I am a victime of poo... moreI suggest you look at youtube videos of the N8 vs any other smart phone and you will see that there are better options. Please don't take my word for it but actually check youtube. Don't be another Nokia victim.
Also don't get me wrong -its a great 'phone' with good battery if you are just looking for basics and a good camera (although a LED video light would have made it better as I took a video in the night which was just a black screen when played back).
It has a few nice features like FM transmitter and USB OTG, but without those perks this phone would have nothing on the competition.

I hope you remember me from months ago when I was asking... moreActually the multi touch was poor on the internet -it was slow but then caught itself up and then moved accordingly to your last finger action several seconds ago -throwing your page where you dont want it! and it could not zoom in very close and did not reflow the text either, in the gallery you always had to wait a couple secs before the multi touch would work on every picture.
Loud speaker is not as loud as N95 8gb

Well if you do you can confirm that I am (or was) indeed a Nokia fan and excited to be getting a N8.
I eventually got one (from Nokia Direct UK, phone made in Finland) and I was honestly underwhelmed.
If you say anything bad about this phone people say your bashing or even lying! I'm just giving my honest 'opinion'.
You were one of the people who assured me that because of the dedicated GPU on it it didn't need a 1ghz processor and would be on par with the other top end phones speed wise. Well after owning one for 5 days and can say that it actually DOES need a higher processor and more RAM. It was slow on the internet and buggy which we all knew as a new one is due, but I found that when the internet was on and I tried to text at the same time (just two apps open) the words I was typing were appearing on the screen seconds after I had typed them -I was literally 3 words ahead of it. It missed emails when I synced to gmail. Sometimes the multi task manager would should just icons instead of live screen shots like its supposed to. The screen froze on me several times to the point I had to hold the power button for 8 seconds to cut the power.
In answer to your question about the sensivity of the screen as it was my first touch screen it felt good and sensitive. The camera was very good.
This can not stand up to other 'top end' smart phones hence why Nokia class's this mid range.
I am not plugging any other phone I am just so disappointed with this phone that I want everyone to know it. I wasted several months getting excited over this big let down.

If u want, search in youtube for gaming against the iph4. Its almost the same. Its true about iph4 have better perf. in menu and browser. But playing games like nfs shift hd its almost the same.
About the loud speaker i also read it have a powerfull and clear sound. And somewhere you can download a patch for make it louder :)

Hi Bryn & Frankie good to see some common sense comments around here.
Bryn you say you have owned |N8| for a week now. You mention 1 bad point that makes me question it.
The touch screen, how good is this & your perception or experience of using the multi touch. Nokia are merging the S^3/S^4 into one constantly evolving changing system. Nokia asre sure to make multi tocuh work aswell as apple & android some day soon with the updates which will soon be available no doubt.
Also I have one question for you Brynn & Frankie. I am a proud owner of N5800. The stereo loudspeakers are very good. Is the phones music output through it's Mono loudspeaker likely to let us down. Or does it sound as impressive as the N5800?
It's a little bit concerning me as I have ordered the phone from Nokiadirect anyway?

Frankie_76, 26 Oct 2010Its really very funny see the Iphone and Samsung lovers, tell about the goodness of these phon... moregood post and shows others that YOU are buying the fone for YOUR needs and not what society,others,techblogs or statistics show.I dont have a car so dont need gps but its built in these days as normal ,BUT,someone else may be wholly reliant on gps and need their smartfones capabilities tending towards decent gps..
I am not hooked into the gamail google thing so android annoys me and just use generic emails but love my smartfone tending towards powerfull multimedia so hence people banging on about htc devices are no good to me,poor speakers/cam/video/audio..I always use nokia but dont expect everyone else too.
Fed up with rubbish comments like 1ghx proccessor when symbian dont need it and altho symbian will be confusing to a newbie its because over the 7 years symbian inmcludes so much its bound to look complex..
Out of the you box get voice synthesisers,converters,documents readers/adobe reader,dictionary,zip unlocker, and tonnes more right out of the box..Its all got to go somewhere.
Ive secretly had this a week even tho hate touch and its doing bloody good..Yes it needs some setting up but that half the fun..I think simple people should be warned off symbian and put on simpler o/s to suit them.

Can you use the front facing camera, in camera mode so you can use it as a mirror?
This was possible in symbian 3rd devices (like my N85)

as you said, N8 is the best when it comes to upgrading from N95/8GB and 5800/N97.

Its really very funny see the Iphone and Samsung lovers, tell about the goodness of these phones. Ho Cares? Ho ask? Look.. i have a Nokia N95. And I love it so much. I want replace it, for another one, but it mas improve all the specs. (Not the infrared). So i make an "Advanced Search" into this page (gsmarena offcourse). So.. I select only this option:
Display Colors: 16M (Same as N95)
Display Size: 3.0" or more (more than my N95)
Display Tec : OLED more than my N95)
Camera: 8Mpx or more (more than my N95)
Camera Flash: Xenon (Its really important for me)
Video Recorder: 720P (more than my N95)
Secondary Camera: Required (Same as N95)
Mem. Card : Required (Same as N95)
GPS : Required (Same as N95)
WI-FI : Required (Same as N95)
Bluetooth : Required (Same as N95)
Radio : Required (Same as N95)
(Plase.. look.. I dont care about Symbian, Ios, BADA, Android, or anything like that. Check your self)
And there are 2 phones listed.. N8 and a Samsung (not realesed yet). I dont have any doubt about this.. i'm waiting for the N8 !! =D
About the "Video Light".. If your video recorder have good light sensivity, dont need a video Light. Do you see it in modern and expensive camcorders?? only "Night shot" or similar technolgy.. or not?
I take pictures with WAVE, with Milestone, with IPHONE at NIGHT. Or in a Club.. and the quality of that picture ar awful.. But my N95 take every one incredible.. i hope the N8 have the same quality at poor light than my N95.

There’s certainly a lot of pressure on the Nokia N8. People are probably expecting more from it than the very guys who designed it. But the N8 was never meant to compete with the iPhone 4 or the Galaxy S. At least, that’s what Nokia will gladly have you believe. You see, with the Nokia N8 it’s not about who the competition is. Not about the business benefits of a smartphone, not about the available apps. It’s about the best camera in the business.

the loud speaker is on the back of the phone
and you know what happens when it's placed on a flat surface
the sound rechotes off the surface and the sound is projected

guys thr is a very big prblm with n8 the battery is not replaceble if your set hang during internet or other applications then you r not able to do switch of mobile at that time and if it switch off then it not able to switch on this is my personal experience. camera guality is very good applications not open fast like android phones processer is very slow. internet experience is very bad!

( Symbian doesn't need much Ram & Ghz to run. Symbian is lighter compared to Android, therefore you will see N8 & the coming E7 are very fast with slandered Ram & Ghz.
Of-course if it: 512 Ram & 1Ghz,, this will be great but even with the current Ram & Ghz, the N8 is more than enough.
