wrong with who published it ;-D. Couldn’t care less who it was. I like the arrangement, the music, the instruments, the lyrics and the voice. Good enough for me. I like Celine Dion, Sissel, Groban - hm, just too many - and I really could not care less about the publishers. Today, I downloaded some, so in time, I’ll end up with a nice mix - to my taste of course :-), and I don’t want to just listen to the songs alone! I want to look at the N8 screen! Yes! The strings held up :-))) and it was actually quite rollicking. Later in the week I’ll see about new ones. Hope you get through with the petition, but hardly likely, I think.

Maybe the virus doesn't let you uninstall some other applications? Hmmm. That was my first thought anyway, or it's a part of some app. Well, I wouldn't worry too much about it. It's strange how you can't get an option to remove it. Maybe if you tried some other antivirus, but then I think two at once might not be a good idea and you use Netqin for other stuff too. Same for PC, if you have MSE there's no point in getting another one, because whatever you do the antivirus has to check, or lock/unlock files, so imagine if two were trying to do it at once. Of course, if you can completely disable MSE... Generally, I think Avira has the best level of detection but a bit less features. I had AVG and NOD32 before, but stuck with Avira, it's lightweight and efficient (sort of like Symbian)... Or it was, lately it needs way more RAM than it should and they said they're fixing that, and I'm still waiting. Meh. Does MSE let you choose what drives to scan? With Avira I can just right-click on anything to choose to scan it. But I don't think you'll find much on the phone, especially if you're mostly using Opera Mini. It's just not a system where PC viruses would know what to do. :-) OK, I admit I downloaded some cracked software from a weird site and Avira found a virus when I tried to open it. Glad that it was still on my N8!

Ahem, I was almost gonna check that song out but when I saw who published it I decided against it. :-) Last night I discovered Stahlhammer's cover of Falco's Jeanny (not BM but pretty awesome) and got a bit obsessed with it, tonight I'm off to watch Sharknado for a laugh. Couldn't find a N8 friendly version and can't be bothered to convert it so it will have to be PC, but I'll survive. :-) Fishing line??? That's an idea though I'd think it would be too thin. I hope it made it through the day. :-) Hah, OK, your lively strumming destroys the strings faster than tremolo speed-picking. Makes sense actually, if you play faster you can't use too much force.

Just signed some petition for Nokia to unlock the Symbian bootloaders. Probably pointless, but as usual, adding my little bit to changing the world and hoping some of it gives a result in some way, somehow.
