nick, 05 Jan 2011the nokia n8's broadcom GPU can render 32million trianges/second. impressive, faster than any ... moreOk dude, Nokia is a very old company and they still have some all values, for instance they emphasis the "PHONE" in the phrase Smart Phone, where as all others emphasis the "SMART". There is no point that throwing 90 million triangles/Sec and goes shut down when i stuck at a place and want it to make a call. There are compromises made Design Vs Performance, Performance Vs Battery Life, Features Vs Features and so many when designing a phone, and Nokia seems to have the better formula for a product. I don't think it will be a difficult decision for Nokia to add a world leading GPU and CPU on board in their top end smart phone, But they are trying to fight the limitations. They have their reasons for every single decision in N8 design, Why no Lens cover, ARM 11 680 MHz, No Video light, nHD resolution and so many thing. What is the point in trying to beat Galaxy/ Nexus S in graphic performance when already they have beaten a specialized gaming phone and a tablet instead of looking for better battery performance or multimedia performance.
Investing on Smart Zooming (or True zooming what Nokia likely call it) or 3D UI (iron man or minority report style) are better choices than investing on graphic performance (when they have achieved arguably a challenging level). There are so many things going on in Nokia in the smart phone race, and mostly they focus on developing useful and productive technologies rather than time killing or entertainment stuffs, thats why many people still love Nokia.

if u think symbian is coming to a dead end....
a misunderstanding, mostly spread by America-centric sites and blogs. Nokia will continue to develop Symbian and invest in it even more than before - it's just that the development is going to be done directly in Nokia and not by the foundation(symbian).
Here is a good explanation of
what is going on:
nick, 05 Jan 2011i did, and the galaxy + nexus s are the kings!no they are not, I believe the N8 sold much more in the space of time the nexus s has been released. Quite a few Nokia's have sold more then the galaxy s
Whatever, glaxy S become my second and N8 bcomemy first cos it has better camera, video call and more durable. :) battery lasts longer too. :)

problem is, the galaxy s and the nexus s can render a whopping 90million.
and, let's not forget, the n8 is displaying these graphics on a screen with a much poorer resolution

I have got a gsm ( sim free )N8 and what a dissapointment !!! I changed from the Samsung Wave and am going back to it.
Very slow touch screen response.
Very poor battery life
12 meg camerea is fantastic for photo's but worse than a w910 for video in low light.
I used to have the n86 which blows the N8 out of the water on the video front which is suprising as the N8 is supposed to be hd.
The Wave is far better for videos, the only issue i have is the over exposure on photos if left on auto.
Come on Nokia this is supposed to be your flagship handset, and yet again you have let us down !!!
Gitty, 05 Jan 2011Plz any1 tell me, when u bought N8,after putting sim,how much time it takes to receive a msg ... moreHey pal, its good to learn you that you got your replacement (did you?, i hope so). Not all N8 are Ovi Music unlimited edition and it market dependent (mine is not), if you got your new replacement it may be Non Ovi Music edition. It is better to check with NCC (I'm sorry you are gonna have the trouble again). Update me if I'm wrong in your case.

dr himanshu, 05 Jan 2011regardin battery life...
I hvnt testd n8 cos my delievery is due. But one thing i wantd to me... moreMost of the things you mentioned doesn't seems to apply for Li-Ion batteries. Li-Ion Batteries doesn't suffer from memory effect as known for Ni-Cd batteries. Further N8 disconnects the power supply from the charger once the phone is charged, and it will never start charging unless you unplug the charger and replug it again, that means your charger will draw zero current during this period, but I'm not sure about the performance of the stabilizer so in case you got a high voltage or very high fluctuation then I can't say for sure your phone is protected (I hope it is since it cut downs the power circulation). It is not advisable to charge any electronics during lightning, you have a high possibility to get your power circuit damaged.
About the battery consumption ya, data usage consumes a lot of power and very rapidly especially over 3G and will result in heating of your battery. If you want to have a 24 hours data active phone (syncing to email, Social network etc) you can only expect a maximum of 18 hours out of N8 (its the best case provided few data synchronization and mostly idle connection) or universally online active time of any current smart phone is 8-10 hours in practice even worser in evo 4G's case (of course 4G networks should consume less power and provide higher speeds).
