N8 material is aluminium which is very easy to extrude and produce. If nokia want success, it needs better browser, UI, music quality and player, better apps store, better design. N8 is a lot nicer than older nokias but still not very unique like iphones. i just checked tesco and n8 is onli 328pounds onli where iphone 4 is 500 pounds there. Nokia should aim for lesser body parts as possible. I had battery heat problem with my original iphone with metal back. So, n8 probably has that problem too esp when charging

I don't necessarily disagree with you. Those are certainly the things that iPhone 4 does VERY VERY well. That's why it is so popular.
However I don't think it's as simple as affording. Maybe if you don't need the phone for much anything else than those mentioned, but overall the N8 brings alot more bang for the buck.
See it like a swiss army knife. It does shitloads of things decently/well, but isn't necessarily the best in anything (apart from like camera in N8s case and some personal preference thing - I think the N8 is the prettiest smartphone out there and has the best materials, but thats just my opinion).
That's why I personally got the N8, cos I don't have to be the best in few things, I rather have alot of options and features myself. Then again, if N8 costed as much as iPhone 4 does, I probably wouldn't have bought it and that's not about not having the money, it's about not wanting to use just that much (in Finland 16gb iP4 is like some 700 euros and 32gb over 800 euros) in to a mobile phone.
For me personally, 500€ is by far the most I've ever used on a mobile phone, but I do see it 100% worth it.

Currently if we compare default browsers, the iPhones would probably win (unless you highly value Flash, I do, even if I have it disabled most of the time, but I want the option), but since this isn't important for you, we'll skip this.
What does messaging include? Email? SMS? How about social networks (facebook, twitter, etc?). As for social networks, theres some applications that lets you integrate social networks into the homescreen. Naturally they are small boxes ("widgets") so they are nice for quick checking of updates or a quick updating of your status, I'm not sure if the app itself also includes a bigger facebook "client", most likely such as seen here is included (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gz9Bb-g4ZtM) old video though, so it may be better. Also since the browser does support flash, the probability of using the whole service is very good.
Multimedia, N8 has flawless 720p playback (which is HD), supports divX and it's iterations by default. At the moment thought .sub and .srt (subtitles for divx movies i think) are not supported, most likely will see this in the future.
Music playback through speakers is decent, but the speaker is on the camera bulge which means you cant really listen to music unless you turn the devices touch screen against the table etc. Music playback through headphones naturally depends on headphones too, but the ones in the box give a very beefy Manowar tunes for me ;)
Since you arn't after anything that would obviously scream for either device, I'd rather suggest you going for the N8 for the shitloads of features and cheaper price. Both are good devices, but the iPhone will meet it's limitations alot faster, naturally again depending what all you do with it. I personally think the N8 looks alot better and I like the aluminium alot better than the glass of the iPhone, alot less likely to crack when dropped too, although the glass is hard, but it's no diamond.
One thing I love about the N8 is that the screen is AMOLED. iPhone can't have a clock as it's screensaver cos it's LED backlit. So the screen has to be completely off when idle to avoid sucking the battery dry. It's a very little thing if I read it like that, but for me my cellphone is my only clock in life when I'm not at my computer, so being able to check the time without unlocking the phone is very important for me :)

Thank you :)Coverflow is the name used by Apple (Not by Nokia) for the music gallery browsing effects. Meaning you have like the album covers visible there and then you scroll them sideways and they move all nice and cool.
Search youtube for "coverflow" and I'm sure you find out what it means.

Apple, amongst all other manufacturers, have always been free riding on Nokias research and development.
